Defamiliarization in John Donne’s Poetry

As the representative figure of Metaphysical Poetry, John Donne’s poetry is characterized by unconventional forms, pe culiar images, and abundant conceits. Though John Donne’s poems were ignored in his time, yet they have catered for the taste of modern writers and readers. This paper aims to study John Donne’s poetry in terms of Victor Shklovsky’s theory of defamiliarization, hoping to enrich the discussions of John Donne.     

On Metaphysical Conceit

Integrating aesthetic ingenuity and intellectual innovation into the artistic style of poetry,poets of the seventeenth century brought about Metaphysical conceits to the English literature arena.This study aims to review the origin of Metaphysical poetry,contrast Metaphysical Conceit with Petrarchan Conceit in their ways of comparison,and probe into the influence it exerted over the modern English poetry.     

The Application of Game Teaching Method in Spoken English Teaching in Primary School

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the present situation of game teaching method in primary school,to find out the problems in the application of game teaching method and to forward the corresponding solutions.From the current development of English education,it has become a development trend to add games in teaching,Therefore,the paper advocates that English teach?ers in primary school use game teaching method to stimulate students’interest in learning spoken English.This thesis consists of three parts.Chapter one is an analysis the concept of game teaching method.Chapter two describes and analysis the problems in spoken English teaching in primary school.The final chapter puts forward some principles and measures to help primary school English teachers to improve students’spoken English ability.     

The Symbolism in The Scarlet Letter

The Study of Students-centered English Teaching at Colleges

The lack of communicative efficiency among students is still an important problem in China’s English teaching circle.Learner-centered language teaching and learning approach proposed by Nunan and Breenin 1980 s is the best one to solve the problem. This paper briefly presents the approach and mainly talks about how to apply the approach in the authentic teaching and learning situation. The Function of Colour in Ezra Pound’s Imagist Poetry

A Stylistic Perspective on Translation of Reduplicated Words in Classical Chinese Poetry

Chinese poetry has a very long and remarkable history.It is one of the most important representatives of China’s ancient civilization of 5000 years.Chinese poetry utilizes quite a large number of methods in order to be more melodious and charming.Reduplicated words,as a figure of speech,are one of the most frequently used form among them.Reduplicated words as an active rhetorical device can add more flavor and taste to poems.They have the advantages of expressing the stylistic beauty effectively in form,sound and sense,thus push the article to its topmost aesthetic beauty.This paper,from a stylistic perspective,first discusses and argues the translatability of reduplicated words and then the importance to maintain the style of reduplicated words.After that it tries hard to put forward some favorable ways of dealing with the translation of reduplicated words so that reduplicated words in classical Chinese poetry can be appropriately translated without damage to the original style and flavor.     

Emily Dickinson:An Artist in Imagery

A Cognitive Analysis of Love Metaphors in English and Chinese Songs

In the study of metaphor, as a branch of the general cognitive science, cognitive linguistics has been walking forward at all times. In recent years, attention has gradually been paid on the metaphor study in the Chinese academic circles, and some domestic scholars have carried out research one after another, mainly through some daily expression, poetry, prose or novel to analyze and demonstrate the similarities and differences of love metaphors in Chinese and western culture. The new exploration of the role of metaphor in poetry and the cognitive mechanism was included, and it gained some achievements. The innovation of this paper is that it breaks the confinition to everyday expression, literature, combing with classic and modern songs in English and Chinese, to compare the love metaphor in English and Chinese songs.     

Action Research on Using Self-and Peer-assessment in Teaching of English Writing

The main purpose of this paper is to explore the perception of applying self-and peer-assessment in English writing,through an Action research process.The learning in the programme,the students have learnt translating Chinese into written English for first stage,and have learnt writing in English for second and third stage through self-and peer-assessment.The research result shows that the most students feel that the process of self-and peer-assessment are useful for improving their English writing skill and they feel that self-reflection and peer discussion around their English writing is helpful for promoting the development of self-and peer-assessment.Especially,key findings about four types of students are more important.Overall,based on student’s perception about using self-and peer-assessment,learning written in English is also an ongoing research,it can develop the ability of students’ ability to solve problems independently,and raise their language communicative competence gradually.     

The Voice of Gender in Emily Dickinson’s Poetry
