Despite hopes and claims about benefits of computer-assisted language learning, few studies have documented actual cases about how American students learn elementary Chinese in a computer-equipped classroom. This paper deals with how to use computer as an educational tool to' develop American students' Chinese language skills. The theoretical perspective is Interaction Theory; the three types of which, Negotiation of meaning, obtaining modified input and attending to linguistic form, offer the guidance in Computer-assisted learning. By means of observations, this study tries to answer three questions: (1) What is the best way to make use of computers? (2) How can teachers initiate the students to apply computers? The challenges of writing itself and lack of appropriate teaching methodology demotivate EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners in some Chinese universities to write more, especially as the only incentive for students to write is the compulsory tests. The main objectives of this article are: (1) to discuss the background of the EFL learners in Chinese tertiary education and then to elaborate on their needs and problems for EFL writing; (2) to review the existing approaches to teaching writing; and (3) to propose and justify an integrated model on the basis of these approaches for teaching EFL writing in the Chinese context.  相似文献

This article reviewed the case of indecent dressing among the youth of today especially on the universities campuses, which has forced the authorities of those institutions to enact dress codes to stem the tide and restore high moral standards, integrity and decency. Whether this bid was successful or not was another thing which was a function of many factors namely: (1) absence of procedural and legal structures for enforcement and sanctions; (2) weak moral backgrounds from home; (3) lip-service paid to the issue of dress code by the authorities; (4) negative influence of foreign cultures through the moral pollution of the mass media; and (5) the corrupt nature of the society iner-alia. In the view of the fact that this phenomenon portends serious danger to realizing the sincere goals of training reliable, decent-minded, well mannered workforce and leaders for the future, the study recommended that: (1) all hands be put on deck by all the stake holders within and outside campuses to stem the dangerous tide; (2) well designed structures be laid down for enforcing the rules and penalizing non-compliance; and (3) regular counselling programmes be mounted all over the campuses and in the communities utilizing agencies like the parents, the teachers, the religious bodies and the media most especially.  相似文献

The present study was carried out to compare the obedient/disobedient behavior in secondary + 1 level students. Objectives of the study were: (1) to study and compare the obedience/disobedience in secondary + 1 level students on gender basis; (2) to study and compare the obedient/disobedient behavior in secondary + 1 level students in relation to their stream (arts/science); and (3) to study the interactional effect of gender and stream on the obedient/disobedient behavior in secondary + 1 level school students. ODTS (obedient-disobedient tendency scale) by Mehta and Hasnain was used for the present study. The results reveal that males are disobedient in their behavior, whereas, females show the mixed behavior, i.e., both obedience and disobedience; arts students are disobedient, i.e., both boys and girls in comparison to science stream students; gender and stream have a significant interactional effect on the obedient/disobedient behavior of secondary + 1 level students.  相似文献

This paper presents the development of an Argument-Learning System (ALES). The idea is based on the AIF (argumentation interchange format) ontology using "Walton theory". ALES uses different mining techniques to manage a highly structured arguments repository. This repository was designed, developed and implemented by the authors. The aim is to extend the previous framework proposed by developing an intelligent tutoring environment for argument learning that aims to: (1) guide the students during argument learning; (2) aid in improving the students' argument skills; and (3) offer an argument classifier agent that retrieves the most relevant results to the subject of search. Middle school subjects of 13-2lyears (from 4 nationalities) were used for studying the relationship between progressive cognition and personality characteristics by Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices and Eysenk's Personality Questionnaire. The results showed: (1) the correlation and stepwise regression were completely identical: P score was negatively related to progressive cognition; E score was positively related to progressive cognition. (2) With the personality characteristics and the personal variables as independent variables, the stepwise regression indicated: E score was the most predictors of progressive cognition, and then was nation, culture degree of mother and father, P, age, sex, mathematics and language achievements.  相似文献

The purposes of this study were twofold: (1) to verify whether or not gender and interpersonal relationships influence the variance of psychosomatic symptoms in Taiwanese adolescents; and (2) to examine the moderating role of gender between interpersonal relationships and psychosomatic symptoms in Taiwanese adolescents. The present study adopted data from the Taiwan Education Panel Survey (TEPS) using a stratified-random methodology. Results indicated that: (1) gender accounts for a significant amount of variance of psychosomatic symptoms; (2) interpersonal relationships account for a significant amount of variance in psychosomatic symptoms over and above gender; and (3) gender moderates the associations of mother-adolescent and teacher-student relationships and psychosomatic symptoms, whereas it does not moderate the associations between father-adolescent, sibling, or peer relationships or psychosomatic symptoms.  相似文献

The study was conducted to find out the parents' perception on the De La Salle University-Dasmarifias services which are grouped as follows: (1) Academic instruction factor; (2) Quality of human ware (includes faculty, administration, staff support through medical services, guidance and discipline); (3) Quality of hardware (dorm facilities, transportation, canteens and security services); and (4) Expectations (graduates' job placement). Likewise, this study was conducted to echo out the perception to the university officials for possible improvement and to share these observations with other sister La Salle schools, thus possibly enhancing better educational management based on an actual review from the parents, the "clients" and major stakeholders of the school. POLCA (Parents' Organization of La Salle Cavite), the legitimate parents' organization of DLSU-D (De La Salle University-Dasmarinas), a tertiary university finds the study significant: (1) in being able to verbalize its concerns on the academic instruction factor, quality of human ware, quality of hardware and expectations on graduates' job placement; (2) for university officials' awareness of the parents' perception; and (3) for considering the results of this study as eye openers for improvements and development of their services. Lastly, this study hopes to find answers to the perennial question of why the choice of DLSU-D for their children. The findings reveal that the overall rating of the services of the university to the students is satisfactory. Breaking down the services into 4 groups: academic instruction, quality of human ware, quality of hardware and expectations, that highlight the graduates' employability after graduation, the biggest number of parent respondents agreed on the perception that academic instruction factor ranked first, followed by expectations/graduates' employability after graduation as second, and quality of human ware and quality of hardware as th  相似文献

Objective: This study was to assess the influence of interaction of combination of immobilized nitrogen cycling bacteria (INCB) with aquatic macrophytes on nitrogen removal from the eutrophic waterbody, and to get insight into different mechanisms involved in nitrogen removal. Methods: The aquatic macrophytes used include Eichhornia crassipes (summer-autumn floating macrophyte), Elodea nuttallii (winter-growing submerged macrophyte), and nitrogen cycling bacteria including ammonifying, nitrosating, nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria isolated from Taihu Lake. The immobilization carriers materials were made from hydrophilic monomers 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) and hydrophobic 2-hydroxyethyl methylacrylate (HEMA). Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the roles of macrophytes combined with INCB on nitrogen removal from eutrophic water during different seasons. Results: Eichhornia crassipes and Elodea nuttallii had different potentials in purification of eutrophic water. Floating macrophyte+bacteria (INCB) performed best in improving water quality (during the first experiment) and decreased total nitrogen (TN) by 70.2%, nitrite and ammonium by 92.2% and 50.9%, respectively, during the experimental period, when water transparency increased from 0.5 m to 1.8 m. When INCB was inoculated into the floating macrophyte system, the populations of nitrosating, nitrifying, and denitrifying bacteria increased by 1 to 2 orders of magnitude compared to the un-inoculated treatments, but ammonifying bacteria showed no obvious difference between different treatments. Lower values of chlorophyll a, CODMn, and pH were found in the microbial-plant integrated system, as compared to the control. Highest reduction in N was noted during the treatment with submerged macrophyte+INCB, being 26.1% for TN, 85.2% for nitrite, and 85.2% for ammonium at the end of 2nd experiment. And in the treatment, the populations of ammonifying, nitrosating, nitrifying, and denitrifying bacteria increased by 1 to 3 orders of magnitude, as compared to the un-inoculated treatments. Similar to the first experiment, higher water transparency and lower values of chlorophyll a, CODMn and pH were observed in the plant+ INCB integrated system, as compared to other treatments. These results indicated that plant-microbe interaction showed beneficial effects on N removal from the eutrophic waterbody.  相似文献

Contamination levels and distribution of seven synthetic musks in Suzhou Creek were investigated in this study. Two polycyclic musks, 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8-hexahydro-4, 6, 6, 7, 8, 8-hexamethylcyclopenta(g)-2-benzopyran (HHCB) and 7-acetyl-1, 1, 1, 3, 4, 4, 6-hexamethyl-1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydronaphthalene (AHTN), were found in all samples. The ranges of HHCB and AHTN were from 8 ng/L to 138 ng/L and from 1 ng/L to 25 ng/L in surface waters, and from 2 ng/g to 77 ng/g (dry weight) and from 1 ng/g to 31 ng/g (dry weight) in sediments respectively. The total concentration of HHCB and AHTN showed obvious spatial change in surface waters: the upper reaches (suburb) 13 less than the lower course (urban area); and in sediments, the musk levels were also higher in urban area. The distribution pattern also showed seasonaly varied characteristics both in surface waters and sediments. The distribution coefficient (Kp) and standardized distribution coefficient (Koc) were calculated through musk concentrations and octanol-water partition coefficient (Kow). The results showed that AHTN was more easily absorbed in sediments. The adsorption of musk was increased with the increasing of total organic carbon (TOC) in Suzhou Creek. The significant positive correlation of HHCB and AHTN was found in this study, which indicated the same pollution source: the use and discharge of flavoring substances.  相似文献

This paper presents the EUCLIDES (Enhancing the Use of Cooperative Learning to Increase Development of Science Studies) project (134246-LLP-1-2007-1-IT-1-COMENIUS-CMP), which aims at introducing and pilot-testing an innovative teaching and training methodology, based on the constructivist approach and on problem-based learning (PBL), through the use of information communication technology (ICT) instruments. This methodology has been developed for the study of science subjects and, is currently used in some European schools of secondary education, involving teachers and students. A moodle platform has been developed to enforce the application and use of the methodology. Through this platform, teachers can monitor the progress of the work of the students and intervene as facilitators when it is necessary to provide further co-ordination, pose questions and suggest problem-based approaches. The use of the platform secures that the teachers remain distant from the students allowing students to work by themselves and find solutions to the problems posed.  相似文献

Azo dyes discharged in the environment are persistent organic pollutants (POPs), which are very difficult to remove. We developed a microwave-assisted Fenton-like process to degrade methyl orange (MO), an azo dye, with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) catalyzed by chromium compounds coexisting with MO in the solution. Comparison between the Cr(Ⅲ)-H2O2 and Cr(Ⅵ)-H2O2 systems shows" that Cr(Ⅵ) has a stronger and more stable catalytical activity than Cr(Ⅲ), and Cr(Ⅲ) is more susceptible to a change in the acidity or alkalinity of the reaction system. With a Cr(Ⅵ) concentration of 10 mmol L^-1 or a Cr(Ⅲ) concentration of 12 mmol L^-1 in the solution under the microwave irradiation of a power larger than 300 W for 3 min, 10 mmol L^-1 H2O2 can degrade more than 95% of 1 000 mg L^-1 methyl orange; when the microwave power is increased to 700 W, the same amount of H2O2 can degrade all methyl orange in the solution with the same amount of Cr(Ⅵ ) catalyst. Ultraviolet-visible spectrography indicates the cleavage of the azo bond in methyl orange after treatment, suggesting the potential o of this Fenton-like process to degrade azo dye POPs. Reusing waste chromium compounds coexisting with dyestuff in wastewater to catalyze the degradation of azo dyes could be a cost-effective technique for azo dyes and chromate manufacturers and/or users to treat their wastewater and prevent POPs from endangering the environment. This is of particula importance to controlling the water quality of the Three Gorges Reservoir.  相似文献
