Research: Students' Perceptions of Need for Personal Counseling Services in Community Colleges

Although the need for personal counseling services is on the rise across college campuses in the United States, many community colleges do not offer personal counseling services on campus. Instead, community college counseling services focus primarily on academic and career advising. The purpose of this study was to survey community college students in North Carolina to determine their interest in and need for a personal counseling center on campus. Participants were 134 men and 202 women, 18–68 years of age. Of the participants, 70% indicated that having a personal counseling center on campus would be “very helpful” or “helpful.” Results are discussed, and recommendations are made for college counselors working in community college settings.     

Military Surgeon and Humanity

Military surgeons are a special group of doctors.They are both medical workers and soldiers.Their mission is to serve the wounded on the battlefield.And there is no doubt that military surgeons will save our comrades in the army.However,should a military surgeon save the wounded enemy?It is indeed a dilemma.Some may save the wounded enemy because military surgeons are doctors after all and they can’t possibly abandon anybody to his fate,but some refuse to do so because military surgeons are soldiers.Therefore,some situations on the battlefield are discussed and advice is suggested for military surgeons,with heartfelt anticipation for there being less casualties on the battlefield as well as alleviating human suffering caused by war.     

Community Consultation and Intervention: Supporting Students Who Do Not Access Counseling Services

Although the severity of psychological problems among college students and the demand for campus counseling services has increased, many students who could benefit from mental health services still do not access them. This article describes Community Consultation and Intervention, a program designed to support students who are unlikely to access professional help despite the best efforts of traditional counseling center outreach. Community Consultation and Intervention reaches into the campus community to intervene by advising faculty and staff who may be the only contact for a distressed student, taking on a nontraditional “student support” role in direct interactions with students, offering advocacy when university systems or other environmental stressors precipitate psychological problems, and providing case management and crisis intervention services on behalf of the university when troubled students are especially concerning and disruptive to their communities. The most novel element of the program—the student support role—is distinct from conventional counseling in that it privileges problem solving, support, advice, and advocacy over focusing on emotions and other traditional mental health interventions. Case studies and programmatic challenges are described.     

美国社区学院退役军人培训——基于“职业加速器”的分析

“职业加速器”项目是美国社区学院为退役军人提供的技能培训计划。它采用志愿供给的模式,由志愿公益组织负责“供应”,公私合作伙伴共同“生产”,以项目为载体进行“消费”。美国社区学院的退役军人培训实现了课堂学习和实践训练的结合;培训服务涵盖职业咨询、培训课程及就业支持等职业过渡的全过程;充分整合先前经验及课程资源,缩短培训周期等。基于此,我国高职院校开展退役军人培训应强化政府、学校及企业的多元参与,实现校企深度合作;树立起以“退役军人”中心的服务理念,为其提供全方位、系统性的服务;整合优化先前经验、课程内容等教育资源,提高培训效率。     

Helping Military Families Who Have a Child with a Disability Cope with Stress

This exploratory study investigates perceived levels of family stress for military families who have a young child with a disability. Two primary areas of study were the sources and levels of stress, and the benefits of resources designed to help families cope. Results of the study indicate an increased level of stress for families when the demands of military life were coupled with the demands of caring for a young child with a disability. Events such as separation from family members, relocation, deployment, and personal safety and health issues emerged as concerns of the military personnel. The importance of coordinating services for these families is discussed.     

Take Two Pills and Call Me in December

Students utilize university counseling center services to address distress related to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Since counseling centers services such as group work or general psychotherapy may not address specific PTSD-symptom reduction, centers often give community referrals in such cases. Evidence-based therapies (EBTs), including Prolonged Exposure Therapy, have the potential to be offered within counseling center services, however. Prolonged exposure consistently provides significant symptom relief to patients with the most severe PTSD symptoms within 10–12 sessions. This article presents and examines two case examples of students who participated in a full prolonged exposure protocol within a counseling center clinic.

关于军用软件测评人员培养的若干思考

随着我国军队信息化建设的发展,对军用软件测评人员的能力和素质提出了更高要求。该岗位具有很强的政策性、技术性及工程性,军用软件测评人员既要掌握软件测评的基础理论、技术、方法以及装备管理政策,还需要熟悉软件领域知识及其将来在部队的实际使用情况。讨论目前军用软件测评人员培养过程中存在的不足,结合“打牢基础、拓展视野、提高能力”人才培养模式及思想,提出若干培养建议。

在当前乃至未来一个相当长的时期内,随着美国、日本、菲律宾等国家加紧对我南海岛屿的干涉与争夺,南海局势将不断升温。在这种形势下,制定清晰的南海军事战略,加强军事斗争准备,已经迫在眉睫。《孙子兵法·形篇》集中体现了孙子的军事力量建设和运用思想,可以为制定南海军事战略、有效维护南海权益提供重要的战略指导:将"积蓄力量,等待时机"作为总的战略思想,贯彻"先为不可胜"思想,积蓄军事力量,抓住战机;贯彻"攻守"思想,将"灵活转换与运用攻防"作为总的战略指导原则。     

论元朝政府对阵殁群体的抚恤

元朝时期战争频率较前代较高,众多军吏在早期统一战争、中期内部战争、晚期农民战争中阵殁,元朝政府采取了一系列的抚恤政策。阵殁的军吏可以分为身陷困境,捐躯殉职;参与作战,英勇牺牲;战斗负伤,不治身亡;行军途中,不幸卒殁四种阵殁群体。政府采取的抚恤手段主要有:追封阵殁者及上谥、官方料理丧葬事宜、赏赐钱物土地户民、荫叙亲属袭晋职位、亲侍汤药关怀伤者、旌表立祠后世传颂、政治指定结为姻亲等。除此以外,后抚恤时代的抚恤则是统治者个人情感的转移与承接,是另外一种“非抚恤”的“抚恤”。

初盛唐礼乐文化与文学关系述论

儒家思想既是唐代文人生活和文学作品创作的主要文化背景,也是唐代文化和唐代文学内在的精神命脉,作为儒家思想核心的礼乐文化与文士、文学的关系,主要表现在：国家文化政策为文学发展提供导向、文人积极参与礼乐文化建设、礼乐文化在不同文学形态中的渗透等方面。     

Case Type,Anchoring Errors,and Counselor Education

The presence of anchoring errors within a counseling education student sample was investigated using three sets of case material. After reading information that was “good,” “bad,” and “neutral,” participants were asked to rate the mental health of the three hypothetical clients varying in severity. Case type and order of presentation of the pieces of information were randomized across participants. Results indicated that anchoring errors were present for all three cases regardless of severity, but that the presence of anchoring errors was restricted to those made as a result of reading “bad” material. Implications for alerting students in counselor educator programs to the presence of anchoring errors and the need to avoid them are discussed.     

College Counseling Today: Contemporary Students and How Counseling Centers Meet Their Needs

There is evidence that today’s college and university students are struggling with emotional and behavioral health problems at higher rates than in past generations. This article explores the various ways, utilizing a range of models, that college and university counseling centers have mobilized to respond to these challenges. We examine literature about the characteristics and concerns of the current student generation along with what counseling centers are doing to respond to the challenge of student needs. We describe a survey (N = 408) of members of the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD) and American College Counseling Association (ACCA) that elicited the kinds of services, functions, structures, and organizational relationships found in today’s counseling centers. In addition to confirming the core mission of providing counseling and psychotherapy, the survey revealed widespread counseling center collaboration and consultation activities beyond the counseling room. The survey also indicated a variety of administrative and structural arrangements in the way counseling centers are placed on their individual campuses. Finally, we suggest a framework for planning, executing, and evaluating counseling center and campus initiatives.

中国当代文学在70年的发展过程中,既秉承了五四时期的“人的文学”创作观,以“人”为中心,关注人在现实生活中的生存状态,又愈发关注当下时代生活,以实际行动体现了当代知识分子的责任意识与时代担当。同时在创作群体上深受现代文学熏陶的老一辈作家笔耕不缀,新生代作家亦逐渐成为时代文学的中坚力量,尤其是少数民族作家也在自身的民族精神与文化传统的滋养下佳作不断,70年的中国文学成就斐然。对70年来中国文学和重要成果进行深入的研究,不仅有助于中国语言文学学科的建设,也有助于文学的繁荣发展。
