The status of English in today’s world has been established definitely.It is not only embodied in the increasing numbers of speakers,but also embodied in the role which English has played in some non-English speaking countries.English is spread as an International language in worldwide and which is no longer belonging to any English speaking countries but belonging to those who use it(McKay,2002).The consequences of English spreading are:on one hand,English as an international lingua franca status has been further consolidated;on the other hand,different regional variants appear in English.These changes lead to the debate between Standard English and varieties of English.All of these in turn generate a profound impact on English language teaching.China as one of non-English speaking countries has also been the impact of globalization in English.The English teaching in China is facing challenges and innovation.  相似文献

In the study of metaphor, as a branch of the general cognitive science, cognitive linguistics has been walking forward at all times. In recent years, attention has gradually been paid on the metaphor study in the Chinese academic circles, and some domestic scholars have carried out research one after another, mainly through some daily expression, poetry, prose or novel to analyze and demonstrate the similarities and differences of love metaphors in Chinese and western culture. The new exploration of the role of metaphor in poetry and the cognitive mechanism was included, and it gained some achievements. The innovation of this paper is that it breaks the confinition to everyday expression, literature, combing with classic and modern songs in English and Chinese, to compare the love metaphor in English and Chinese songs.  相似文献

English as a foreign language has been a subject in middle school of China for years. Teachers and educators generation by generation have been trying to find an optimal method of teaching foreign language to help students master it better. After unceasing exploring, traditional teaching pattern has been im- proved and new teaching approaches appear such as Task-based language teaching and com- municative language teaching. However, what- ever teaching methods English teachers use in the class, they should not ignore the cultural input in English teaching. The successful and efficient English teaching should transform the single language teaching into the combination of language teaching and cultural teaching. The thesis is concerned with the significance of culture in English teaching. More specifically, some consideration will be given to the reasons and ways of teaching culture.  相似文献

Dictation is a complicated process of decoding information and reorganizing mean- ing of an utterance and it has long been used to measure students' language profi- ciency and help them to develop accuracy in listening and writing. However, many English majors have poor performance in dictation of TEM-4. With the deepening of China‘s reform and open-door pohcy, the ability to participate mrectly m oral interactions in English becomes more and more important, hence the focus of English language teaching on improving students‘ oral English proficiency. The CET Spoken English Test (CET-SET), which is a face-to-face oral proficiency test, is a component part of the CET test. Since its first administration on a national scale in November 1999, it has been receiving a growing amount of attention from teachers and students in universities in China. As the number of studen tstaking the CET-SET is growing rapidly year by year, it has become crucial to develop an alternative to the CET-SET that can be operationally more practical. My views on the CET-SET are expounded in this paper, which is structured as follows. First, I provide an overview of the CET-SET. Next, I identify several aspects of the test that are amenable to changes. Finally, I put forward some suggestions as to the development of an alternative approach for the CET-SET.  相似文献

With the reform of college English course,the objectives,philosophy and models of Chinese EFL teaching have been deeply changed.So college students are required to have higher language proficiency;it is also a challenge for the English teachers in our country.The traditional teaching mode should be changed.College English teaching is not only to input knowledge to students,but also to foster their skills on the application of knowledge,and excavate their potential in order to promote their language proficiency.Writing,as one of the efficient ways to measure students’comprehensive English ability,has attracted more attention in the field of English researches,which,however,got little improvement so far.What we can see from the requirements is that college students and teachers should put more attention on their output instead of input alone.Therefore,this paper intends to apply Swain’s "Output Hypothesis" to the college English teaching of non-English major students in China,and make some teaching suggestions based on the three functions of the "Output Hypothesis".  相似文献
