编辑管理系统的开发和应用

编辑部的日常工作中(收稿登记、审稿登记、期刊发行等),从收稿登记时起到期刊发行时为止,要重复抄写许多次,不但工作效率低,而且容易出错。任一环节的疏忽都会使稿件查不着下落,造成不应有的麻烦与损失。为了彻底改变这一状况,使编辑日常工作科学化、规范化,我们在IBM-PC/XT机CCDOS操作系统的支持下,利用dBASEⅢ数据库语言,研制成功了编辑管理系统。     

图书馆计算机管理集成系统的技术设计

本文详细论述了深圳大学图书馆计算机管理集成系统。本系统所用硬件是组成3~+局域网络的3 Server和若干台IBMPC-AT/XT微型机，利用dBASE ⅢPLUS多用户数据库管理系统建立的中央数库贮存全部馆藏的中、西、日文图书和期刊的信息。借助这个系统，可以高效率地完成图书馆各项业务，包括采访、编目、流通、检索和期刊处理等的计算机管理。该系统已于1986年12月起陆续投入运行，它是适合中小型图书馆的经济实用的系统，易于推广应用。     

微型计算机在我馆的应用

在图书馆管理中,流通工作是一个非常重要的环节,它即繁索又重复,工作量很大笔者在微型计算机IBM—PC/XT上,用关系数据库dBASE—Ⅲ,经过反复的探索与实践,终于研制成一套微机应用软件:《图书流通管理系统》。该系统不仅可以解决图书的借阅、归还与检索等问题,而且还可以对图书进行续借、预约、催还和打印预约通知等项工作。该系统还可以对图书流通情况进行精确的统计,如借书人次,借书量,还书量,拒借     

Providing access to the 1990 U.S. census maps.

"The U.S. Bureau of the Census has published on CD-ROM format data for the smallest geographic reporting levels....Providing access to the maps that define the reporting areas used by the Bureau within a county is one aspect of service that is unique to census files STF1A, STF1B, and STF3A. The paper illustrates the way these reporting levels are defined in the Tract/BNA Maps and Block Maps. The steps taken by one library to develop a link between a geographic area of interest to a patron and the areas defined on these maps are described. These steps include preserving and housing the maps in a way that makes them easy to use and preparing an index to the information contained on the maps using dBASE registered trademark software and information taken from STF1A using Extract software."     

The effect of CD-ROM MEDLINE on online end user and mediated searching.

Since 1970, Indiana University School of Medicine Library (IUSML) has traditionally been a high volume online searching institution. The library recently implemented an end user searching program which includes MEDLINE on CD-ROM. The effect of CD-ROM on online end user and mediated searching is discussed. Comparative statistics are provided by category of search service. CD-ROM has had a dramatic lowering effect on online end user searching and has had little effect on mediated searching. IUSML's experience with CD-ROM technology has been a positive one. Trained end users have become IUSML's greatest asset.

CD-ROM data storage technology: Benefits and limitations in document publication

Optical data storage advances and compact disc market acceptance have led to the development of a new mass storage medium, CD-ROM (Compact Disc—Read Only Memory). This article provides a brief overview of the technology; lists the production processes associated with it; outlines its advantages and disadvantages; and provides current costs and storage equivalents. The article continues with an analysis of specific benefits and practical limitations of CD-ROM technology in documentation. Jay E. Gillette currently is on the staff of Bellcore’s Information Networking Institute, a joint program with Carnegie Mellon University. Previously, he was a senior technical planner in Information Technology, and served with Virginia Meade as project manager for Bellcore’s first CD-ROM product.

Monitoring patron use of CD-ROM databases using SignIn-Stat

SignIn-Stat, a PC-based, menu-driven program, collects information from users of the library's public access computer systems. It was used to collect patron use data for the library's four CD-ROM workstations for the period September 1987 to April 1988 and to survey users for the period December 1987 to March 1988. During the sample period, 5,909 CD-ROM uses were recorded. MEDLINE was the most heavily used database, followed by PsycLIT and Micromedex CCIS. Students accounted for 61% of the use, while faculty, residents, and staff were responsible for 31%. Graduate students had the highest rate of use per student. Nineteen percent of use was by patrons who had never used CD-ROMs before, while 37% was by patrons who had used CD-ROMs ten or more times. Residents were the least experienced user group, while graduate students and faculty were the most experienced.

在概述国外光盘技术和光盘数据库发展特点的基础上, 将我国的光盘技术发展分为引进、二次开发和自行研制三个阶段, 较全面总结了每个阶段的特点和光盘在图书情报领域的应用情况, 深人分析了存在的问题, 提出引进光盘应统一协调, 力避重复, 加大光盘数据库联合研建的力度和突破本系统范围的局限校园网、院所网的建设是当务之急, 提出先建光盘网后建校园网和院所网的建议全文数据库的建设应进一步扩大收刊范围, 形成优势和特色, 使检索更方便、功能更完善加快权威商情数据库、成果库的研制步伐完善和加强知识产权法, 专利法和信息法, 培养信息法官, 健全信息执法过程, 此外有必要加强多语种光盘数据库的研建和开发多语种互译系统工具软件, 同时提高科研人员的外语能力和水平。     

Combining new technologies for effective collection development: a bibliometric study using CD-ROM and a database management program.

Librarians have used bibliometrics for many years to assess collections and to provide data for making selection and deselection decisions. With the advent of new technology--specifically, CD-ROM databases and reprint file database management programs--new cost-effective procedures can be developed. This paper describes a recent multidisciplinary study conducted by two library faculty members and one allied health faculty member to test a bibliometric method that used the MEDLINE and CINAHL databases on CD-ROM and the Papyrus database management program to produce a new collection development methodology.
