This paper presents an efficient parallel algorithm for the shortest-path problem in interval graph for computing shortest-paths in a weighted interval graph that runs in O(n) time with n intervals in a graph. A linear processor CRCW algorithm for determining the shortest-paths in an interval graphs is given.

Teacher learning： Reflective practice as a site of engagement for professional identity construction

This paper reports a qualitative study in response to the growing research interest in teacher learning. Informed by a sociocultural perspective, teacher learning is considered as a process of identity construction in the paper. This paper taps into the development of teacher identity embedded in teacher learning and views reflection as a social practice for enhancing teacher learning. Through a close analysis of a selected discussion thread, this paper aims to demonstrate that teacher-learners＇ reflective practice in the online learning community provided a site of engagement for developing their professional identity and shaping the practice of teaching in their process of learning to teach.

In this paper we discuss a novel storage scheme for simultaneous memory access in parallel turbo decoder. The new scheme employs vertex coloring in graph theory. Compared to a similar method that also uses unnatural order in storage, our scheme requires 25 more memory blocks but allows a simpler configuration for variable sizes of code lengths that can be implemented on-chip. Experiment shows that for a moderate to high decoding throughput （40-100 Mbps）, the hardware cost is still affordable for 3GPP＇s （3rd generation partnership project） interleaver.     

Experiment of Adopting the Learner Blog in CALL-based Practical English Writing Course

The learner blog is adopted in the instruction of CALL-based Practical English Writing course for A-level non-Eng lish major sophomores in our school in the spring this year.After examining how the program is implemented in detail,sugges tions are provided for future instructors in this related program.To ensure the program a good start,it is advisable for instructors to set aside a certain time to help each student to create a blog account in the beginning.Besides,it is requisite to provide stu dents with blogs titles with elaborate design and with the evaluation and further comment of the blog in the course of face-toface communication.Using of blogs in CALL-based Practical English Course is helpful in improving students’writing quality,in gearing up self-introspection for participants,in creating cooperative learning community,in fostering autonomous learning and cooperative learning,in building up communicative channels between students and instructors and among students themselves.     

Critique of a Language-Learning Website

Listening plays a crucial part in the learning of overseas students in the United Kingdom. Students can never follow a lecture or discussion in English without listening. Traditional classroom teaching in listening limits students＇ time and space. However, the Web-based listening course accommodates listeners a great deal, enabling them to access the Internet at their own pace. In this paper, the author would like to study on a language learning Website for developing learners＇ listening skills, designed by the CELE （Centre for English Language Education） at the University of Nottingham. In the first part, the author will review the issues concerning listening, conventional materials design, CALL （computer assisted language learning） and actual Websites established for EAP （English academic purposes）. Through analysis, the author would develop a set of evaluation criteria in order to evaluate the CELE listening Website. These guidelines should also be helpful for teachers and students to select suitable online listening materials. By using these criteria and comparing with other Websites for similar purposes, the author would highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the CELE Website and offer suggestions for its improvement. In the last section, the author would consider the generalisability of the Website in respect of design principles, exercise types and tools, to check whether it is appropriate for teaching listening in a specific context and whether it is applicable for creating a parallel site developing reading skills.     

An Analysis on the Reasons for the Cultivation of Nonverbal Communicative Competency Being Neglected in FLT

Cross-cultural nonverbal communicative competency constitutes a very important part of foreign language proficiency. However, for many reasons, the cultivation of cross-cultural nonverbal communicative competency has for a long time been neglected in the process of Foreign Language Teaching (FLT). The start of higher education of primary school teachers in 1959 marks a definitive step in a process. This training has had an effect on all areas. In terms of music training, different periods can be observed which appears during the full strategic change of the training. Professionals, however, have always tried to find the proper place for music which has to be fought for from time to time. Music education has never lost sight of the Kodaly concept in public education. We aim to prepare our students to internalize the abilities necessary to become a successful primary school teacher, keeping in mind the requirements of qualification for the major. In this process, the changes taken place in the Hungarian higher education were determinative. Music education practically has kept its place in general and special primary school teacher training. The major of primary school teacher is a definitive undergraduate course in the teacher training field. Its importance directly shows in public education. One of the crucial points of education should be the formation of values of schoolchildren. General education is a cultural level different in every society and age that a society sets as a standard for its members. This education itself should have a European culture as a prerequisite with Hungarian characteristics.

＂We＇re Going to Figure That Out Together＂： Implications of Segregating Programs in Content Literacy Courses

Many secondary teacher preparation programs require that undergraduate candidates complete a literacy course, usually taught within a college of education, where 30 or more teacher candidates from various majors are enrolled in the same course. University instructors teaching literacy courses may have difficulty in developing course content and assignments which are relevant to all teacher education fields. This paper explains how one university implemented a literacy course for PETE （physical education teacher education） majors only, in order to focus on how literacy can be incorporated into high school physical education courses. Nineteen teacher candidates were invited to register for a section of literacy in the content area for PETE majors. Multiple means of data collection were employed to engage participants （pre- and post- surveys, electronic discussion board and interviews）. The purpose of the study is to find out if it is beneficial for teacher candidates to participate in a segregated content literacy methods classes compared to traditional （mixed majors） content literacy methods, and the impact of a non-traditional teacher education literacy class for PETE candidates. Recommendations for future research in regards to working with content literacy across various content areas are made.     

Practicality in Curriculum Building: A Historical Perspective on the Mission of Chinese Education

This paper examines how the definition and interpretation of the concept gewu zhizhi 格物致知 (investigating things and extending knowledge), evolved along with Chinese intellectual efforts to construct the framework for Chinese learning which, in turn, had a profound impact on the development of educational curricula in different historical periods. In Confucian philosophy, “practicality” appears ambivalent, as it can refer to moral cultivation in daily life or knowledge in the material world. Such ambivalence, embodied in the evolution of the concept of gewu zhizhi, can be interpreted as a Chinese search for a well-rounded curriculum in education. Within this framework, this paper traces the origin of the concept in The Great Learning, and investigates how it was developed to refer specifically to natural studies and then to scientific knowledge introduced into China in the late Qing period. This historical reflection on Chinese education points to the shared humanistic values in the Confucian approach to education and in the Renaissance ideal of a liberal education. It calls for a search for a common humanity in rethinking the content and aim of a modern Chinese education.

Distributed anonymous data perturbation method for privacy-preserving data mining

Privacy is a critical requirement in distributed data mining. Cryptography-based secure multiparty computation is a main approach for privacy preserving. However, it shows poor performance in large scale distributed systems. Meanwhile, data perturbation techniques are comparatively efficient but are mainly used in centralized privacy-preserving data mining （PPDM）. In this paper, we propose a light-weight anonymous data perturbation method for efficient privacy preserving in distributed data mining. We first define the privacy constraints for data perturbation based PPDM in a semi-honest distributed environment. Two protocols are proposed to address these constraints and protect data statistics and the randomization process against collusion attacks： the adaptive privacy-preserving summary protocol and the anonymous exchange protocol. Finally, a distributed data perturbation framework based on these protocols is proposed to realize distributed PPDM. Experiment results show that our approach achieves a high security level and is very efficient in a large scale distributed environment.
