Police-Civilian Interaction,Compliance, Accommodation,and Trust in an Intergroup Context: International Data

Abstract

Prior cross-cultural research has produced models of police-civilian interaction that highlight the effect of officers’ communication accommodation and reported trust in police on attitudinal outcomes. The present study, conducted in Korea, Japan, Guam, and Canada and involving 684 university students, continued this program of research by testing a theoretical model exploring the influence of perceived police officer communication accommodation and reported trust in police on attitudes about compliance with police requests. Findings indicated that across study locations perceived police officer communication accommodation predicted trust in police which, in turn, predicted attitudes about compliance with police requests.

上海与韩国科技创新人才培养政策的比较研究

本文通过对上海和韩国现行的主要科技创新人才培养政策进行比较分析,挖掘韩国人才培养政策可借鉴的优势特点,为上海人才培养政策的进一步优化完善提供启示。研究发现,二者在政策对象、政策目标、政策实施和政策评价等方面既有相同之处,也存在一定的差异。上海人才培养政策可以在扩大培养对象范围、优化人才培养模式、构建综合培养体系等方面进一步考虑。     

日韩武技现代化对我国学校武术的启示

时至今日,武术仍未能很好地进入校园,其原因何在,如何从柔道、跆拳道、空手道的成功现代化和国际化当中寻求启发,成为紧迫论题。主要运用文献资料法,基于对学校武术历史、现状的反思和日韩武技现代化的启示,对我国学校武术的根本问题和根本方略做出探讨。研究认为,学校武术开展的现状不能实现中华民族赋予它的文化使命,日韩武技现代化的经验可为我们提供启示——将传统意义上的搏杀武技改造为一项现代文明搏击项目,该项目需满足几个趋势保证安全文明化、保持技击本质性、具有游戏趣味性、彰显民族独特性。在此基础上,做出武术以太极推手形式进入校园的提案。     

Embodied inter-referencing: encounters with and among “Asian” students in the Australian classroom

ABSTRACT

This essay examines the pedagogical practice of referencing my experiences as a transnational Korean American woman in the classroom and considers how it opens up space for domestic and international students of East, Southeast, and South Asian backgrounds to reflect on their different identities, histories, and cultures. In particular, it focuses on how this practice enables Asian students to share their experiences of and insights about racial difference, racism, and whiteness in Australia and other parts of the world. Building on the concept of Asian “inter-referencing” from Chua Beng Huat (2015), I coin the term “embodied inter-referencing” to describe the strategic ways I use autobiographical narrative to create an inclusive, interactive, and mutually respectful learning space. I centre here on how some Asian students respond to this strategy by telling their own stories and in the process, create transnational, diasporic, and inter-Asian affective communities inside and outside the classroom.     

Engagement with news on Twitter: insights from Australia and Korea

ABSTRACT

This study examines the patterns of news engagement among news consumers with different political affiliation and cultural background. We use computational methods and data from Twitter in a cross-country comparison of engagement with six online news sources in Australia and South Korea. For our analysis, we used a subset of Twitter users who retweeted at least one political story during the period of collection, and for whom we were able to predict political affiliation using correspondence analysis and data on Twitter follower ties to politicians. We find that right-wing Australian retweeters are more intense in their news engagement, compared with their left-wing counterparts, whereas in South Korea it was the opposite. Australian right-wing political retweeters have more diverse information sources, while there was no difference in information diversity between the right and left in South Korea. We discuss how the political situation in South Korea at the time of data collection may have affected our analysis. We emphasise the methodological contributions of our research and its connection to on-going research into the behavioural foundations of ‘filter bubbles’.

Competencies for port and logistics personnel: An application of regional human resource development

Human resource development for regional strategic industries is an emerging emphasis for the development of industries that have growth potential. This article identifies competencies and expertise levels needed by port and logistics industry personnel, a sector that has growth potential in Busan, South Korea. The research consisted of expert interviews to develop a competency survey. Six competency clusters and 16 sub-competencies were developed. This research was useful in the development of an educational program and suggests ways in which regional human resource development (RHRD) can be used.     

终身教育视野下韩国成人教育的发展特点及启示

成人教育具有终身性、开放性和自主性的学习特点,在终身教育、终身学习体系中具有独特地位。韩国一直非常重视教育,在终身教育思想的影响下,成人教育取得了巨大成功。学习和借鉴其主要经验,对于我国成人教育的改革与发展有所裨益。     

韩国教育改革的人类学反思——读《学校的革新之路——从教育人类学的观点出发》

教育改革中的教师改革往往具有重要的意义,对于教改是否成功往往起到重要的影响。韩国曾经在20世纪末发起过一场长达十年的教育改革,在此过程中对也尝试积极地对教师进行改造。韩国人类学家徐根元对此进行了深入的人类学研究。作者指出,这次教育改革主要是一次自上而下的威权式改革,并从工具理性的角度对教师的价值重新进行定位,使得教师的主体性被剥夺,并成为利用改革过程中提供的资源为个人牟利的个体。通过两个田野调查个案的比较,作者揭示了这场教育改革的弊端。最后,作者用“蒲公英”和“向日葵”来象征性地表达,在这场教育改革过程中,教育价值日渐凋落,而追求个人成就的功利性教师茁壮成长。这意味着这场改革以失败而告终。
