An ordinary moonlighting activity? Determinants of the provision of private tutoring by Czech schoolteachers

Teacher moonlighting (teachers working other jobs in addition to teaching) may have positive as well as negative implications. In the context of post-socialist countries, the provision of private tutoring is one of the common forms of teacher moonlighting. The aim of the paper is to analyse the prevalence and factors that are associated with a) having a paid job in addition to one’s regular teaching obligations; b) provision of private tutoring among teachers. Results are drawn from a representative sample of 494 Czech teachers of academic school subjects in lower secondary schools who responded to an online questionnaire survey. Male teachers working part-time, with shorter professional experience, higher household financial burden and lower satisfaction with teacher salaries were more likely to moonlight. The provision of private tutoring was only associated with shorter professional experience and the teaching of core subjects, suggesting that Czech teachers’ motivation to provide private tutoring is currently not primarily financial.     

图书流通数据分析的H类指数遴选及应用——以西北农林科技大学图书馆为例

[目的/意义] 优化藏书采访工作和流通管理，实现对藏书采访、藏书总量和结构等状况适时监测、评估、调控等的标准化管理。[方法/过程] 通过对H类指数中的H指数、A指数和G指数相关性、变异性和适应性分析，遴选适用于图书流通数据分析的A指数，并根据帕累托定律采用A指数对西北农林科技大学图书馆2014-2018年的前20%的图书流通数据分别进行统计分析。[结果/结论] 研究结果表明：平均A指数对中图法一级类目与读者性别、读者专业、读者年级以及图书出版社、图书出版年、单位等数据统计分析具有较理想的表现，能够更全面、准确地遴选核心读者群、核心出版者和核心出版年；同时发现，布拉德福定律不仅能够应用于期刊管理，而且能够应用于藏书管理。本文研究能够为探索H类指数分析高校图书馆藏书流通数据提供参考依据。     

Data Visualization as Participatory Research: A Model for Digital Collections to Inspire User-Driven Research

The emerging creative practices of digital collections are increasing in prominence thanks to the access to, and appeal of, data visualizations. Interactive data visualizations, such as a map, timeline, chart, graph, or artist’s rendering of data, enable users to pursue their own research interests within a collection and participate in new areas of research. Use of these data visualizations enhances the scope of the collection and enables a modern and diverse thematic collection to emerge. This article considers the question: Does the addition of data visualizations affect how users participate with a research collection? Impacts on collection development, application of user-centered design, and analysis of users’ exploratory strategies are discussed. Examples of data visualizations used in digital humanities projects and digital collections are presented as case studies.     

离岸集装箱码头新装卸工艺模式下陆域集疏运堆场堆存空间分配

离岸集装箱码头因其岛屿面积限制，难以通过扩建码头内部堆场增加吞吐能力。为解决这个问题，提出一种离岸集装箱码头新装卸工艺模式。新装卸工艺模式是通过在离岸集装箱码头附近的陆域地带建设陆域集疏运堆场,与离岸集装箱码头进行协同装卸作业的模式。陆域集疏运堆场堆存空间分配的目标是满足离岸集装箱码头装卸作业预翻倒要求;单批次输送集装箱的量受到陆岛运输最大通行能力限制。根据上述目标与特点，构建新装卸工艺模式下陆域集疏运堆场堆存空间分配模型，并设计蒙特卡洛树搜索算法进行求解。通过算例分析验证模型的有效性。结果表明该方法能够满足陆域集疏运堆场堆存空间分配需求并提高离岸集装箱码头的吞吐能力。     

Diversity Literary Awards: A Tool for Assessing an Academic Library’s Collection

Abstract

Diversity literary awards and other sources were used to create a list of high-quality titles written by and about underrepresented groups. This list was used to assess the diversity and inclusiveness of the library collections of a land-grant university in the Pacific Northwest and compare it to peer institutions. Gaps in the collection and acquisition processes were identified and will be used to improve the processes to increase the number of diverse titles added to the library’s collections.

对湖南省103所民办高校进行抽样调查发现：民办高校的体育师资、体育教学、教育目标、场地器材设备及经费的投入等都具有相应的特色，研究指出充分利用自由灵活的办学机制、尽快规范教学管理是保证民办高校体育教育政党甚至蓬勃发展的关键。
