China in the Writings of Jack London

Jack London, who is well received by Chinese readers for his works criticizing the predatory capitalist system, published also quite a number of writings about China and Chinese people, distorting the image of Chinese and advocating the “white supremacy” and the “Yellow Peril”. This article attempts to reveal his racism displayed in his distorted image of China, through an analysis of the representative works of this kind of his writings, and explore the social and cultural environments in which this kind of his writings rooted and their harmful influence, so as to deepen our knowledge of his writings and accordingly gain an all-round view of his complex and contra-dictory mind.
