词调是词体的本质特征之一，它的成长经历了漫长岁月。从源流方面，它经历了词调孕育、词曲交融到词调定格的演变：从功能上，它经历了由歌舞娱乐为主、音乐与文学功能兼备和文学创作欣赏为主的转变。由于词人音乐素质和词调曲谱自身局限导致词调音乐功能的弱化和缺失，词调最终被定格为标示词体格律的文学性专用名词。

A Study on the Function and Traces of the Development of Ci Tunes

Ci tunes is one of the main characteristics of Ci, and it has undergone a long history of development. In terms of its source, Ci experienced several phases including the conception of Ci tunes, harmonious mixture of tunes and Ci, and the regularization of Ci tunes. In terms of its function, Ci was first served as a means of musical entertainment, then it carried both musical and literary functions and at last it developed into an activity of literary creation and appreciation. However, due to the deficient musical capabilities of the poets and its own limitations, Ci tunes gradually lost its musical function, and thus merely became a literary term marking the different meter and rhyme of Ci style.
