Some Significant Issues in Journalism and Communication Education

This article is a summary of a series of in-depth interviews with deans and professors from 20 journalism and communication schools or departments in the United States and other countries.The explored issues include the function of journalism and communication and the mission of journalism and communication education,the goal and format of education for undergraduate and postgraduate,faculty structure and evaluation system.The main conclusion is that the mission of journalism and communication education is to cultivate journalists and other communication related workers with strong social responsibility,and the education format and faculty structure should be relevant to the education goals.
