A Dancer on the Edge of Knife——Comments on Brett Ashley's Double Images in The Sun Also Rises

Brett Ashley,a female protagonist in Hemingway's novel The Sun Also Rises,has been regarded as a"Circe"or a"bitch"for ages.But in the late 1960s,many female scholars concluded,from the perspective of feminism,that Brett was a new woman,representing a new image in the western world.Yet this paper has some reservations about the contradictory views.It argues that Brett is portrayed rather as a dancer on the edge of knife through analyzing her lifestyle,thoughts,and feelings in the historical context.
