Epidemiological Investigation of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury in Athletes

athletes from 47 top-level sports teams at the national and provincial level were investigated from August 1991 to September 1993 for epidemiological injuries. Among the athletes 32 were found with injury of anterior cruciate ligament, taking 0.47% of the total injury incidence. Of the injury causes, technical faults caused 59.4% of the trauma leaving others caused by accidental injuries (15.6%), arena factors (3.1%) and so on. All cases complained of clinical symptoms in the knee joint. 53.6% of the cases were harmful to knee function and training, some even had to stop training or accept operative treatment despite 31% cases still could join normal training. The injury causes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of anterior cruciate ligament were discussed in this paper.
