| 摘 要： | 在亚里士多德的悲剧净化理论看来,《珍妮姑娘》是一部＂严肃、完整、有一定的长度＂的作品,符合亚里士多德的悲剧标准。小说情节的突转和主人公的悲剧性格引发了读者的怜悯与恐惧之情,使小说产生了强烈的悲剧效果。《珍妮姑娘》充分体现了悲剧艺术认知社会人生、教化伦理道德、陶治审美情操的功用。

| Abstract: | Theodore Dreiser was the very first important American author in the 20th century.Jennie Gerhardt,one of his best novels narrates the tragic life of a beautiful,virtuous girl living in the very bottom of the society.Based on Aristotle's theory of tragedy and its katharsis of tragic emotions,this paper gives a new interpretation of this novel. |
