Bravely Surpass——Hardy and His New Women

Hardy's thought surpasses the traditional male writers in his age who always depict the obedient females lacking of natural feelings and usually restricting themselves in family lives.Then he dissolves the traditional portraits of the female characters who are placed under the male-centered expectation.He also puts females in a wide range of social stage.The surpass is obviously embodied in the two characters created by Hardy in his two novels: The Mayor of Casterbridge and Tess of D'Urbervills,which reflects a series of new female images in Hardy's "Character and Environment" novels.
