| Abstract: | The author studies thirteen auxiliary verbs in The Book of Master Xun carefully and thoroughly. The author holds that an auxiliary verb has two outstanding features-In grammar ,it can only appears before verb or verbal element and it can enter the double negative structure "no...no" .In meaning, it gives the meaning of a sentence the modal idea of judgment and evaluation. And the modal idea directs neither to the object mentioned in the sentence nor to the statement of the object. Seven characters of the thirteen auxiliary verbs are studied in detail. |
