The Impact of a Company's IT Capability and Competitive Actions on its Competitive Advantages

Whether information technology can bring about sustained competitive advantages has been a debate among researchers in the past two decades. The aim of the paper is to develop the relationship between IT capability and sustained competitive advantages according to the resources - based review. Theoretical analysis shows that the positive relationship between sustained competitive advantages and IT capability composed of IT and other organizational resources is mediated by competitive actions. As a dynamic capability, organizational learning moderates the positive relationship between competitive actions and IT capability. In addition, the significance of this research is also discussed. The propositions brought forward in the paper, however, are offered less as definitive statements than as spurs for much needed additional research.
