General Secretary XI Jinping Thought on P.E: Theoretical Explanation of “Building Sports Powerhouse and Powerful China”

Sports and life are closely related. General Secretary XI Jinping takes "people's yearning for a better life" as the goal of national governance. Since the Eighteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, General Secretary XI has made important instructions on sports, delivered important speeches, attended major sports activities, met with Chinese sports workers and granted an interview to international sports organizations and other officials. All of these expressed the Party Central Committee with General Secretary XI as the core has paid great attention to sports. This paper analyzed the historical significance of the series of speeches of General Secretary XI Jinping in guiding the long-term development, systematic planning, scientific decision-making and clear target making of the Chinese sports. These speeches have formed a sports thought with rich content and system. The evolution of sports thought from "promoting physical culture and building up the people's health" to that of "building sports powerhouse and powerful China" reflects that the development of Chinese sports industry has changed from being single functional to multi-functional, being instrumental to being humanistic and rational, and from internal governance to external governance. It embodies the people's participation in sports, national health, new image, global status and all-round development of China and is a national policy to fully guide the modernization of the Chinese sports management and governance system.
