论茅坤对柳宗元文章的接受

On Mao Kun' s Acceptance of Liu Zongyuan' s Articles

Mao Kun played a special role in having Liu Zongyuan＇ s articles accepted; he was a key figure in establishing the status of Liu＇ s articles. Mao Kun had similar experience with Liu Zongyuan, so he could make an objective assessment of Liu Zongyuan. In terms of evaluating Han Yu＇ s and Liu Zongyuan＇ s articles, Mao Kun could objectively assess the position of Liu Zongyuan＇ s articles. He held that it was true Han Yu and Liu Zongyuan shared the same status in literature in their times and though Liu Zongyuan was only a coordinator in the Ancient Chinese Prose Movement, he made as important achievements as Han Yu＇ s and even surpassed Han in landscape essays. Mao Kun believed that Liu Zongyuan was the best writer of landscape essays he ever saw; the landscape of Yongzhou and Liuzhou closely connected with Liu＇ s experience, forming the style of Liu＇ s land- scape essays ： ＂Liu＇ s experience coincides with the landscapes he saw＂. Mao Kun also pointed out that Liu Zongyuan＇ s articles embody ＂light melancholy＂, a good presentation of literary excellence. Mao Kun found out the value of Liu Zongyuan＇ s articles, and understand the position of Liu＇ s landscape essays. These are of special significance in making Liu Zongyuan＇ s articles ac- cepted in the history.
