Celie,the female protagonist of The Color Purple,has suffered a lot since her stepfather raped her when she was only fourteen.However,in that patriarchal society,Celie can only write letters to God instead of telling others for help.Fortunately,by the help of her friend and lover,Shug,Celie begins to awake and fight back.At last,she becomes an independent woman.This thesis will focus on the process of Celie’s awakening and how she could do that.

As leading figures in English literature during the Neoclassical period,Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift both showed great concern with the nature of man and his place in the Great Chain of Being.They both emphasized the irreplaceable role of reason in guiding man in his self-positioning in the universe,and pointed out the tragic,pathetic,or detestable fall man was vulnerable to in case of violating the law of nature.Pope attached more importance to setting right man’ s position as against God and beast,while Swift showed more interest in the chain of being within the human society;Pope kept warning man against his pride and possible ruin as a result of his ambition,while Swift worried more about man’ s degradation due to loss of reason.     

Young Children’s Color Preferences in the Interior Environment

This study focuses on children’s color preferences in the interior environment. Previous studies highlight young children’s preferences for the colors red and blue. The methods of this study used a rank ordering technique and a semi-structured interview process with 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old children. Findings reveal that children prefer the color red in the interior environment. The color purple was preferred by girls. Cool colors were favored over warm colors. Recommendations are made for application of color in the child development environment.
