The partial correlation coefficient is derived analytically under exemplary factor patterns. In these patterns, variables are described as an additive composition of a set of orthogonal factors, including general, common, and specific factors. Viewed in this framework, it is evident that the partial correlation may yield spurious results. Partialling out an infallible variable or a variable with no unique component does not necessarily yield an interpretable coefficient. Examples from the literature are given where an understanding of the underlying factor pattern facilitates interpretation of the computed partial correlation coefficient.  相似文献

A structured team approach in learning introductory COBOL programming was empirically assessed with a sample of 215 undergraduate business administration majors. For each assigned program, students in the experimental group read and critiqued team members’ program listings. COBOL proficiency was measured by a final examination testing knowledge of language rules, ability to read a program, and the ability to write a program. Analysis of multiple covariance was used to statistically adjust test scores for age and conditional reasoning scores. For the program writing variable, a significant difference favoring the experimental group was found. The language rules variable showed no significant difference, while the reading variable did not satisfy the required assumptions of the proposed statistical model. However, the experimental group showed higher mean scores for both of these variables. The findings provide empirical support for incorporating team activities into the programming learning process to more effectively develop student proficiency in writing COBOL programs.  相似文献

This study represents an expansion of previous research investigating the prevalence of sleep difficulties in college students. Sleep quality and sleep habits were assessed via self‐report questionnaires. Poor sleep quality was reported by 22.6% of participants, whereas 65.9% replied that they experienced occasional sleep problems. More than half of the respondents noted feeling tired in the morning. 通过自编习惯问卷,对师范类专科层次学生进行问卷调查,发现:大学生的学习、生活和交往习惯状况相互之间均呈现出正相关;在三个维度中大学生习惯较好的人数比例,总体偏低,其中学习习惯最低;在习惯三个维度得分上性别差异不显著,各学科之间差异不显著。说明加强大学生的养成教育是必要、迫切的,任务是艰巨的;大学生的习惯养成是一项系统工程,必须把大学生的习惯养成教育渗透于育人工作的各个方面和各个环节。  相似文献

High levels of circulating glucocorticoids in fetal animals are associated with inhibited development of the lateral processes of the maxilla, or upper jaw, as these bones grow toward midline union early in gestation. This inhibition can prevent fusion and lead to the formation of cleft palate. Mouse strains are differentially susceptible to this effect. These strains also differ in behavioral and physiological characteristics that are analogous to those we have observed in 2 temperamental groups of children, analogies that prompted the current study. Infant temperament was assessed using behavioral observation at 4 months, and the ratio of upper facial width (bizygomatic breadth across the cheekbones) to height of the head and face was measured at 14 and 21 months. High reactive 4-month-old infants, who are predisposed to becoming timid, inhibited toddlers, had smaller bizygomatic ratios (narrower faces) at both 14 and 21 months compared to their low reactive peers, who are predisposed to becoming outgoing, uninhibited children. Differences in facial width were modest though significant and not attributable to overall stature.  相似文献

大学生身体素质和健康状况关系社会总体健康水平,从对一所高职院校学生的调查情况看,反映学生身体素质的耐力、速度素质、力量素质、肺活量、体重指数等指标均不容乐观,达标者比例较低。大学生身体素质状况的成因较复杂,统计分析并未显示体育锻炼习惯和运动兴趣等因素对其有显著影响。学生对体育课的总体评价趋于良好,但多数学生平时很少参加体育锻炼,反映体育课与学生锻炼习惯之间的弱相关。高校体育课教学应强化"在场",发挥体育课对学生养成体育锻炼习惯的积极作用。  相似文献
