This essay aims to analyse the Input Hypothesis and its application in a Chinese college reading class.The first part will briefly introduce the main concepts and effectiveness of the Input Hypothesis and elaborate on its implication for practice.The second part will analyse and reflect the hypothesis in a reading class at university level according to the implication of the Input Hypothesis.     

The Application of Task-based Language Teaching to Oral English Class

Task-based language teaching(TBLT) refers to an approach based on the use of tasks as the core unit of planning and instruction in language teaching.The present research aims to explore the correlation of TBLT and students’ oral proficiency and the effectiveness of TBLT.During a one-term experiment,the author chooses 82 English majors in two natural classes as the controlled class and experimental class.With the help of qualitative approach and quantitative approach,it proves that TBLT is effective in improving students’ oral proficiency.     

Evaluation of Email Effectiveness in ESL Writing Classroom Guided by Second Language Acquisition Theory

The wide application of internet technology has provided the possibility to study and research new writing concepts and teaching modes in the classroom of English as a Second Language(ESL).In this trend,using email to assist English writing class has gained much attention in this field.This paper discusses the evaluation of email effectiveness with the implication of the Second Language Acquisition(SLA) theory.The result shows that the email assisted English writing class is a very salient method though it had its limitation somehow.

The exploration of student-centred approaches for the improvement of learning programming in higher education

The author has undergone a major shift in the way of teaching his undergraduate computer programming courses. In the classroom, the teacher＇s computer is connected to a splitter and a video projector that display the computer＇s screen to the entire class. Using this technology, the programming language itself is used live in class to help the students learn how to program. The students are learning in a context by far livelier than those of previous methods. Teaching computer programming is not achieved by lecturing and writing the program instructions on board or by displaying program instructions to the class on transparencies or slides of electronic presentations. With the implementation of student-centered approaches, the students migrated from the state of passive receivers to constructors of computer programming concepts. Students are coached to develop a sense of exploration, individuality and autonomous thinking. The enthusiasm for technology has been facilitating and supporting the learner-centered approach. Everyone in this approach is a learner, including the teacher.

Research shows that the less teachers speak in class, the more students talk. So English teacher talk determines, to some extent, whether the teaching in class is successful or not. After giving a brief introduction to teacher‘s role in English class, this paper analyzes the possible factors that affect teacher‘s organization and the students‘ involvement in class. It then suggests some improvements of teacher in order to better our teaching methodology.

Strategies for Effective Comments on Students’ Written Assignments

Abstract:Comments on students’assignments are important for English course.The loopholes in teachers’working schemes-comments of their students’written assignments are the clues around which the paper spreads.In the process of teaching,some English teachers pay so much attention to the contents taught in class but ignore the comments on students’written assignments.Consequently,it is not applicable for students to correct their mistakes in time and they probably make the same mistakes repeatedly.     

Optimization analysis of high temperature heat pump coupling to desiccant wheel air conditioning system

The high temperature heat pump and desiccant wheel(HTHPDW) system can make full use of heat released from the condenser of heat pump for DW regeneration without additional heat. In this study, DW operation in the HTHPDW system was investigated experimentally, and the optimization analysis of HTHPDW system was carried out. The performance of DW had influence on the dehumidification(evaluated by dehumidification and regeneration effectiveness) and cooling load(evaluated by thermal and adiabatic effectiveness). The results show that the enthalpy increase occurred in all the experiments. Compared to the isosteric heat, heat accumulation in the desiccant and matrix material and heat leakage from regeneration side to process side have greater influence on the adiabatic effectiveness. Higher regeneration temperature leads to lower adiabatic effectiveness that increases more cooling load of the system. When the regeneration temperature is 63℃, the maximal dehumidification effectiveness is 35.4% and the satisfied adiabatic effectiveness is 88%, which contributes to the optimal balance between dehumidification and cooling.     

The Teacher‘s Role in College English Reading Class

This paper analyses the reasons that led to the failure of traditional intensive readingclass and suggests three changes in the teacher＇s role in college English reading class.They are:First,to stimulate students＇enthusiasm for reading independently.Second,to ac-tivate the students＇prior knowledge of content to compensate for gaps both in linguisticknowledge and in the culturally based differences when processing written texts. Third,totake an active role in the development of foreign language reading skills     

Elementary Teachers＇ Perceptions About Implementation of Inclusive Education

The Disabilities Education Act was introduced in June, 1997 in the Turkish Education System. The Act states that schools have a duty to educate children with disabilities in general education classrooms. All children with disabilities should be educated with non-disabled children at their own age and have access to the general education curriculum. The philosophy of inclusive education aims at helping all children learn in regular classrooms. Children learn at their own pace and style within a nurturing learning environment because schools are important places for children to develop friendships and learn social skills. Children with and without disabilities learn together and from each other in inclusive classes. On the other hand, when children attend classes that reflect the similarities and differences of people in the real world, they learn to appreciate diversity. The aim of this study is to examine the perceptions of teachers about implementation of inclusive education in elementary schools. In order to collect data for this study, a questionnaire which consisted of eight open-ended questions was developed and administered to 66 elementary school teachers. The teachers worked at primary schools and taught 1-5 grades. They were asked to write their opinions and experiences about the implementation of inclusive education in the elementary schools. Primary school teachers generally have a positive attitude about inclusive education and its philosophical and psychological foundation. However, they express that they encounter some difficulties in implementing inclusive classrooms. A crowded classroom is a main obstacle to obtain desired objectives in educational activities. The levels of students＇ disability are related to effectiveness of classroom management. The effectiveness of inclusive education depends on not only the teachers＇ quality but also the school administrators＇. Some superintendents assess the effectiveness of teachers in inclusive and regular classrooms in the same way.     

Brief Discussion on Critical Writing and Consciousness-raising Activities for Chinese Students

Current literature has shown support to the combination of Consciousness-raising activity and teacher fronted teaching pedagogy.However,certain contextual analyze was absent in identify the problem in target classroom.In current L2 writing class,there is prevailing problem among Chinese students in acquiring’critical learning’.In this article,the writer tries to find the cause of this problem from students’ language input in traditional ESL grammar class,and to identify the cause to problematic critical writing among the target group.The analyze of the problem and the cause of lacking critical consciousness lead to possible solution of applying consciousness raising tasks in traditional writing class in China.     

Attributes of Affective E-learning Behavior： Emerging Issues Beyond Teaching and Learning

Many studies have focused on factors affecting e-learning and its effectiveness by comparing e-learning with face-to-face traditional classes. This study, however, aspires to contribute to the literature by exploring factors that contribute to student success in the e-learning environment. This study tested the assumption that a student＇s success in e-learning is a function of the specificities that are linked to this pedagogical model. It further postulated that these attributes are outcomes of an affective learning behavior. Data for this study were collected from a random sample of 486 respondents （close to 10% of the total student population） in a small university. The empirical data helped map out the hierarchy of the attributes that contribute to the development and experiences with e-learning. This study further provided suggestions to improve the areas that seem essential for a successful e-learning environment.     

Exploration and Practice of Improving College Students’ Speaking Competence through Group Discussion

The aim of English teaching is not only to make the students learn new words and grammar, answer multiple-choice questions to get good scores, but also to enhance the students’abilities of the integrated application of English, speaking and listening in particular. The ultimate goal of learning English is to use English to communicate with others in the future jobs and real life. However, the non-English majors have great trouble speaking English in class and in real life. Such ways as Socratic dialogues, cause analysis and questionnaire are used to investigate the reasons. In order to improve speaking ability, group discussion is used in class. In consequence, the students have more interest, motivation, courage and confidence in speaking English. Meanwhile, they have also established the concept of using what they learned in class, in practical work and real life.     

Robust exponential stability analysis of a larger class of discrete-time recurrent neural networks

The robust exponential stability of a larger class of discrete-time recurrent neural networks (RNNs) is explored in this paper. A novel neural network model, named standard neural network model (SNNM), is introduced to provide a general framework for stability analysis of RNNs. Most of the existing RNNs can be transformed into SNNMs to be analyzed in a unified way. Applying Lyapunov stability theory method and S-Procedure technique, two useful criteria of robust exponential stability for the discrete-time SNNMs are derived. The conditions presented are formulated as linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to be easily solved using existing efficient convex optimization techniques. An example is presented to demonstrate the transformation procedure and the effectiveness of the results.

The activity is intended to encourage students‘ autonomy, and to train students how to acquire various skills in language learning and communication. Through this activity, the students can get enough space to exert their autonomy, and the author can obtain her desired goals too: The center of teaching and learning shifts from the teacher to the students, that is, the students-centered teaching; given autonomous learning environment, students can learn more effectively; and students can acquire relevant abilities.     

Improving Oral English in Break Time in Junior High School

Overview on agent application to support collaborative learning interaction

Collaborative learning involves students working together to aid their learning and is considered an effective method to implement learning goal. However, it involves complicated processes such as have inconvenient assistance to manage the increasing demand for information and support extension of interaction and how to activate collaboration interaction and communication between different types of interactions. A collaborative learning model based on agent can improve learaing effectiveness and give good impact to learning process. This paper discusses the definition, classification and roles of agent to support collaborative learning interaction in E-learning. It overviews the rapidly use of agents to support collaborative learning and describes the types of interaction and communication tools to enhance interaction between all participants. We identify three types of major agents used in collaborative learning interaction; interface agent, information and internet agent, and collaborative agent.
