CHINESE CULTURE SHINES IN RUSSIA

Editor＇s words： Co-initiated by Chinese President Hu Jintao and Russian President Putin, the Year of Russia and the Year of China were launched in 2006 and 2007 respectively. This is the largest cultural event ever held in each other＇s country in the history of China-Russia exchange. DRAGON WELL GREEN THE AT WEST LAKE

Dragon well is a prominent type of green tea produced at the West Lake resort where the village of dragon well is surrounded by undulating hills and winding brooks. RED ARMY MINT AT JINGGANG MOUNTAIN

The Red Army Mint is located at a small village in Jinggang Mountain where the Red Army led by Chinese Communist Party was founded. It is a traditional threerow Hakka structure with gray-tile helm roofs and yellow-painted exterior walls.The signboard ＂Red Army Mint＂ inscribed bv General Xiao Ke is hanged on the plain and old-fashioned gate.     

CHINESE ARTS SPARKS FEVER AT CERVANTES FESTIVAL

Cervantes International Festival, the largest cultural event in Latin America, embraced its 35th session on October 3 in the historic city of Guanajuato, Mexico. China was invited as the guest country of the annual festival this year and regaled the audience with diverse performances and exhibitions. At the opening evening gala taking place in the city＇s Frog Plaza singers and dancers from the Chinese province of Jilin staged fascinating programs, all with distinctive Chinese flavors and winning lots of ovations. Chinese assistant cultural minister Ding Wei, senior officials from Guanajuato as well as many other distinguished guests watched opening performances.[第一段]     

GUIZHOU WAX PRINTING MASTERPIECES DISPLAYED AT NATIONAL GALLERY

The exhibition on wax printing masterpieces of Guizhou Province was recently held in the National Art Museum of China. A total of 66masterpieces chosen from some 400 wax printing works of Guizhou Province were on display. These works feature elegant colors, beautiful patterns and cultural richness, representing the top level and artistic diversity of Guizhou＇s wax printing art.

PORCERLAIN TRADE OVER THE MARIME SILK ROADS IN THE SONG DYNASTY

Over the sweep of history, oceanic boats have been recognized as proof of the scientific evolution of mankind. During the Song-Yuan period, China had witnessed growing exchanges with other nations. A large number of Chinese emigrated abroad and brought advanced products of China to local people. At the same time, exotic treasures and produces continued to import into China, remarkably promoting the development of China. In the past two decades, sunken boats of ancient China continued to be discovered in Chinese seas, testifying to prosperous maritime trade of past dynasties. ＂South China Sea No. 1＂ and ＂Huaguang Corral＂, discovered in Taishan, Guangdong and Xisha Islands respectively, are the two sunken ships of the Song Dynasty that have attracted nationwide attention of both archeologists and general public alike.

THE MYSTERY OF SANXINGOUI CULTURE

Stories about Sanxingdui Culture published in the magazine before have caught readers＇ great interest. So far there are three major viewpoints about the origin of this mysterious culture. Some experts note that unearthed artifacts in Sanxingdui were legacies of the ancient Shu Kingdom and have nothing to do with foreign cultures. But since no written records have been left about this culture existing more than three thousand years ago, those who support this hypothesis have to resort to a smattering of clues in ancient documents of ensuing periods as well as legendary stories. A rivaling opinion argues that this culture has some relation with the ancient civilizations of Western Asia, Central Asia as well as Aegean Sea. It is believed that Ancient Egyptians already knew how to produce bronzes in the period between 3 800 and 3 500 BC and it is quite possible that the technology was imported to China in some way. In recent years, however, some scholars, based on extensive studies, assert that Sanxingdui is a result of cultural exchange and assimilation. They hold that some tribe lost its way during the great migration of the ancient India-lran tribes and misled itself to Sanxingdui. The tribe settled there and developed a culture that blends elements from both ancient central China and ancient India-lran areas.[第一段]     

THE ART OF CLAMP-RESIST DYEING

On October 30, 2007, Chen Songyao took out the two flower-print boards stored in his closet for years and to his surprise, strong herbal fragrance from the board made him so refreshed. After more than one decade of stand-by,these two old print boards were again used for producing Chinese blue calico in the clamp-resist dyeing.     

PART IV: THE MULTICULTURAL LIBRARY

The changing demographic representation of students in United States public schools has significant implications for colleges of education. These changes make it imperative for colleges of education to produce candidates that possess the knowledge, skills, and sensitivity to deal with diverse student populations. To do so effectively, teacher educators would have to understand the meaning of cultural diversity and how to effectively integrate it into all facets of their teacher education programs. Such integration processes will include helping candidates to become more diversity mature (that is, to be comfortable with who they are) so that they can develop the self-efficacy that will propel them to contribute to the goals of a multicultural society. This article suggests the systems approach based on the systems analysis theory as a model for integrating cultural diversity in colleges of education. The process of systems analysis consists of a sequence of activities that includes (a) definition of the problem, (b) determination of the objectives and criteria for performance, (c) examination of alternative plans, and (d) evaluating the chosen alternative in light of resulting outcomes from the process. Using the systems approach to integrate cultural diversity will lead to a comprehensive assessment of current diversity efforts in individual colleges of education. Integrating cultural diversity will also entail collaboration among the systems and subsystems within and outside the college community, and finally, it will lead to the designing of a cultural diversity plan that takes advantage of the values inherent in the material and human resources possessed by the institution. This article challenges educators to examine their commitment to promoting cultural diversity and offers a plan to make their programs more multicultural in nature.

The ten national permanent museum exhibitions of the year were announced on the World Museum Day on May 18, co-organized by China Museum Association, Xi＇an Municipality and China Heritage News. The permanent exhibition ＂The Art of Black and White＂ in Cizhou Kiln Museum won this annual award.     

THE CULTURAL INDENTITY OF CHINA CONTEMPORARY ART

A 36-person delegation from the US President＇s Committee on the Arts and the Humanity paid an official visit to China from June 5 to 13 at the invitation of Chinese Cultural Ministry. On June 10, the delegation attended a seminar on the cultural identity of Chinese contemporary art chaired by Director Fan Di＇an in the National Art Museum of China.
