中国图书馆学史论

The history of Chinese library science is a subject on the study of the history of the emergence and the development of Chinese library science, which is within the range of theoretical library science. It falls into four historical periods,i.e. the ancient history of Chinese library science (before 1840),the modern history of it (1840-1919); the contemporary history of it (1919-1949)and the history of present age(1949 up to now). The full text of the paper consists of five parts: the objects, contents, stages of history,significances and principles of the study.ref.8

From a point of view of academic thinking, the paper puts forward and expounds the humane tradition that runs library science through, and also the technical tradition that runs the information science through. Moreover, the paper holds that the integration of the humane tradition with the technical tradition is not only the way forward for the development of receiprocal replenishment of the said two departments of science but also the major trend of the present-day development of information control. 33 ref.

The author has put forward an mathematical formula for defining the basis of developing library work of town and township libraries. The formula shows that the cultural demand coefficient of towns and townships are determined by the annual social total output, the per capita, per annum income, the total number of population, the rate of non-illiteracy, the land area and the amendment value. In order to show an object scene of the cultural demand of various towns and townships and the conditions of library work coordination,the author brings forward the cultual demand coefficient and the distribution illustration of the sample variable probability of the library holdings,thus the cultural demand curve is comparable to that of the existing holdings.1 illus.
