Troops to Teachers: Future Implications for Teacher Educators

Teacher educators will soon be confronted with the prospect of a relatively large number of former members of the United States Armed Forces seeking to make a transition to the profession of education. With support from the federal government in the form of the Troops-to-Teachers program as well as various state supplements, America's colleges and universities will be charged with ensuring that these aspiring teachers will be trained properly. It will soon be imperative that teacher education professionals recognize and effectively deal with the unique challenges related to this coming reality.     

灾后复原力及其干预的研究综述

灾后复原力（Resilience）领域近年受到心理学界的关注,尤其在5．12汶川地震后,对这一领域的关注更加突出。此前的研究表明,灾难性事件之后,个体所具有的复原力远比之前想像的要普遍,即使处于PTSD症状明显升高的高暴露情境下,具有较好复原力的个体仍不低于1／3。影响灾后复原力的因素包括个体的生理、心理因素和社会因素等。灾后进行心理干预可以帮助个体提高复原力,这些干预包括制订合理的早期干预计划、协助个体有效利用家庭资源和社会支持,以及有针对性的个别咨询等。     

中小学教师心理辅导培训的回溯

目前中小学的心理健康教育已引起社会各界的普遍关注,亦取得了一定的可喜成绩。要进一步提高心理健康教育的效果,决定于教师的心理辅导素质。真正影响心理辅导的是教师个人头脑中的“内隐理论”,即“理念”,它随时随地以无意识的方式影响着教师的心理辅导思维和策略。回溯中小学教师心理辅导培训模式后发现,传统的讲授式培训难以使心理辅导教师将“所倡导的理论”顺利转化为“所应用的理论”,难以使教师形成科学的心理辅导理念,无法充分有效地提高教师的心理辅导素质。只有通过体验和反思的培训方法,教师才能形成自己的、科学的心理辅导理念,才能充分有效地提高自己的心理辅导素质,最后促进心理辅导实践工作。     

特殊教育教师的积极心理品质及其对结果变量的影响

为了了解特殊教育教师的积极心理品质及其对结果变量的影响,本研究对114名特教教师进行了调查,结果如下:(1)特殊教育教师的敬业水平为中等程度,三个分维度的得分顺序为奉献水平最高、专注次之,活力水平最低。(2)男教师和女教师的总体敬业水平和各维度的水平不存在显著的统计学差异。(3)10年教龄以上教师在活力、奉献和专注三个维度上的得分显著低于5年以下的教师。(4)敬业对教师的生活满意、工作满意和工作绩效均有正向的影响,对离职意向有负向影响。     

The Efficacy of Preschool Developmental Indicators as a Screen for Early Primary School-Based Literacy Interventions

Literacy success lays the foundation for children's later educational, health, and well-being outcomes. Thus, early identification of literacy need is vital. Using data from New Zealand's national preschool health screening program for fiscal years 2010/2011–2014/2015, demographic and health variables from 255,090 children aged 4 years were related to whether they received a literacy intervention in early primary school. Overall, 20,652 (8.1%) children received an intervention. Time-to-event analysis revealed that all considered variables were significantly related to literacy intervention (all p < .01), but the full model lacked reasonable predictive power for population screening purposes (Harrell's c-statistic = .624; 95% CI [.618, .629]). Including more direct literacy measures in the national screening program is likely needed for improvement.

Teacher Educators,Student Teachers and Biographical Influences: implications for teacher education

The importance of acknowledging the influence of biography in understanding teachers’ work is well established in recent literature. Drawing upon data arising from a study of teacher educators and their students, we consider the influence of biography on the work of teacher educators and student teachers. We draw comparisons between the ways in which they make connections with their demographic characteristics, their personal and educational histories and their understanding of their work. We evaluate the data against two major positions in the literature on biography and draw some implications for teacher education.     

Effectiveness of the Clinical Supervision Strategy as a Tool for Improving Teaching Quality: Perceptions of South African School-Based Managers and Educators

Research was undertaken to find ways of resolving implementation challenges of supervision and evaluation systems by examining the perceptions of South African school-based managers and educators regarding the effectiveness of the clinical supervision strategy as a tool for improving the quality of teaching in compliance with the total quality management (TQM) principle of empowerment as related to the integrated quality management system (IQMS). The article reports on part of the findings of a formal study designed to investigate the effectiveness of the developmental supervision model as a tool for improving the quality of teaching in Gauteng, South Africa The findings from using a mixed method approach, comprising a quantitative phase in the form of questionnaires and a qualitative phase in the form of three focus group interviews, indicated that the clinical supervision strategy complied with the TQM principle of empowerment, which was perceived to have a positive influence on the quality of teaching. In contrast, the IQMS evaluation process was perceived to lack compliance with empowerment due to characteristics related to the traditional inspection approaches to professional development.

目前,我国中小学教师队伍总体上还不能适应新时期教育改革发展的需要,尤其是农村教师队伍整体素质亟待提高.持续不断地对教师进行继续教育,无疑是改变上述现状的必由途径.然而,采用何种模式方能提高继续教育效果,使其达到预期的目标?本文在进行三年多的相关课题研究与实践的基础上,提出了"基于网络的校本培训"这一教师继续教育模式,并从理论、内容和操作方法等方面加以阐述.     

Preparing Teachers for Success with English Language Learners: Challenges and Opportunities for University Tesol Educators

This study investigates the role that a socioculturally grounded university English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program played in shaping teachers' work with English Language Learners (ELLs). Subjects were a group of teachers at “Wheatland Elementary School,” a newly designated ESOL site for a school district in Kansas. From an analysis of teachers' comments on course evaluations, written class assignments, formal observations of their post-coursework instruction, and a questionnaire administered at the onset and conclusion of an 18 credit-hour program, we examined changes in teachers' (a) attitudes toward ELLs, (b) beliefs about how children acquire second languages, and (c) knowledge of pedagogical practices that promote successful language and content learning. Our findings suggest that well-planned university programs influence even very experienced teachers and those who may be ambivalent toward ESOL endorsement mandates, and policies that limit the requirements for those seeking state ESOL endorsement may be ill advised.

School-Based Programs for Increasing Connectedness and Reducing Risk Behavior: A Systematic Review

School connectedness has a significant impact on adolescent outcomes, including reducing risk-taking behavior. This paper critically examines the literature on school-based programs targeting increased connectedness for reductions in risk taking. Fourteen articles describing seven different school-based programs were reviewed. Programs drew on a range of theories to increase school connectedness, and evaluations conducted for the majority of programs demonstrated positive changes in school connectedness, risk behavior, or a combination of the two. Many of the reviewed programs involved widespread school system change, however, which is frequently a complex and time-consuming task. Future research is needed to examine the extent of intervention complexity required to result in change. This review also showed a lack of consistency in the definitions and measurement of connectedness as well as few mediation analyses testing assumptions of impact on risk-taking behavior through increases in school connectedness. Additionally, this review revealed very limited evaluation of the elements of multicomponent programs that are most effective in increasing school connectedness and reducing adolescent risk taking.
