Technological change in publishing comes in three forms: (1) software applications intended to increase efficiency of existing processes; (2) entirely new publishing opportunities, and (3) pressures exerted on the system of publishing. For educators and publishers, this poses a challenge. Teaching computer applications is often indistinguishable from mere skills-training, and may be inappropriate for most professional publishing education programs. The study of possible business opportunities may be impractically abstract, and consequently may be viewed with indifference by professional publishers. The study of systemic change requires a more inclusive definition of scope than is enjoyed by most academic and in-house education programs. In every case, fostering an understanding of the context and process of change itself is crucial for meaningful education. The author uses examples based in traditional scholarly publishing as illustrations. Czeslaw Jan Grycz was previously design and production manager of the University of California Press. In France, publishing education has developed through the efforts of industry, labor, the universities, technical schools, and government agencies. This article reviews the history of publishing education and describes current postgraduate programs. The bibliography lists the basic French periodicals that cover publishing. Nadia Laham received an M.A. in French Studies from Carleton University. She continued her studies at the Information and Communication Sciences Institute at the University of Bordeaux III, where she completed her doctoral thesis on the evolution of book production as an indicator of sociocultural mentality. Continuing education is becoming essential to the publishing profession. In this article, Ann Cowan describes the advantages of using university programs for noncredit education to support courses in publishing. These programs permit access to the resources of the industry and enable the university to serve publishers’ educational needs. Ann Cowan is associate dean of Continuing Studies at Simon Fraser University and codirector of the Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing. A graduate of the University of Toronto, she completed her master’s thesis onThe Canadian Forum at Carleton University. She was a general editor at the National Museum of Man before moving to Vancouver, where she initiated the Writing and Publishing Program at Simon Fraser University. 为探究如何做好出版专业技术人员继续教育工作,建设高素质专业化出版人才队伍,文章基于《出版专业技术人员继续教育规定》提出了关于深入贯彻落实文件精神、优化出版专业技术人员继续教育的五点建议,以期为相关部门的具体实施提供参考。建议内容包括:提升政治素养,强化“服务大局”意识;开展需求调研与分析,注重继续教育的针对性;整合多方力量,形成教育资源统筹新格局;分级分类培训内容,统筹规划继续教育课程;综合运用多种教学方法,实现继续教育形式多样化。  相似文献

近年来,我国出版高等教育在迅速发展的同时,与业界的期望和要求反而日益疏远,专业教育的改革已是迫在眉睫。针对这一现实,本文首先明确了新时期出版教育的目标与原则,强调出版教育人才培养目标的确定要正确处理“专与博”、“掌握知识与发展能力”的关系,指出教育发展“规模适度、优化结构、保证质量、追求效益”的战略原则。其次,在宏观层面提出出版教育的改革思路,即:明确学科定位、整合学科体系,人才培养层次清晰、目标明确,课程设置规范化、科学化。最后,以微观视角对出版教育的改革从合作办学、课程体系、培养方案三个方面提出了具体的构想。  相似文献

This article chronicles the rapid expansion since 1990 of research within archival science and characterizes contemporary archival research culture. It examines the role and state of key factors that have led to the development of the existing research infrastructure, such as growth in doctoral education, forums for presenting and publishing research, the numbers and size of graduate archival education programs, availability of diverse funding for research, transdisciplinary and international research collaborations, and application of innovative research methods and tools appropriate for investigating increasingly complex and wide-ranging research questions. An Appendix articulates and names archival research methods, including those derived and adapted from other disciplines, with a view to adding to the “literary warrant” for archival research methods, promoting the rigorous application of research design and methods, and providing sources for the teaching of research methods for professional and research careers. The article concludes with recommendations about how to sustain and extend the emerging research front.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 在学术出版与传播机制日益复杂的背景下,学术出版素养成为研究人员不可或缺的技能。美国高校图书馆的学术出版素养教育有一定成功经验,能够为中国的学术出版素养教育提供指导。[方法/过程] 以美国排名前10位的高校图书馆和中国40所"双一流"高校图书馆为调查对象,对这些图书馆开展的学术出版素养教育实践进行调查,主要从教育形式与教育内容方面进行比较,分析中美学术出版素养教育的异同。[结果/结论] 对我国高校图书馆学术出版素养教育的启示是:深化教育合作,促进学术出版素养教育的不断完善;选择适当的教育形式,兼顾教育的系统性与针对性;针对学术出版需求,构建全方位的教育内容体系。  相似文献

In the Greek publishing industry, tradition and the desire for innovation go hand in hand. The industry is influenced by European developments in publishing and bookselling in terms of book promotion methods, the role of chain bookstores and the impact of information technology. Greece shares the features of other small book markets in Europe, whilst retaining the individuality defined by the Greek language and the country’s cultural and social conditions. This article provides an overview of the publishing industry in Greece through a review of the relevant literature and the available statistics. The paper investigates the development of education for the publishing industry in China in the past twenty years, with a focus on the middle and late 1990s. In the introduction, the overall situation of the publishing industry and book sales is presented. The author discusses the current situation of education for publishing, consisting of higher education, mid-level education and professional training. In the main body of the paper, he also describes publishing majors in various universities and courses they offer, and analyzes the problems with the courses as well as counter measures from the publishing industry.
