Strategies for Implementing Marriage and Family Counselor Training in Counselor Education Programs

Three models for implementing marriage and family counseling training are presented: community counseling, interdisciplinary, and Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Related conceptual and pragmatic issues are identified and discussed.     

A Constructivist Perspective for Integrating Spirituality Into Counselor Training

Significant efforts have been made in recent years to integrate training in spirituality and religion into counselor training programs. This article highlights issues that may be encountered by some trainees and suggests that constructivist teaching principles be used to mitigate these concerns. The authors present recommendations and activities in the context of the Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling (2009) Spiritual Competencies.     

Integrating Implicit Bias Into Counselor Education

The author reviews the empirical and theoretical literature on implicit bias as it relates to counselor education. Counselor educators can integrate implicit bias into the concepts of multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skill. Knowledge about implicit bias includes its theoretical explanation, measurement, and impact on counseling. Awareness of implicit bias requires specialized assessment independent of self‐reported bias. Skills related to implicit bias include intentionality in thought and behavior and long‐term commitment to changing biased thought patterns.     

Integrating Gay Issues Into Counselor Education

Human rights in recent years have begun to include the rights of gays whose sexual orientation should be irrelevant to jobs, housing, and public accommodation. The old sickness theory has been discarded and the morality of same-sex orientation championed. But many counselors-in-training have not been helped to demythologize homosexuality, and this article presents ways to reeducate about gays to help counselors-in-training be better able to work with their counselees with this topic. The primary method suggested is helping students get acquainted personally with gays.     

Computer-Assisted Training of the DSM-III-R in Counselor Education

This article reviews various computer programs that can be used as part of a comprehensive curriculum to train counselors on how to better understand and use the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III-R; American Psychiatric Association, 1987).     

Marriage and Family Therapy Within Counselor Education

Although the caseloads of mental health professionals usually reflect a high percentage of marital and family problems, few professional counselors have had any formal marriage and family therapy training. Departments of counselor education could expand to provide this training, and thus meet a need and an expressed interest of counseling students. This article describes one counselor education department's response to the need for comprehensive doctoral training in marriage and family therapy.     

The Rural School Counselor: Relationships Among Rural Sociology,Counselor Role,and Counselor Training

Recommendations for the training of rural school counselors are derived from characteristics of the rural American population and the resultant role of the school counselor.     

Integrating Religion and Spirituality Into Counselor Education: Barriers and Strategies

Despite a professionally recognized need for training in religion/spirituality, literature indicates that religious and spirituality issues continue to be inconsistently addressed in counselor education. Ten experts were asked to identify potential barriers to integrating religion and spirituality into counselor education and indicate strategies for overcoming these obstacles. Barriers included a lack of information and a lack of personal interest or relevance, and strategies included continuing education, heightened awareness of self and others, and curriculum‐specific recommendations. Implications for counselor training and recommendations for future research are discussed.     

The Use of Film in Marriage and Family Counselor Education

The authors introduce an innovative technique that can be included in marriage and family counselor education curricula. Feature films are discussed as an educational technique for the instruction and development of perceptual, conceptual, and executive counseling skills. They also outline the advantages for using film in counselor education, present various strategies for using them in the classroom, and offer examples of how they have integrated movies into introductory marriage and family courses.     

Counselor Training in a School Center

This article describes the creation of a partnership between a local school district and a university counselor education department to train counselors while providing counseling services using counselor trainees. The partnership resulted in a counseling center located in the school, which serves the school and community and is staffed by the university. The concept of a training center constructed by a school district and staffed by trainees and university faculty to serve students and people in the community is unique. This article explores the rationale for the community school-based, training-service center and the steps leading to its establishment. Also discussed are the physical structure and the operation of the center and the advantages and problems.

鉴于多元化社会容易滋生影响小学生心理疾病的负面信息,因此,有必要探索一种科学、有效的方法来防范小学生心理疾病。以家校合作为研究对象,着重探讨其在小学心理健康教育中的实施策略,以期为相关教育工作提供参考。     

论高校辅导员心理健康及自我调适

由于高校辅导员的工作职责不断拓宽、职业认同和个人发展的局限、社会挑战与高校保障机制的缺失等方面的原因,使高校辅导员容易产生心理健康问题.本文充分认识到高校辅导员心理健康对大学生心理健康教育的重要性,着重强了调辅导员对自我心理健康的维护和调适.     

Family Sculpting in the Training of Marriage and Family Counselors

This article describes how family sculpting, grounded in Experiential Family Counseling, can be used as a training technique in marriage and family counselor training programs.     

初中生家庭亲密度、适应性和心理健康的特点及关系研究

为了考察初中生家庭亲密度和适应性的特点、心理健康的特点及家庭亲密度和适应性与心理健康之间的关系,我们从河北省石家庄市随机抽取1所普通中学的190名学生,其中男94名,女96名.采用家庭亲密度和适应性量表、中学生心理健康量表进行测评,并进行有关的统计分析.结果发现初中生的家庭亲密度表现突出,而适应性表现不足.男女初中生在家庭的亲密度、适应性上没有差别.初中生家庭类型分布均衡,平衡型家庭所占比例最大,中间型次之,极端型最少.初中生整体心理健康水平良好,其中女生比男生更易产生恐怖感.初中生心理健康与亲密度、适应性以及总分均有非常显著的负相关.     

Research Priorities for Mental Health Counseling With Youth: Implications for Counselor Preparation,Professional Development,and Research

Counselors encounter the needs of youth (3–17 years) in a variety of settings; however, outside of school counseling, the profession faces a lack of preparation, professional development, and research focused on mental health practice with youth. Using the Delphi method, 12 counselor educators and 15 practicing counselors were polled regarding research priorities for mental health counseling with youth. Research that considers how varying developmental stages and systems (e.g., families, schools, communities) affect the mental health of youth was identified as a priority. Implications for counselor preparation, professional development, and research are offered on the basis of these results.

在时间管理的心理学研究领域中,许多研究是描述性的而少干预性;对大学生研究较多而对初中生研究较少;量的研究多,质的研究少。时间管理研究是一个富有生命力的课题,对教育具重要意义,它能在一定程度上改变只重知识教学而轻能力培养的片面教育观,是学生学习技能训练的新途径,是学校心理健康教育的新视角。
