西方人视野中的澳门与广州

17—19世纪,澳门以及与它密不可分的广州在中西关系史中占据重要地位。这个时代的西方人有过不少对亲历事件的记述。它们虽然零乱,却是第一手的重要资料,又不见诸于中国官私史书。本文介绍了几位当时西方的官方代表、商人和旅行家的记实性著作。它们都令人信服地证明了澳粤于此期间在中西关系史扮演的重要角色。     

先秦两汉时期长城地带经济开发得失探究

长城地带地处农、牧业两种生产方式和文化属性相互交错、碰撞的敏感地区.考古发现揭示了内蒙古中南部长城地带春秋战国以来文化特征的演进和变化过程,反映出典型的汉式城邑及墓葬葬俗从无到有、由少到多,证明先秦两汉时期长城地带经历了历史上最重要的汉化过程,奠定了该地区统一于中原政权这一政治格局的基础.长城地带经济开发的动态过程生动阐述了因中原政府行政介入而实行强制汉化的历史进程及其正、负面影响.     

明清时期家族兴衰与地方社会的整合——以寨卜昌村王氏家族为典型个案

本文试图借助历史人类学的方法,将正史记载与民间文献、口述史相结合,重构并解读明清时期河南怀庆寨卜昌村王氏家族的兴衰历史,以及围绕这一家族发生的一系列社会事件.王氏家族的发展历程,是一个首先由松散的"地缘"组织衍生至严格的"血缘"组织,继而由整合地方社会资源到进入国家权威体系的过程.这一发展历程反映了明清怀庆乃至华北移民社会"人口重建"与"认同重构"的特质性、华北地方社会与国家之间相互倚靠与制约的关系,乃至可能存在于更大范围内的国家与地方之间或合作或冲突的互动关系.

前七子乐府诗制作与明中期的民间化运动

前七子通过向古代学习的口号而对唐以前的诗歌做了全面的发掘 ,含该各类诗体 ,又在每类诗体的习效中包容有特定的意义指向。过去对七子派的非议 ,往往首先从创作学的角度摘其“模仿主义”之弊 ,而不顾其他角度的分析与探测 ,以至也无法明其模仿的真实企意。然而 ,经由对前七子乐府诗的疏解 ,则可看到在对这一诗体模拟的背后所寄寓的丰富社会要求 ,及对明中期始的民间化运动所作的积极反应。由于前七子的乐府诗创作是体现其模仿论的一个实践性极例 ,因而对之意义的澄清 ,将有助于以一种新的眼光来看待其复古主义观     

Efficiency and Inefficiency in the Ranking in Competitions: the Case of the Queen Elisabeth Music Contest

The Queen Elisabeth Contest is one of the most prestigious competitions in classical music. For both the artists who participate and for the public, it is important that the ranking of the finalists be affected as little as possible by exogenous factors relating to the organisation of the competition. Still, it is impossible to control for all contingencies. Thus, the ranking can be expected to deviate from that obtained in a hypothetical full-information assessment process. As such, the ranking may be unfair to the candidates and inefficient in providing information to the consumer. Deviations from the full-information ideal may result from self-selection of candidates, from positive information at the margin, and from differences in circumstances. Analysing data on all piano and violin versions of the Contest over the period 1956–1999, we find strong evidence of biases in the rankingprocess. Confirming previous research, we find that musicians who perform later in the final week or later on a given day in this week (on average) obtain a better classification. Further, in the piano competitions women obtain lower rankings and, prior to 1990, finalists from the Soviet Union obtained higherrankings than average. The jury appreciates innovation in the sense that musicians who perform a more recently composed concerto obtain a higher rank. Finally – especiallyfor violin – the candidate's decision to perform a popular concerto leadsto a lower ranking.

唐宋诗词固有诗情画意相依之美,而诗词语言中颜色字的运用,则蕴含着诗意修辞具体而微的艺术匠心。郑因北先生旧文四篇的论旨,关涉视觉美感、颜色互补、词语递嬗,循此而进,再作细读精解,围绕欧阳修《再至汝阴三绝句》其一,发隐于修辞“冠顶格”格式之外,引入西方理代色彩学理论,结合具体作品及其作者的实际,就诗词与色彩的相关问题展开具体深入的讨论。     

Power and Performativity in the Creation of the UK Fishing-Rights Market

Judith Butler's work on performativity takes an explicitly Foucauldian approach to politics. The economic performativity literature, in comparison, has been criticised for failing to foreground power. This paper uses a case study of market creation in UK marine fisheries to suggest, after Butler, ways in which a Foucauldian analysis of the exercise of power can inform our understanding of economic performativity.     

NATO and the Strengthening of Western Science in the Post-Sputnik Era

In the immediate post-Sputnik era, the member governments of theAtlantic community were deeply concerned about the growingquantity and quality of scientists and engineers in the SovietUnion, which threatened to outstrip the supply of manpower in theUnited States and Western Europe. One of the main tasks of theNATO Science Committee, formally established in December 1957,was to redress this educational imbalance. Its preferredinstruments were international scientific exchange and trainingin fields of basic science. This paper charts the actionsundertaken by this committee to strengthen Western science,exploring its achievements, and analysing why it failed to couplethe research it supported to the interests of the defenceestablishment.
