In this article, two in-service English teachers and two preservice English teachers, who participated in a shared mentoring relationship during the studentteaching semester, share their experiences, conflicts, and how they were resolved. The authors provide first-person narratives of all four teachers and suggestions for improving mentoring experiences for both mentor teachers and student teachers. Important issues addressed include territoriality of classroom spaces, students, decision making, and time. The authors provide suggestions for improving communication, use of shared spaces, and planning. 相似文献

Multimedia cases are perceived to be a means of bridging the gap between theory and practice in teacher education. However, little is known about how prospective teachers actually learn with these cases. In this paper, we examine how multimedia cases can stimulate reflective thought among preservice teachers. Gestalt psychology is employed as a theoretical lens to examine how seven preservice teachers work with a multimedia case. Data were collected by means of audiotaped work-aloud protocols, interviews and questionnaires. Results indicate that preservice teachers remain at low levels of abstraction of their ideas about teaching as a result of case examination. Directed assignments and collaboration among prospective teachers were a useful, but not always necessary, means of stimulating discussion on the multimedia case. The study leads to the conclusion there is still much to be learned about how prospective teachers interact with multimedia case, particularly about how such cases might stimulate reflective practice. 相似文献

近些年来,教师教育中的反思性实践一直受到诸多学者的关注。基于此角度,针对师范生公费培养中存在的师范生报考动机功利化取向明显、入校学习动机不坚定、从教意愿不强烈等问题进行分析。为规避这些问题,首先提出公费师范生培养过程中教育理念、课程理念、教学理念的转型。其次,基于社会发展和理念转型,提出公费师范生培养的新诉求,即培养反思性实践家。最后,提出将公费师范生培养为反思性实践家的策略。 相似文献

Abstract This article describes a computer program, “Multi‐Map,” designed to introduce experimentation and exploration in the precollege mathematics curriculum. The central activity in MultiMap involves the creation of planar maps which may be applied interactively to graphical objects. The maps may be affine or nonlinear; and (among other activities) they can easily be edited, composed, or applied iteratively. We outline MultiMap's interface and basic functionality, describe a wide variety of exploratory mathematical activities that can be undertaken with the program, and present some observations on the use of MultiMap in the classroom. 相似文献

The study reported in this article examines the effects of training, feedback, and on–the–job coaching on the quality of staff performance. Forty staff members in three units of a psychiatric hospital were trained in a new system for writing patient progress notes. Initial training (Training 1) included a) establishing the importance of progress notes, b) rules and format for good notes, and c) examples of properly written notes. Training 1 resulted in slight improvement in performance over baseline. A second training program (Training 2), including examples and non–examples of well–written notes, was followed by a substantial increase in quality of staff notes. The quality of notes reached desired levels only after a feedback component was added in which the trainer posted data showing overall quality of notes and provided individual coaching to staff members regarding quality of group notes. We conclude from these results that the quality of staff performance of an organizationally significant task can be improved by a combination of training, feedback, and on–the–job coaching. Training using both examples and non–examples of properly completed tasks is superior to training using examples only. Training followed by feedback and on–the–job coaching is superior to training alone. The results support our conclusion that omitting a basic element of performance technology will yield low quality performance. 相似文献
