大学贷款的现实和未来走向分析

在中国高等教育大众化的过程中,大学向银行大幅贷款,是高等教育发展史上的一个特殊现象。目前,随着贷款规模的日益庞大和高等教育规模增长的放缓,大学面临着严峻的还本付息的压力,已经影响到了教育质量。大学还贷面临着不确定性的未来。     

The future of the liberal university in the era of the global knowledge grab

This paper explores the implications of thedevelopment and extension of national andinternational intellectual property regimes (IPRs) forthe liberal university. It argues that dynamics setinto motion by IPRs are eroding the university'sability to reproduce itself in two ways. On the onehand, IPRs are reducing the university's ability todraw on and to replenish the intellectual commonswhich is one fundamental precondition of its survival.IPRs are also preventing academics from fulfillingtheir public service mission which may undermine thepopular support for the university that is alsocrucial to its survival. These two mutuallyreinforcing developments are making it increasinglydifficult for the liberal university to continue on asit has. Indeed, they are producing a qualitativetransformation of the institution that will be verycostly to society, in both economic and social terms.The paper argues that although current developmentspose very serious threats to the liberal university'sfuture, there is still time to intervene in order topreempt or to alter them. The paper concludes with adiscussion of strategies that may enable the liberaluniversity to survive, if not flourish, in the currentcontext. In particular, a strategy of pursuing broadIP exemptions for universities isadvocated.     

Waiting for Boyer: A Cross-Generational Dialogue

The following is a one-act play containing a dialogue between two physical education and sport science professors (Metzler, 1994) as they travel back from the 1995 NAPEHE Conference, “Beyond Scholarship Reconsidered: The Mosaic of Scholarship in Physical Education.” The play's dialogue is drawn from three major sources: the authors' biographies, their personal opinions regarding Scholarship Reconsidered, and the published professional literature in physical education and the sport sciences. The characters represent two cohorts in faculty: those who are early in their careers and those who have canied out the first half of their careers under the current model of scholarship in higher education.     

Which future,university or bureaucracy?

This article is critical of major institutions of higher education because they often establish criteria for rewarding professors and organizational processes that have little to do with developing a real university. The author argues for the reconstruction of universities based on values of freedom and responsibility. A model based on such values, a creative university is developed and contrasted with educational bureaucracies. Arguments are given to favor the creative university as our best hope for the future.     

Boyer in the Middle: Second Generation Challenges to Emerging Scholarship

This article reports on an examination of the distinctive second-generation challenges and opportunities faced by an early institutional adopter of the Boyer model of scholarship. Following the first cohort of faculty to be reviewed for tenure and promotion based on these criteria, we report the results of a survey designed to determine the perceptions of faculty and administrators of the degree to which emerging forms of scholarship had been integrated into the university culture including factors such as institutional identity, support structures, and faculty participation. This case study sheds light on the process of adaptation at this single institution and provides glimpses of how cultural change might occur across higher education.     

浅析大学英语现状及未来走向

随着社会经济的持续发展和中国对国际事务的更多参与,对国际化专业人才的需求越来越大,英语已成为对外交流不可或缺的工具。但我国大学英语普遍存在"费时多,收效低"的问题,毕业后的学生无法适应用英语进行专业内交流或完成专业任务。所以中国大学英语已进入历史转型时期,大学英语的基础英语教学任务已逐渐弱化。本文将在描述大学英语现状的基础上,分析其未来走向。     

综合大学农林科类专业结构优化的改革探索与发展展望

本文总结了合并后广西大学农林科专业的专业结构调整、专业人才培养模式、课程体系和教学内容、方法和手段的改革实践,分析了加入WTO后中国农业面临的严峻形势,并针对我国加入WTO后社会对农科类人才需求的变化,提出了积极的应对措施。     

UCS-PROMOVE: The engineer of the future

The Universidade de Caxias do Sul (UCS) elaborated the cooperative project called ‘The engineer of the future’, with the objective of promoting science and engineering among high school teachers and students. This project aims to improve the quality of the teaching and to increase the interest of students in technological areas, leading to a future career in engineering. The activities of this project were planned to give meaning and foundation to the teaching–learning process of science and for the application of theory in the solution of real problems, while articulating scientific, economic, environmental, social and political aspects and also to reinforce the important role of engineering in society. Amongst the activities to be offered to high school teachers and students are a specialisation course for teachers based upon new educational methodologies, workshops in different areas of science and technology, a programme entitled ‘Encouraging girls in technology, science and engineering’, science fairs and visits to the industries of the region. Activities with the engineering instructors of UCS are also being developed in order to help them to incorporate in their classes more effective pedagogical strategies for educating the engineer-to-be.

在我国高等教育规模已居世界第一以后,反映在道德与价值观以及泛行政化倾向上的、有悖于大学精神的文化问题日益突显出来。为了提升高等教育品质,重建大学精神,我们需要努力克服所存在的大学缺失,研究大学标准问题,跳出专业标准的范畴,而不要遗忘了人文标准。我们需要解决思想道德建设、软环境建设以及学生的地位和大学中的服务等几个问题,以更好地发挥大学的基本功能,建设真正意义上的社会主义现代新大学。     

从纽曼到博耶：坚守大学教学“理智培育”的价值取向

面对现代大学教学越来越严重的功利化、工具化、市场化的倾向,纽曼、赫钦斯和布鲁姆等人,认为大学教学必须坚守"理智培育"的价值取向,这是大学之所以为大学的根本条件.尽管这三人的观点饱受质疑,但博耶的调查表明,当今大学教学不可丧失"理智培育"的价值取向,这一价值取向必须贯彻到大学教学的各方面.     

Tracking the nomadic life of the educational researcher: What future for feminist public intellectuals and the performative university?

Is the idea of the liberal university dead, has the postmodern university any chance of being emancipatory, has the theory-practice divide merely collapsed in an era of ‘new knowledge work’, or has the university just become one aspect of market states and global capitalism? Knowledge-based economies locate universities as central to the commodification and management of knowledge, while at the same time the legitimacy of the university and the academic as knowledge producers is challenged by postmodernist, feminist, post-colonial and indigenous claims within a wider trend towards the ‘democratisation of knowledge’ and a new educational instrumentalism and opportunism. What becomes of the educational researcher, and indeed their professional organisations, in this changing socio-political and economic scenario? Is our role one of policy service, policy critique, technical expert or public intellectual? In particular what place is there for feminist public intellectuals in a so-called era of postfeminism and public-private convergence? The paper draws on feminist and critical perspectives to mount a case for the importance of the public intellectual in the performative postmodern university.
