A Tragedy

On April 15, 1912, the Titanic, the large ship in the world, struck an iceberg (冰山) of Newfoundland and went down in the early morning darkness, took over 1500 life. The ship was making her first voyage from England to New York when the tragedy occurred. Of the 2223 aboard, only aobut 700 people saved. A holographic three-slit interferometer

A new type of real-time holographic three-slit interferometer is presented.It uses a calcite polarized optical element to obtain objective light and reference light to record a hologram.Its remarkable feature is to use a beam of fixed slit diffracted light as the reference light to record the lateral slit diffracted wave front,and to use also the same diffracted light as the illuminating light to reconstruct the wave front.This insures the phase distribution of the reconstructed wave front against the influence by the small natural direction drift of the laser beam and also by the tiny external vibration.The stabillity,reliability and measuring accuracy of this apparatus are improved notably.

This paper studies the modelling and simulation for all forms of hcaters.The assumption of former days that the temperature of condensation is the saturationtemperature corresponding to heater pressure in steam side is no longer used.On the basisof the laws of conservation of mass,energy and momentum,the mathematical model ofheaters is established and the simulation calculation of a 125MW unit is made.The rcsultshows that the model is applicable for various kinds of steam-water heater in power plant.

A HIERARCHICAL IDENTIFICATION ALGORITHM FOR THE EXTENDED EXPONENTIAL MODEL

A new hierarchical identification algorithm is proposed for solving the identi-fication problem of the extended exponential model,which is used frequently in ecological,social and economical systems.By using the zero character of the optimal Lagrangianmultipliers of the equivalent identification problem,a two-level structure of the algorithmis derived first.Then,the convergence and the correspondence with the conventionalnonlinear approaches of the algorithm are proved.The results of simulation and applica-tion show that its convergent rate is greatly higher than that of the L-Mmethod.     

A Network Framework Based on MechanicalComponent Design and Manufacturing

Network manufacturing has been rapidly developed and is going to play an important role in modern indusu‘y. The core of network manufacturing of mechanical products is the design and manufacturing based on the computer network technology. A network framework is introduced for manufacturing mechanical components at two main levels. On the design level features of the component are initially studied based on the structure and functions of the component. Details of the design procedure and contents are then analyzed with three main kinds of components. In this stage, selection of materials, calculation of sla‘ess and deflection under load, determination of the size are carried out using CAD. On the manufacturing level various aspects of CAPP are discussed, including the principle and the modes of positioning the component, the exerted clamping forces, cutting engagement and input parameters, machine tools used, and machining fluids if necessary. Finally a prototype of the network framework is presented with several pieces of data terminal equipment through a local area network, the topological structure, and data sharing and security, without concerning the use of the concurrent engineering techniques and virtual manufacturing, and virtual measuring techniques.

A new germacranolide from Carpesium cernuum

As a part of our interest in biologically active germacranolides from the genus Carpesium (Compositae), we have investigated the constituents of Carpesium cernuum. This paper reports the isolation and structural elucidation of a new germacranolide, cernolide A (Compound 1), from the herb. The structure of Compound 1 was determined as 2α,3β-dihydroxy-9-angeloxygermacra-4-en-6,12-olide on the basis of spectral evidence. The skeleton of Compound 1 was elucidation by IR, MS, 1H and 13C NMR, COSY, HMQC and HMBC experiments. The stereochemistry of Compound 1 was deduced by ROESY spectral data. Finally, the procedures of extraction and isolation were described in detail.

DETERMINATION OF A SIMPLIFIED MODEL AND ITS APPLICATION FOR A COMMERCIAL-SCALE RDS REACTOR SYSTEM

For the reasons of safety and economy,it is desirable to be able to makeon-line predictions of the catalyst deactivation curve in RDS reactor system.Sinceon-line prediction methods are based on models,it becomes neccssary to determine themodel parameters for the real system.In order to facilitate this estimation of parameters,an RDS model,which was obtained from detail mass and energy balances,isparameterized and simplified.The coking effect of catalyst deactivation in our model isdescribed by a simple function,in which the number of parameters involved can be re-duced,from the model's original fifteen,to ten.A method for determining the values of theparameters in the simplified model by the nonlinear programming method is proposed,and finally leading to an on-line deactivation curve forecast.
