英语委婉语是英语语言化中存在的一个具体语言现象，其语用功能主要表现在：“礼貌”功能，“回避”功能，“掩饰”功能和“伪装”功能。了解这四种功能，将对英语委婉语的正确使用起着指导作用。     

吃喝动词语义地图模型研究

语言中的吃喝类动词往往具有多义性。通过考察12种方言和语言中吃喝类动词的搭配对象,归纳出吃喝类动词的16项功能项,并绘制出相应的语义图。不同语言中“吃”类动词功能项几乎都多于甚至远远多于“喝”类动词功能项,这与动词义域、语言类型和使用频率有关。在语义图基础上归纳出不同语言间吃喝类动词的9条蕴含共性。除“固体类”和“流体类”功能项之外,“可吸收类”是吃喝动词关联最多的功能项。

"不"字独用的否定功能和衔接功能

否定副词“不”可以分别表示两种尽管互有联系但性质截然不同的功能：语义否定功能和语用否定功能。前者属于语言的否定，后者属于元语的否定。“不”在不同的语境中，具有程度不等的衔接功能，不但衔接的语言单位可大可小，丰富多姿，而且衔接的方式可隐可显，灵活多样。
