西部高校图书馆区域联盟建设机制探析——以四川省高校图书馆联盟建设为例

在分析比较我国高校信息资源共享体系建设模式的基础上,结合西部高校图书馆的实际情况,提出了以大资源观构建多层次互补的高校图书馆资源保障体系,依靠社会专业力量多快好省建立联盟书目信息联合目录和资源导航整合平台,建立可持续发展的西部高校图书馆区域联盟建设机制。     

图书馆联盟中分层式联合目录系统研究

联合书目系统是图书馆联盟内资源共享的前提和基础,虚拟联合目录是联合书目发展的方向,但虚拟联合目录存在检索结果集合并与排序难度大、成员馆检索压力大等缺点。为此,本文提出了一个由OPAC、馆际服务器和联盟间服务器组成的层次式虚拟书目系统,能更好地处理检索结果集、减轻成员馆的检索压力,该系统易扩展,更适合图书馆联盟不断发展壮大和联盟间不断融合的发展趋势。

Library Cartography: Mapping Workflow Processes in an Academic Library

This article will introduce and illustrate process mapping as a valuable tool in the academic library setting. Commonly used in the business world, process mapping is the practice of gathering information regarding a specific workflow and diagraming it visually, usually in the form of a flowchart. This representation can then be analyzed for process improvement. In addition to helping assess current workflow efficiency, process mapping is a valuable way for employees throughout the library to see how they are contributing to essential processes. Process mapping can also help to identify areas where departments can work to further collaborate and can contribute to knowledge management and continuity. This article will highlight the valuable benefits of process mapping and document the authors’ experience focusing this activity on the operations at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s J. Murrey Atkins Library.

Many academic institutions are creating electronic libraries and reorganizing technology units, such as computing centers, libraries, media centers, and telecommunications offices, into central administrative reporting structures. Usually, these are larger institutions. This article is a case study of how a smaller academic institution, Carthage College, merged the library and computing center in a short time to create an electronic teaching library.

Information on products, markets, distribution channels, sales management, the production and survival of sales personnel, sales results, consumer preferences, and purchasing habits is the lifeblood of the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association's business. The library is its best-known information service and member companies are encouraged to use the library as a resource. The library provides information on all facets of marketing operations, based on a collection of materials covering all distribution systems. The library also works to stay on top of new developments in group insurance, pension, and health insurance marketing as well as those relating to individual life insurance.     

Information Literacy at an Academic Library

Abstract

An increase in its distance-learning student population prompted Regent University Library to consolidate the library's information literacy program into one course. The course eventually went online to meet the needs of distance learners. During course development and implementation, librarians learned what worked well and what did not. Unexpected obstacles, such as database name and interface changes, created problems that were handled and overcome. As student surveys were analyzed and librarian experience increased, the course evolved and changed.
