2012年四川省普通高校图书馆发展状况调查

以四川省33所普通高校图书馆为研究对象,选取《教育部高校图书馆事实数据库》中2012年度与图书馆基本情况、经费情况、文献资源累积量相关的指标项进行整理和分析,对四川省普通高校图书馆2012年发展状况进行了调查和研究.     

基于馆藏和读者利用分析的高职院校图书馆资源建设与服务策略研究——以南京交通职业技术学院图书馆为例

通过分析南京交通职业技术学院图书馆2012年度入藏中文图书的藏书结构和借阅情况统计,提出了高职院校图书馆优化馆藏建设质量和提高读者文献服务能力的措施,目的是使馆藏文献资源更好满足读者需求。     

Circulation Scenarios:

A desire to learn more about how library resources were being used led to an analysis of the circulation records of books added to a psychiatric library collection from July, 1983 through May, 1985. The total number of books that circulated was counted, as well as the number and percentage circulated in specific subject areas. Missing titles were also tallied. Borrowers were categorized as in-house or off-site and their usage of the collection noted. The results of this study provided useful information for future collection development.     

Globalizing Librarianship: A Study-Abroad Class in Russia

This article reports on a study-abroad class to St. Petersburg, Russia, for students in library and information sciences, which took place in May–June 2012. The development of this class has led to other partnership opportunities between the University of Maryland Libraries and libraries and institutions in St. Petersburg.     

Shared patron driven acquisition of E-books in the California State University Library Consortium

The California State University (CSU) system has a history of consortial purchasing of electronic resources. Its most recent endeavor is consortial Patron Driven Acquisition (PDA) of e-books. Two PDA e-book pilots, funded by the CSU Chancellor's Office, were conducted in 2011 and 2012. The aim of the pilots was to reduce duplication of e-books on CSU campuses, and determine if consortial PDA is appropriate for the CSU. This article provides an overview of CSU's cooperative collection development efforts, results from both pilots, and addresses how a consortial PDA program affects collection development locally on one CSU campus.     

A stochastic approach to the relation between the impact factor and the uncitedness factor

Empirical analysis of the relationship between the impact factor – as measured by the average number of citations – and the proportion of uncited material in a collection dates back at least to van Leeuwen and Moed (2005) where graphical presentations revealed striking patterns. Recently Hsu and Huang (2012) have proposed a simple functional relationship. Here it is shown that the general features of these observed regularities are predicted by a well-established informetric model which enables us to derive a theoretical van Leeuwen–Moed lower bound. We also question some of the arguments of Hsu and Huang (2012) and Egghe (2013) while various issues raised by Egghe, 2008, Egghe, 2013 are also addressed.     

The power of information: health information and UK agendas

The Department of Health published a new health information strategy in May 2012. The document provides a framework for health information in England over the next 10 years. Health information developments in England, however, do not mirror developments in other parts of the United Kingdom. This article is a personal reflection on the new health information strategy in England, including comparison with developments in the other UK nations.     

Map and Geospatial Research and Reference Services at a Large Public Library: An Overview of the Leventhal Map Center

The Norman B. Leventhal Map Center (LMC) is a non-profit organization that provides stewardship of the Boston Public Library's (BPL) cartographic collections. The LMC moved into a new space in 2011 that displays rotating exhibitions and opens the collection for public inquiry, increasing awareness of reference services and research within the collection. In-person research numbers have declined slightly since 2012 as the LMC grows their digital collections. The LMC has made additional efforts to address increasing interest from tech-enabled researchers through the creation of a new digital collections website, by use of personas to inform design and providing workshops aimed at lowering the bar for entry into using GIS, and creating digital spatial indexes to supplement paper map indexes.

[目的/意义]对2012年至2018年的4份ACRL《高校图书馆发展大趋势报告》进行对比和分析，希望为促进国内高校图书馆的转型发展提供参考。[方法/过程]重点解读《高校图书馆发展大趋势报告：2018版》中的出版商与数据库商发展新趋势、虚假新闻与信息素养、图书馆项目管理方法、教科书的支付能力与开放教育资源、学习分析和数据收集与伦理问题、研究数据采集和文本挖掘与数据科学、馆藏管理等七大发展趋势。[结果/结论]提出借鉴国外先进经验、制定中国版图书馆发展趋势报告、加强数字素养教育、关注信息伦理问题、探索循证采购模式等建议。     

Language in Social Science Databases: English Versus Non-English Articles in JSTOR and Scopus

This article examines social science language trends in scholarly communication by looking at JSTOR and Scopus bibliographic data between 1996 and 2012. The results reveal that these two databases contain nearly 90 percent English-language publications. According to our analysis, Scopus continues to add more non-English peer-reviewed content while JSTOR totals are declining. To frame this discussion, the data are considered with reference to larger scholarly communication trends in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. This study will be relevant for librarians who are interested in non-English scholarly publishing and collection development.     

Trade Book Collections to Support Teaching Economics Undergraduates: Notes,Suggestions, and Bibliography

The popular economics genre has become a promising tool for the development of information literacy and critical thinking skills in relation to the fundamental principles of economics to undergraduates. This article discusses how a popular economics collection can support faculty teaching economics classes. A bibliographic discussion describes trends in this genre and demonstrates how a few representative examples of this genre may enhance a traditional economics curriculum. Recommendations for librarians supporting economics teaching faculty are discussed. Finally, a thematically organized appendix includes a selected bibliography of titles published between 1918 and 2012.     

Developing an evidence-based list of journals for nursing

The Nursing and Allied Health Resources Section (NAHRS) of the Medical Library Association created the 2012 NAHRS Selected List of Nursing Journals to assist librarians with collection development and to provide nurses and librarians with data on nursing and interdisciplinary journals to assist their decisions about where to submit articles for publication. This list is a continuation and expansion of a list initially known as the Key Nursing Journals list. It compares database coverage and full-text options for each title and includes an analysis of the number of evidence-based, research, and continuing education articles.     

Digitisation of the WA Welcome Wall collection: a case study

This article is focused on the partnership between the WA Museum Maritime History Department and Curtin University’s Information Studies Department on a retrospective digitisation project in 2012. The aim was to digitise the Welcome Wall project’s paper records and link these records to the museum’s online maritime history collection. The paper outlines and discusses the key business process questions that were considered prior and during the embarkation on the digitisation project. The conclusion shares lessons learnt from the project.     

Increasing impact in a time of decreasing budgets

This virtual issue (VI) has been compiled to mark the CILIP Health Libraries Group Conference 2012. In line with the conference theme: ‘Health libraries under the microscope: perfecting your formula’, the VI is a collection of 10 articles and regular features that have been published in Health Information and Libraries Journal in the last 2 years. The VI focuses specifically on the topics of impact, value and cost‐effectiveness. All the articles and regular features contained in this VI are freely available online.     

The Jazz Archives Fellowship: Professional Development and Diversity at the Institute of Jazz Studies

The Institute of Jazz Studies (IJS) started the Jazz Archives Fellows program in 2012 with two purposes in mind. First, the program focuses on improving diversity in the archives profession. Second, it provides a meaningful professional development opportunity for archivists in the early stages of their careers and for students in graduate programs who intend to become archivists. In addition, the IJS benefits directly from the fellows' work to process a collection and create a digital project. This article presents a case study of the Fellowship with a focus on program design, values, and lessons learned and includes recommendations for establishing similar programs.     

What do Our Faculty Use? An Interdisciplinary Citation Analysis Study

During the fall of 2012 and spring of 2013, two librarians from the University of Kansas Libraries conducted a citation analysis of faculty publications in three broad disciplinary areas: humanities, social sciences, and science. The main purpose of research was to find out if the library provides adequate support to faculty researchers. The authors confirmed that KU Libraries provide access to the majority of items used by campus researchers. In addition, the findings will be used in collection management decisions, such as demand driven acquisition. Finally, the authors analyzed additional citation analysis studies in order to establish external benchmarks for their results.     

面向技术创新服务与DOI应用的国际合作——“第三届中日韩科技信息机构联合研讨会”概述

“第三届中日韩科技信息机构联合研讨会”于2012年5月14—15日在KISTI本部韩国大田市成功召开。与前两届对比,本次会议在交流的项目数、达成合作意向的项目数上都有所突破,说明中日韩之间的国际合作已进入了纵深发展期。文章首先简要介绍本次会议的整体情况;其次,基于中方最为关切的议题,详细介绍与技术创新服务和DOI应用相关的交流项目;最后,从成果和未来规划层面,描述会议达成的主要意向及下届会议的计划。     

The Douglas County Model in Western Colorado

ABSTRACT

In 2012 the Marmot Library Network implemented the Douglas County Library Model of ebook collection and circulation. By 2014 Marmot had loaded 838 ebooks purchased direct from publishers and independent authors to an Adobe Content Server, and made them available in an open source discovery layer based on VuFind. In late 2015, after 3 years of disappointing circulation and tedious acquisition processes, Marmot decided to move some of this collection to OverDrive and abandon the local ACS. This article reports lessons learned from that experiment.

How Much of Library and Information Science Literature Qualifies as Research?

There is an extensive amount of Library and Information Science (LIS) writing produced each year. While there is general awareness regarding the variety of journal literature, there is no certainty on the percentage of the collection that we can call research. This project is an important first step in answering the question. A content analysis of the LIS academic/scholarly journals at the Simmons College Library was conducted. The research level collection of LIS literature makes the library an ideal candidate for this study. The latest issue of each journal subscribed to for fiscal year 2012–2013 containing academic/scholarly content was analyzed. Each article was analyzed to determine: 1) if it was research or non-research, 2) the method used to collect data for the study in the article, and 3) the subject terms or keywords associated with the article. 105 journal titles were identified out of 177 periodicals. In the 1880 articles analyzed from these, 16% qualified as research. Surveys were found to be the most popular research method used. This study will benefit students, faculty, and staff with research requirements as well as librarians who guide patrons through a search for research literature.
