Among the modern rhetorical devices,metonymy and synecdoche are two important figures of speech,which are analogous to each other for both use the name of one thing for that of something else.That is to say,both of the rhetorical devices involve substitution.Thus the two concepts are confusing.Metonymy emphasizes on using the name of one thing for that of something else with which it is associated.Synecdoche is a figure of speech in which a part is used for a whole,an individual for a class,a material for a thing,or the reverse of any of these.By making a comparative study of these two through the connotation and category,the author summarizes that:they are two independent figures of speech.     

The Cultrual Implication of the Chinese Cuisine Naming with Translation

The article first of all briefly pcesents the cnltural connotation of four categories of the Chinese cuisine. It then offers two characteristics of the Chinese cuisine naming with specific cultural implications.First,its primary motivation is characterized with straight-forwardness;Next,its secondary motivations of the Chinese cuisine naming consisting of the initiator’s name,the animal’s name,the plant’s name,the verse’s name and the special meaning’s name,We should follow the principles of stability and consistency in cuisine naming and its translation.The findings are not only interesting but provide a sound basis for a further understanding of one another.     

On Methods and Characteristics for Chinese Translation of Foreign Brand Names

In international marketing,the brand name of a certain product serves as an important element that may affect its prospect in the market.Particularly,for those foreign products entering China,the translation of the brand names directly influences their success in this huge market.A well-received translation of the brand name surely helps to promote the sales of the product.On the contrary,the product may not survive in the market.This paper focuses on analyzing and summarizing the methods and characteristics for the typical translation of foreign brand names in China at present,thus can be instructive and directive for other foreign products to enter China’s market.     

The Analysis of the Principles of Brand Translation

An external manifestation of a brand is a name, a symbol. In recent years, scholars at home and abroad on brand naming strategy for a lot of research. This article analyses some of the brand naming policy, and discussions from the perspective of translation method to the conclusion that brand names translation method: A preliminary framework. The author approaches the export business with some interrelated suggestions accordingly and hopes it can benefit in terms of translation of brand names.     

AUTltORITY CONTROL REGARDING CHINESE PERSONAL NAMES：Enhancement and Linkage with the Bibliographic Database

Authority control is critical for the quality of the bibliographic database. Authority control is important in guiding users from variant forms of headings to the controlled forms of headings and providing users with the related headings. With authority control, the forms of headings in the bibliographic records are consista,t and easy to access. Authority control not only increases the accuracy of searching but also makes retrieving records from the online bibliographic database easier. In the first part of the paper, the author brings out three formats for Chinese personal names in the online environment. Tire second part presents a new model for better authority control regarding Chinese presonal names. In the last part, the author emphasizes the importance of linking the online authority records with the bibliographic database. The quality of the database can be improved dramatically by providing vernacular access capability to the name authorty, records and ensuring that every personal name heading in the bibliographic records have corresponding Library of Congress name authority records。

Load and traffic balancing for the Internet are analyzed. An intelligent domain name system(DNS) policy for the control and management of content distribution networks (CDN) is presented. An CDNs network based Urtitech IntelliDNS is built, and performance of the network in realizing traffic and load balancing is measured. It is proved that CDNs provide a valuable service and the methods are feasible.

Mobile agent technology has drawn a tremendous amount of attention from researchers in distributed computing recently as it promises to provied an elegant and efficient way of solving complex distributed problems,as well as offering a new approach to human-computer-interaction.In mobile agent systems,the mobile agent travels autonomously from one computer to another within the agent enabled networks,executes itself in the agent execution environment,collects useful information and makes its own decision on behalf of its owner.This mobility nature of mobile agent demands its unique name in the whole network otherwise it gets lost or conflicts with other mobile agent having same name.This paper proposes a naming scheme which promises a unique name for a mobile agent within that network.     

Multiple hashes of single key with passcode for multiple accounts

A human's e-life needs multiple offline and online accounts. It is a balance between usability and security to set keys or passwords for these multiple accounts. Password reuse has to be avoided due to the domino effect of malicious administrators and crackers. However,human memorability constrains the number of keys. Single sign-on server,key hashing,key strengthening and petname system are used in the prior arts to use only one key for multiple online accounts. The unique site keys are derived from the common master secret and specific domain name. These methods cannot be applied to offline accounts such as file encryption. We invent a new method and system applicable to offline and online accounts. It does not depend on HTTP server and domain name,but numeric 4-digit passcode,key hashing,key strengthening and hash truncation. Domain name is only needed to resist spoofing and phishing attacks of online accounts.

Rectifying Names Is a Must——Xun Zi’s Linguistic Ideas in Zhengming

In China, Warring States Period was imbued with chaos of wars and the whole society was in a state of ferment. The disordered phase in ideological area, as the most direct reflection of the change, was characterized by that all the old ethical standard had been badly weaken, even failed to explain the moral facts. In terms of common people, they were confused and puzzled by the questions as "what is language?" and "what is the standard of speaking and behavior?" Some ancient scholars pinned these problems upon the reversal of "ming" (名) and "shi" (实).
