技术环境变革中国外图书馆员角色转变特点初探

[目的/意义]随着图书馆技术环境变革和职能拓展,图书馆员角色和形象被赋予许多新的期望。分析图书馆员的角色转变既能了解环境变化对职业发展的要求,也能为馆员素质提升和更好应对技术变革压力提供建议。[方法/过程]利用从数据库中搜集到的关于图书馆员角色的外文期刊文献题录信息,利用标题词分析方法对已有研究中的图书馆员角色进行分类,并根据角色定位描述图书馆员的岗位职责内容。[结果/结论]已有研究对学科馆员、教学馆员、医学馆员等关注度最高,技术变革也催生了数据馆员、社交媒体馆员等新岗位,图书馆员角色呈现分类细化、专业化和交互性增强、角色重叠明显等特点,技术对图书馆员角色的影响逐渐加强。     

The Climate of Change:

Changes in information technology, in institutional or societal imperatives, and in user expectations are forcing library administrators to re-examine not only the library's basic services but also the organizational structures which have been created over time to support those services. Organizational change-particularly structural change-is prescribed. The traditional separation of the two major divisions of libraries, technical services and public services, has often been the focus for discussions of library organizational change. Are libraries modifying their organizational structures? Are models evolving which may be adapted by other libraries? The author reports the results of a recent survey of organizational change in university libraries and describes the changes which are taking place. While the long-standing structures are still largely in place, new alignments of functions and non-traditional work unit groupings are becoming more commonplace. No matter how a given research library defines its future, collaboration, flexibility, and fluidity will be the key attributes that characterize its operations and services. (Woodsworth et al., 1989, p.138). Current library administrations should move quickly to flatten hierarchical structures. (Heim, 1989, p.199). Typically identified as the most desirable future is a scenario that includes a flexible organizations facilitating staff growth and increased contribution to the university missions. Measuring the Welfare Effects of Public Television

Based on an explorative case study in the Netherlands, the authors developed a methodology to assess the welfare effects of public service broadcasting. This methodology consists of a combination of revealed and stated preferences, using readily available data for all programs broadcast in the evening in 2011. The results cover both individual programs and an aggregate level. Because the data used encompass both public and commercial programs, the analysis allows for comparisons between these.

The Interpretation of Measuring Instruments in Museums

Abstract Artifacts involving scientific or mathematical concepts, particularly measuring instruments, have received little study in museums. This article is a case study that analyzes the display and interpretation of navigational instruments and related astronomical instruments in history museums. Based on the study, the author offers observations and recommendations on how museums might better intellectually communicate to their visitors about scientific or mathematical instruments. This article suggests that the multidisciplinary perspective of historical archaeology provides a comprehensive, holistic context for exhibiting and interpreting measuring instruments.     

从iSchools毕业生就业看我国图书馆学教育培养目标的变革

iSchools毕业生的就业情况,生动地体现了iSchools运动对传统图书馆学人才培养模式变革的成果。文章对iSchools联盟院系的毕业生就业领域、薪酬情况、求职时长等情况进行了调查,探讨了这些学院在人才培养目标上的特征,对我国图书馆学教育人才培养目标的变革提出了若干建议。

2014-2018年国外iSchools院校毕业生就业情况调查与分析

文章利用网络调查法和内容分析法,对国外50所iSchools院校2014-2018年毕业生的就业领域、就业单位、就业岗位、就业率等数据进行分析。研究发现:iSchools院校毕业生的就业领域广泛且不断扩展,与在校所学专业密切相关;就业单位集中在公共事业和私人企业单位,不同的岗位对工作内容、职责要求相差较大;美国iSchools毕业生就业率总体呈平稳上升态势,薪资整体处于中上水平,加拿大iSchools毕业生就业率相差较大;不同院校、不同专业的毕业生薪资之间存在较大差别;私营企业的就业岗位薪资较高,公共图书馆薪资较低。     

The Role of Professional Associations in Organization Change: Toward User-Centeredness

The title of this volume suggests that academic and research libraries should adopt a more "user-centered" approach in response to environmental trends and proposes a need for organizational change to arrive at a user-centered state. Other papers in the volume address specific trends and the responses—current or envisioned—of the library in an institution of higher education. This paper addresses the role of professional associations in the process of organizational change. It accepts as a given the assertion that organizational change is necessary and that user-centeredness is a desirable characteristic of libraries, of higher education institutions, and of associations.     

The Internet as Career,Job, and Employment Resource:

The Internet is becoming a key player in the provision of career, job, and employment information, though it is still being readied for prime time use. Libraries and career and job services are in a transitional phase that is leading to common use of the Internet. While there is a sense of urgency to jump on the Internet bandwagon, professionals havc time to learn and assimilate this new electronic culture. This article presents a broad understanding of Internet development, discusses barriers to both learning and teaching the Internet, offers tips and methods for hurdling these barriers, and briefly describes some of the career job sites currently found on the Internet.     

Revising the ISSN Standard: The Challenge of Change

ABSTRACT

The International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) has been the standard, eight-digit code used to identify newspapers, journals, magazines, and periodicals on all kinds of media—print and electronic—for the past 40 years. Periodically, the standard must be revised to allow it to accommodate new formats, changes in the publishing industry and information supply chain, and other developments in the information field. Regina Romano Reynolds, director of the U.S. ISSN Center at the Library of Congress, describes the issues that the ISSN International Centre perceives as necessitating a revision of the standard and the likely next steps in the International Organization for Standardization standards revision process.
