The popular attraction of Donald Trump has been a conundrum for many educators who have tried to understand the rationale behind his support. This article presents a philosophical argument for what this implies for curriculum design and the intellectual temperament of the populace. There has been much written about the purpose of education to prepare students to be knowledgeable participants in the democratic process to further the best interests of the country. The foundational skills of critical thinking are an integral component of that process, and should be reevaluated for how they fit into the current curriculum model. Suggestions for how to integrate critical thinking within the traditional school day are presented, along with the rationale for doing so. 相似文献

This article summarises the issues which have arisen in one grant‐maintained school as it attempts to respond to the needs of its highly supportive community. Saved from closure by opting out, Bankfield School is managed by a governing body for whom community education is a fundamental principle, and a Head and staff with a strong commitment to local needs. Problems might arise in the future from pressure for admission for out‐of‐area pupils, from tensions consequent upon the joint use and funding of facilities used by the community, and from possible interference in curriculum management by governors. The issue of accountability, and the achievement of complementary, and not competing, demands upon the school also require some special management awareness. Because the precepts of effective community education are recognised it would seem that the balance between school and community is being achieved to the mutual benefit of both. 相似文献

近年来国际间的课程改革浪潮,使得评价不单单仅是诊断和监控学生经由课程教学的学习成果,而产生了有别于传统的功能;评价本身能够左右社会观感,作为教师评鉴的依据,亦能以一种特殊形式彰显教学企图。就教育现实而言,应试教育与素质教育间的拉锯,唯有让评价回归到课程目标,也让教学回归到课程目标,方能妥适连结评价与教学,并正向引导教学和评价的进行。因此,揭示清楚可行、贴近教学需求的课程目标,俨然成为建构课程纲要时最重要的一环。本文提出“藉由评价来反映课程目标,再回馈至教学设计”的课程改革具体策略,并以2001年认知目标修订版认知历程向度中的“理解”为例,辅以台湾中学学生基本学力测验所公布试题,逐一说明评价如何帮助教师厘清课程纲要中课程目标的构想与机制。 相似文献

The number of university undergraduate courses in the area of interactive media is increasing. Many of these courses are based in the schools of art and design that have traditionally valued and focused on developing the aesthetic and artistic design skills of their students. However, because of the rapid changes in new technology the relation between the technology and design has become complex. This poses new challenges for the educators in this field. The main challenge is defining the role of programming in the curriculum and the relationship between ‘coding’ skills and ‘design’ skills. The article examines different conceptual models of programming and suggests that the concept of programming as artistic and creative practice and ‘programming as design’ would be more suitable for the art and design curriculum. 相似文献

Instruction on problem solving in particular domains typically relies on explanations from experts about their strategies.
However, research indicates that such self-reports often are incomplete or inaccurate (e.g., Chao & Salvendy, 1994; Cooke & Breedin, 1994). This article evaluates research on experts’ cognition, the accuracy of experts’ self-reports, and the efficacy of instruction
based on experts’ self-reports. Analysis of this evidence indicates that experts’ free recall of strategies introduces errors
and omissions into instructional materials that hinder student success. In contrast, when experts engage in structured knowledge
elicitation techniques (e.g., cognitive task analysis), the resultant instruction is more effective. Based on these findings,
the article provides a theoretical explanation of experts’ self-report errors and discusses implications for the continued
improvement of instructional design processes.

This paper sets out to emphasise the importance of providing some aspects of the curriculum in which children can experience a true sense of ownership and in which the content and learning methodologies are appropriate to their own ideas, perceptions, values and needs. Taking the position that the national curriculum and GCSE are assessment-led, the types of assessment provided by them are compared in order to define the value of formative assessment within the learning process, and its potential role in avoiding the type of teaching that results in orthodoxies.
