Summary Dealing with difficult patrons can be stressful. However, if we look at business literature and practice, we can learn much about how to deal with these difficulties. This paper focuses specifically on customer complaints. The business world regards complaints as valuable opportunities to improve customer service and satisfaction. Libraries should provide channels for their patrons to make complaints, follow up on those complaints, and train staff to deal with user dissatisfaction. Otherwise, our users may decide the library is not valuable to them, and we could lose valuable support. 相似文献

Some academic libraries use service philosophy statements to strengthen the quality of their service culture. A service philosophy statement communicates directly to users what they can—and should—expect from the library. This article describes a study in which the authors applied qualitative content analysis to service philosophy statements. The objective was to examine the form and content of these statements and identify themes, trends, and ideas in order to determine how and what they communicate about a library’s commitment to service. The results of the study found that statements in the sample varied significantly in strength and purpose. 相似文献

This research explores the relationship between employees’ disposition and several important job attitudes. Dispositional affect is a personality trait that describes people's emotional responses to situations. This study explored how affective disposition influences the job attitudes of work engagement, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction. Data were collected from a sample of librarians, and the results show that affective disposition strongly predicted the three job attitudes in the expected directions. The findings contribute to knowledge of the role of personality in the workplace and provide guidance for library managers on how best to facilitate positive job attitudes. 相似文献

Abstract Effective strategic planning can help a library focus on a common sense of purpose and can steer the library in directions that respond to a changing environment. The University of Florida Libraries embarked on a series of strategic planning activities in June of 2001. The process of thinking strategically has produced a renewed interest in dependable information about users' perceptions of our service quality, and LibQUAL+(?) emerged as one of the key contributors to this process. Our experience with LibQUAL+(?) and with strategic planning has been gained simultaneously. We have found that it provides a structure to support further communication with our users. LibQUAL+(?) will continue to shape our thinking as we move toward more strategic management methods that enable us to make informed decisions regarding our allocation of resources. 相似文献

Abstract In March 2002, the Duke University Medical Center Library administered the LibQUAL+(?) survey instrument, which measures library users' perceptions of service quality and identifies gaps between desired, perceived, and minimum expectations of service. This case study represents the Library's decisions regarding participants, approaches used to reach them, problems encountered with the survey, and the results of the data for the health care community. 对北京市8所高校130名图书馆员工的工作满意度做了调查,目的是找出影响员工工作满意度的主要因素,为高校图书馆管理者制定满足员工需要的管理政策提供依据。通过调查研究、员工访谈和专家咨询等方法,设计高校图书馆员工工作满意度量的初始表,借助SPSS13.0统计分析软件,进行了项目分析和因素分析,修正工作满意度量初始表,建立了一个正式的包含6个维度、36个题项的高校图书馆员工工作满意度量表。经过信度检验,该表具有优良的效度,可以进一步推广应用于同行业人员的工作满意度研究。 相似文献
