Reflective Consciousness of Teaching and Learning on English Curriculum in Higher Vocational Colleges

In English classroom of higher vocational colleges,there exist two essential factors:teachers’reflective consciousness and students’reflective consciousness.The former is teachers’awareness of learning activities and effect,and it contains the teacher’s reflections on the classroom practice,the presentation of learning tasks,the participation of students and the interaction between teachers and students in the classroom.The latter refers to students’awareness of self-improvement and the growing process.It focuses on the self-realization of students and their professional ability,method ability and social ability.The two factors are interactive to each other;in the interaction,the former is dominated,and the latter is strongly influenced;through the interaction,a harmonious classroom is constructed so as to achieve the effective teaching.     

English Acquisition in Classroom Teaching

In the course of learning English in classroom,students cultivate their ability to use the language.But that ability does not mean they are able to acquire that language in a communicative way,because the acquisition of language in classroom is mainly for the purpose of learning.It starts and ends in a particular circumstance-the classroom.In that case,analyzed and discussed is the universal feature of English acquisition in classroom and its effects on practical use respectively.     

A study of effect of music on higher vocational English classroom teaching

Most higher vocational students like listening to music in the classroom,and the curricular of English often troubles students because of its particularity.Therefore,it is meaningful to guide students to transfer their love of music to improving their English learning.This essay tries to explore how to use music to improve the efficiency of classroom teaching.     

The Application of Politeness Principle in English Class Teaching

Politeness embodies human civilization,acting as one behavioral criterion of moral significance to maintain the harmonious personal relationships.Politeness Principle,an essential research topic in pragmatics,is greatly meaningful in people’s daily communication.It is also needed in English class which involves the communication between teacher and students.With a theory basis of Politeness Principle put forward by Leech,this paper explains the content of Politeness Principle and probes into the application of Politeness Principle in English class teaching,citing the application of Tact Maxim,Approbation Maxim,Modesty Maxim and Agreement Maxim as examples to suggest that pleasant class atmosphere,good relationships between teacher and students,enthusiasm,politeness awareness and communicative competence can be obtained when the teacher observes Politeness Principle.     

Peers Small-sized Group Work-A Beneficial Form of Classroom Interaction

Why is the Use of Films in the ESL Literature Class a Good Idea?

The use of music to teach life skills to students with emotional disabilities in the classroom

This article discusses the teaching of life skills to urban American youths who are highly fascinated with the hip-hop culture--songs, raps, miming, lyrics, dressing and musical rhythms, especially individuals with emotional disabilities in the public schools. This is an instructional curriculum strategy to encourage positive and active participation of these students, promote perfect school attendance, encourage good behaviors, deal with anger management and motivate committed learning in the classroom. The instructors＇ understanding of students＇ culture, learning needs and styles, and using such background knowledge to educate them become imperative in this setting. These urge for innovative and leadership projects in the author＇s special education classroom necessitated the application of hip-hop music to teach life skills, reading and other functional skills in the classroom. The outcome was positive and rewarding to both the teachers and students. There are recommendations for interested teachers to devise creative teaching methods, differentiated instruction and appropriate classroom management practices to attain student achievement.     

Motivation Promoting in the English Classroom

Motivation is one of the most important factors which contribute to the success in foreign language learning.This paper focuses on the definition of motivation and some particulars,mainly based on the theory of the famous education expert and psychologist D?rnyei,will be involved in promoting the motivation of the students in English classroom.Hopefully,it will be helpful to teachers to promote motivation of the learners in the English classroom.     

Cooperative Learning in Oral English Classroom Teaching in Higher Vocational Education

Cooperative learning in spoken English teaching process occupies an important position.It is a relatively new teaching method to provide students with more opportunities to speak English,to reduce the tension of the students,to enhance the enthusiasm of the students to participate in the oral group activities,and to improve the students’ English speaking ability significantly.Cooperative learning has been widely used in teaching practice,but in spoken English classroom teaching,it is not be used completely.     

Computer-assisted elementary Chinese learning for American students

Despite hopes and claims about benefits of computer-assisted language learning, few studies have documented actual cases about how American students learn elementary Chinese in a computer-equipped classroom. This paper deals with how to use computer as an educational tool to＇ develop American students＇ Chinese language skills. The theoretical perspective is Interaction Theory; the three types of which, Negotiation of meaning, obtaining modified input and attending to linguistic form, offer the guidance in Computer-assisted learning. By means of observations, this study tries to answer three questions： （1） What is the best way to make use of computers？ （2） How can teachers initiate the students to apply computers？ （3） What＇s the relationship between the teacher and the students in a computer-equipped classroom？     

Perspectives on the Applicability of Cooperative Principle and Politeness Principle in China

As two main universal principles in conversation,Cooperative Principle and Politeness Principle play important roles in communication and intercultural communication.While in language teaching and learning in China,the neglect of the principles is caused by various reasons and thus leads to communication disorder in intercultural communication.The issue should draw the attention of English teachers who can lead students into the acquisition of the two principles in language learning.     

Students’ English Learning Anxiety in Senior High School

Since 1970s,the research on second language acquisition has been developed with times.The research focus of lLanguage teach ing has shifted from the study of how to teach students to how to learn for students,with particular attention to explore the influence that students’psychological factors such as learning motivation,learning attitude and learning anxiety have on learning outcomes.Among those emotional variables,anxiety is considered to be one of the most critical psychological variables.English classroom anxiety is different from the ordinary classroom anxiety and receives much attention from scholars.Horwiz(1986) pointed out that foreign language anxiety is a unique phenomenon in language learning.In China,English learning in senior high school is a very important period.It is a common phenomenon to see students behaving anxiously in the English class.Therefore,the anxiety in the English class of senior high school de serves attention.This paper will analyze the main reasons of students’anxiety and points out several effectively methods to relieve their anxiety so as to enhance English classroom teaching and learning effect.     

Setting Questions in Class Based on the ＂Wisdom Class＂ Theory

In the process of classroom education, setting questions in class is an important teaching method, which is used in the whole teaching activity and acts as the link between the thoughts of teachers and students. Hence, creating a wisdom class and using according questions to aid the class are of great significance to both students and teachers. In this paper, 40 elementary students from the 9th grade and 10 of their teachers were studied and the result showed that learning requirements facing to the whole class and students＇ learning beliefs are essential principles, and questions should be set by having an exhaustive understanding of the textbook, giving previous homework, creating a thinking atmosphere, and setting a proper difficulty for the students. The proper time to set questions is when the old knowledge and new knowledge of the student conflict in the awareness of the student, when the teacher wants to spread thought, and when the teacher wants to make a conclusion.

Academicians＇ self-efficacy in the application of TEC learning curriculum instructional design in Malaysian public tertiary education

This research is attempted to examine universities＇ academic staffs＇ curriculum instructional design in the teaching and learning process in applying the technology enhanced classroom （TEC） learning. The universities have embarked on a costly project to create an innovative and creative learning and teaching environment to promote and establish a state-of-the-art, smart, efficient, effective and high quality education. The teaching and learning culture of universities have great influence on determining the level of students＇ achievement. Seven dimensions of public universities in Malaysia were examined to determine the percentage of academic staffs＇ self-efficacy in the application of TEC learning. There is a significant difference among factors concerning the academic staffs＇ self-efficacy in their teaching and learning processes in the classroom management. Their self-preparedness in using the provided technology is closely related to the experiences and practicality of the teaching materials. This study represents an addition to the extant literature on universities＇ academic staffs＇ self-efficacy in the application of TEC learning. Academic staffs＇ self-efficacy in using TEC learning instructional design is of the utmost important to disseminate knowledge to students, which will also fully help utilize the government＇s effort in providing technology to the additional instructional design, so as to achieve high quality education and technological enhance education to pave the way to achieve a techno-education environment for all public universities in Malaysia. This study provides furtber groundwork to assist existing tertiary educational managers to improve smart teaching and learning environment and to retain high quality academic staffs in the day-to-day classroom curriculum.
