The Differences of Business Communicative Language between China and Britain

Language is the product of social being. The communicative language between China and Britain need be familiar with two spo ken and written languages as well as solid educational experience. There are a lot of oral speaking in both Chinese and English. Due to the regional culture, history culture, customs ,religious belief and historical allusion varied, the oral speaking also presents lots of cultural differ ences. By comparing the linguistic behavior in oral speaking between English and Chinese, this paper tries to discuss the difference between them and the cultural otherness it reflects. Study shows that language and culture are connected and infiltrated with each other, culture is re flected in concrete linguistic behavior.     

Imagery in Jean Toomer’s Reapers

Jean Toomer was an important figure in African-American literature. He was an American poet,novelist and an important figure of the Harlem Renaissance. His most famous work,Cane,was published in 1923 and considered by many as a masterpiece of the Harlem Renaissance. Reapers is the first poem in Cane which is related to the reapers in southern plantation and rich in imagery. Toomer conveys profound theme by using various images in Reapers.

An Inevitable Tragedy—On Tess' s Fate in Tess of the D'Urbervilles

A new broadband differential phase shifter fabricated using a novel CRLH structure

Broadband phase shifters are mostly proposed and fabricated based on the scheme proposed by Shiffman, which uses a coupled line with far ends connected together and a uniform transmission line to give a differential phase shift. Based on the unique dispersion property of the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) metamaterial structure, a new configuration is presented in this paper for fabricating the broadband differential phase shifter, which employs a novel CRLH metamaterial structure as one of the differential phase-shift arms, instead of the conventional coupled line. The new circuit can achieve a phase shift of 90° in an operational bandwidth as broad as one octave and its phase deviations are quite small. An original design of the novel broadband phase shifter is presented, in which the artificial CRLH structure was implemented by microstrip quasi-lumped elements. Both the simulated and measured results of the 90° broadband differential phase shifter are presented.     

Novel AR-based interface for human-robot interaction and visualization

Intuitive and efficient interfaces for human- robot interaction （HRI） have been a challenging issue in robotics as it is essential for the prevalence of robots supporting humans in key areas of activities. This paper presents a novel augmented reality （AR） based interface to facilitate human-virtual robot interaction. A number of human-virtual robot interaction methods have been for- mulated and implemented with respect to the various types of operations needed in different robotic applications. A Euclidean distance-based method is developed to assist the users in the interaction with the virtual robot and the spatial entities in an AR environment. A monitor-based visualization mode is adopted as it enables the users to perceive the virtual contents associated with different interaction methods, and the virtual content augmented in the real environment is informative and useful to the users during their interaction with the virtual robot. Case researches are presented to demonstrate the successful implementation of the AR-based HRI interface in planning robot pick-and-place operations and path following operations.     

A Stylistic Analysis of The Catcher in the Rye

J. D. Salinger was a remarkable writer in contemporary America. The Catcher in the Rye is his only novel, published in 1951. This novel attracts much attention from the critics and readers worldwide. It becomes one of the representative works of American literature of the 20 th century.Stylistics is a cross-discipline, which combines linguistics and literature together. Literary stylistics tends to focus on the analysis of literary text. According to Leech, there are four categories of stylistic features: lexical,grammatical, figures of speech and context. Since the purpose of stylistic analysis is to highlight the stylistic effects, different categories are used to find out how choice of words involves various types of meaning. Though, many literary reviews have contributed to the understanding of The Catcher in the Rye, most of them are concerned with its theme and the social value. Few scholars study the novel from the perspective of literary stylistics. Therefore, this thesis attempts to analyze the stylistic features of the novel’s language, disclosing how the protagonist’s language expresses meaning and thought.     

An immune-tabu hybrid algorithm for thermal unit commitment of electric power systems

This paper presents a new method based on an immune-tabu hybrid algorithm to solve the thermal unit commitment （TUC） problem in power plant optimization. The mathematical model of the TUC problem is established by analyzing the generating units in modem power plants. A novel immune-tabu hybrid algorithm is proposed to solve this complex problem. In the algorithm, the objective function of the TUC problem is considered as an antigen and the solutions are considered as antibodies, which are determined by the affinity computation. The code length of an antibody is shortened by encoding the continuous operating time, and the optimum searching speed is improved. Each feasible individual in the immune algorithm （IA） is used as the initial solution of the tabu search （TS） algorithm after certain generations of IA iteration. As examples, the proposed method has been applied to several thermal unit systems for a period of 24 h. The computation results demonstrate the good global optimum searching performance of the proposed immune-tabu hybrid algorithm. The presented algorithm can also be used to solve other optimization problems in fields such as the chemical industry and the power industry.     

A PAC Based Current Feedforward Control for Three-Phase PWM Voltage-Type Converter

This paper presents a novel current feedforward control strategy for a three-phase pulse-width modulation (PWM) DC voltage-type converter based on phase and amplitude control (PAC). With right-angle triangle relation of phasors and principle of conservation of energy, a phasor adjustment method and the relevant low-frequency mathematical model of the system are analyzed in detail, both in rectification and regeneration modes for the converter, are discussed. For improving the traditional PAC dynamic performance, variable load current is detected indirectly by the change of the DC voltage, which is fed to the control system as an additional control variable to generate modulation index and phase angle. Also, the algorithm is derived and the system principle is introduced. Experimental results from a 3 kw laboratory device are included to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.     

A blind source separation algorithm based on negentropy and signal noise ratio

A novel blind source separation (BSS) algorithm based on the combination of negentropy and signal noise ratio (SNR) is presented to solve the deficiency of the traditional independent component analysis (ICA) algorithm after the introduction of the principle and algorithm of ICA. The main formulas in the novel algorithm are elaborated and the idiographic steps of the algorithm are given. Then the computer simulation is used to test the performance of this algorithm. Both the traditional FastICA algorithm and the novel ICA algorithm are applied to separate mixed signal data. Experiment results show the novel method has a better performance in separating signals than the traditional FastICA algorithm based on negentropy. The novel algorithm could estimate the source signals from the mixed signals more precisely.
