Education 3.0: breaking the mold with technology

In order to meet the needs of today's knowledge economy, education needs to move beyond the industrial age approach of treating all learners as if they are the same and adopt a learner-centered model of education suitable for the information age. To support this model, a new and transformative technology is needed that focuses on mastery and customized learning. This article reviews the existing approaches to educational technology before proposing a new, customizable, open, and interoperable technology: a personalized integrated educational system (PIES) that provides full functionality for students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders and bridges the gaps between formal and informal learning. PIES' four primary functions: record keeping, planning, instruction, and assessment, as well as secondary functions, are defined and described. Future challenges and research opportunities are also identified.

The potential of information technology in support of teachers and educational managers managing their work environment

The use of information technology (IT) to support the classroom teacher and school managers to organize and manage the learning environment better has received little specific attention, even though many applications or systems purport that this is one of their aims. This special issue attempts to fill that gap. This introduction paper provides an overview of the range of support that IT can provide in the field of education, and discusses how the development of these support systems needs to be approached analytically. Finally, there is an overview of the papers invited for this edition of the journal that are illustrative of the wide ranging development of IT to support teachers, teaching and the management of both     

Evaluation of information technology in educational management for proactive development

Evaluation will be the key to effective and efficient implementation and use of information technology in education management. As hardware, software and the needs of users develop and change, such evaluation will need to be both proactive and dynamic in that it must continually provide information concerning how the systems need to be modified to allow the potential to be realized fully. Dynamic evaluation can then be used to inform the system design, training, support and documentation to ensure end-user acceptance of the systems and provide administration support and information relevant to enhanced decision-making processes. Findings from a preliminary study of the Hong Kong school administration and management system (SAMS) will be used to illustrate the problems that can occur without carefully planned and contextualized evaluation.     

国际教育技术学专家对教育技术的认识与看法

对绝大多数人而言,教育技术似乎是一个令人迷惑,甚至难以理解的概念。教育技术学专家的理解将为从业人员认识教育技术领域提供一个多维的视角。本研究采用问卷调查法,对6个国家12所大学的71位教育技术学专家进行调查,旨在阐释专家对教育技术学的理解以及不同国家的专家对教育技术应用实践的不同认识。研究结果表明,教育技术的功能大多与教/学过程和学习资源有关,教育技术的相关问题在不同国家并无显著差异。     

Educational Reform and Research in Hong Kong: A Request for Comprehensive Knowledge

When Hong Kong is moving towards a knowledge society in the new millennium, research is clearly necessary to provide a knowledge base for educational development and reform to meet the challenges of globalization and high technology in the world. This report aims to review the education policy environment in Hong Kong and see whether research can be encouraged to support policy development and practice improvement. Particularly, the report will give a brief introduction to the recent initiatives in Hong Kong school education since the establishment of the Special Administrative Region in 1997 and discusses the potential research agenda to support the ongoing education reforms at the school system. 随着教育信息化和高等教育教学改革的推进,高校教育技术机构面临着新的职能定位。文章通过对南通大学现代教育技术中心建设和发展的考察,提出高校现代教育技术机构应该是肩负建设、服务、管理、教学和科研五大职能的综合性机构。其中,建设与服务是立身之本,是基础;教学与科研是强身之路,是两翼;管理是教育技术推广应用的重要推手,是龙头。夯实基础,强壮两翼,抓住龙头,五位一体,均衡发展,才是高校教育技术事业可持续发展的必由之路。     

高校师范生的教育技术素质培养

面对信息社会的挑战 ,教育革新的速度加快 ,新型的教学方式要求高校师范生为适应新的教学环境而不断提高自己的教育技术素质。而目前 ,高校师范专业的教育技术教育还没有形成完全的标准化体系 ,笔者结合自己的教学实践对高校师范专业的教育技术教育阐述自己见解
