The Consciousness of Cross-cultural Communication Applied in the English Translation of Chinese Tourist Material

Tourism has become a hot topic in people’ s daily life.In recent years,tourist industry in China has developed rapidly and has shown great business opportunities.Tourism English is the most widely used language in the world.It bears the task to exchange eastern and western cultures to the tourists from all around the world.Because tourism translation is a kind of cross-cul tural communication,tourism material is a main channel to introduce China.The quality of the translation will directly affect the development of our tourist industry and the process of the globalization of tourism.     

The Study on the Structural Features of China's Foreign Trade

With the rapid development of our country’s economy,the role and status of foreign trade is increasingly important.Trade structure is the foundation of a country’s foreign trade;the trade structure’s alteration is not only connected with the foreign trade,but also the economy development.Since the reformation and being open to the world,China’s foreign trade has developed steadily both in scale and structure.However,the structure of foreign trade imbalance has been plagued with a key factor in China’s foreign trade.Structure of foreign trade imbalance not only reflects the structure of China’s internal economic imbalances,but also affects our exports more competitive.In this paper,the theory will propose suggestions for the foreign trade China.     

An analysis of The Last Emperor from the perspective of Post-colonialism

The Italian film The Last Emperor has strong color of post-colonialism,therefore,my paper will analyze the film from the perspective of post-colonialism.The two important terms in post-colonialism theory closely related to the film are "Orientalism",and "the other".My paper focus on analyzing the China’s image in European films from the angles of "Oriental ism" and "the other".My paper reveals that the China’s image in European films can’t break away from Orientalism,and the western world describe the oriental world according to its own imagination and think itself as a savior to the oriental world.Therefore,what we Chinese should do is being initiative to describe ourselves to shape a new image of real China.     

A Comparison between Life of Chinese Women and That of American Ones

The United States is the largest developed country in the world and China is the largest developing country in the world. As America and China are playing increasingly important roles in the world, people are eager to learn more about these countries. This paper makes a comparison of the lives of Chinese and American women so as to give readers an idea of the cultures, customs and values of these two countries. The discussion of women’s lives in China and America is conducted from three aspects, namely, occupation, women and family, women’s education.     

The Imagined Other——Image of China in Kubla Khan

Said’s Orientalism points out that the Occident is the interpreter and the Orient is the interpreted. The Occident has the privilege to interpret at will the history, culture, character and tradition of the Orient, in which the Occident finds its legitimate excuse in dominating and seizing the Orient. The paper presents an analysis of Coleridge’s Kubla Khan in which China has been constructed as the ’Other’. In addition, it also demonstrates that cultural hegemony participates in the process of colonizing the world.     

Analysis of English Majors’ Expressiveness of Chinese Culture in English

Currently English has spread around the world so extensively that it has become a link language across many cultures.Since 1980s,China saw a warm discussion of language,culture and cross-cultural communication.An increasing number of researchers and educators began to be aware of the vital importance of culture in EFL teaching and learning and cultural content has been available in classrooms teaching.However,the development of English teaching and cross-cultural communicative competence is target culture-oriented and the ability of expressiveness of home culture in English is almost ignored.Thus,the thesis seeks to collect the students’ perceptions on expressiveness of Chinese culture in English and the culture teaching in EFL in China.     

Progressive Revolution-On Chinese-English Translation of China’s Public Signs

In 1978, there came the refreshment of reform in the whole China, like mushrooms after rain. During his southern tour, Deng Xiaoping, the general secretary of People’s Republic of China, gave the proclaim which opened a new page for Reform-Opening up policy when China’s economic development had been involved into the ocean of international economy. At the background of the new cooperation, the study on C-E translation of China’s public signs has been gradually paid attention to. Then there are many more scholars going for the study of public signs ,who have been kept steps with the world in recent studies;It is helpful to improve the atmosphere of China’s language and humanity accomplishments and to strengthen the soft power and civilized image.     

The Spread of English as a Global Language and its Implication for Classroom Teaching in China Context

The status of English in today’s world has been established definitely.It is not only embodied in the increasing numbers of speakers,but also embodied in the role which English has played in some non-English speaking countries.English is spread as an International language in worldwide and which is no longer belonging to any English speaking countries but belonging to those who use it(McKay,2002).The consequences of English spreading are:on one hand,English as an international lingua franca status has been further consolidated;on the other hand,different regional variants appear in English.These changes lead to the debate between Standard English and varieties of English.All of these in turn generate a profound impact on English language teaching.China as one of non-English speaking countries has also been the impact of globalization in English.The English teaching in China is facing challenges and innovation.     

Study on the Translation of Puns in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland from the Perspective of the Functional Equivalence Theory

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is a world-famous masterpiece in children’s literature.The adventure stories in the novel deeply attract the child readers in different countries in the world.The use of puns in the work adds to its aesthetic value.In China,many scholars have translated it.The research topic is the application of Nida’s theory of functional equivalence in the pun translation in children’s literature work Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and the degree of equivalence in Wu Juntao’s translation.The person who does the research has read the original work and the translator Wu Juntao’s translation of this book,analyzed the translation of puns in the book,read the relevant journal articles on the theory of functional equivalence and thought about the academic views in them.On the basis of text reading,translation analysis and reference analysis,the following conclusion has been made:According to the basic points in the theory,in the work,Wu Juntao’s translation of the puns has basically achieved the equivalence between the original text and the target text in readers’responses,language style and language meaning.     

Strategies of English Legal Translation

In recent years,China is deepening reform and opening up to the outside world especially after China’s successful accession to the WTO.Sino-foreign communication in the field of law is on the rise day by day along with the rapid development of globalization.As can be seen from the previous legal translation studies both in the western world and in China,scholars or researchers have made much effort to conduct studies of legal translation.In this thesis,the basic features of Strategies in legal translation are introduced with some examples in the legal translation practices.And it is explained how to produce a successful legal translation.     

Metaphor Analysis of Chinese Premier Wen’s Cambridge Speech

Metaphor is more than an ostensible decoration of language.It is an integral part of human thought of ideologized world.This article analyzes the metaphor use of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s speech at Cambridge in February 2009,in an attempt to display how the preferred metaphors serve the purpose of this speech and reflect Premier Wen’s construction of China’s situation.

The Development of Bilingual Education in China

Bilingual education has more than 50-years’ history in the world.It has gained the attention from the world since 1960s in some western countries,such as the USA and Canada.With the growth of international business and the appearance of the global village,bilingual education has become a hot issue in China.This article generally outlines the picture of bilingual education in the world.Then,it describes the development of bilingualism under Chinese contexts.Above all,the models of the bilingual education have been explicitly introduced to build up the basis for further investigation.Besides,the two main periods of the bilingual education in China have been described based on the empirical literature.In the end,the influential factors of the development of bilingual education have been discussed from five main perspectives:economic,social,educational,cultural and political framework.However,there is a lack of documentary resources and experimental materials for the scaffolding of bilingual education in China,which requires further investigation.     

Nominalization in the Translation of Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine has not only made great contribution to the Chinese culture,but also generated positive influences on the world civilization.With China’s entry into WTO,Chinese medicine has been paid great attention.Nevertheless,the nature of the Chinese medicine language makes its translation very hard,particularly it is very difficult to deal with the phenomenon of nominalization when translating Chinese medicine into English.This paper explores how and why there are nominalizations in the English translation of Chinese medicine.
