MPG Junior Research Group at KIZ

With the approval of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the German Ministry of Science & Education, this year will see the establishment of another MPG junior research group at the Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ). The institute has been seeking all over the world for a scientist to head the group. The first such group was set up at the KIZ in 2001, with Dr. Wang Wen from the University of Chicago as its head.

CAS spearheads R＆D program for research facilities

China＇s capacity for indigenous S＆T innovation is believed to have been hampered by its lack of homegrown research facilities. To address the problem, a pilot program for the research and development of major S＆T facilities has been launched at CAS. The kick-off meeting was held on 28 March in the CAS Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry in Beijing.

Because of its outstanding performance, an aligned nanotube film with micropatterns has been a research focus in the field of nano-science and technology. GaAs-based Long Wavelength Laser Devices Developed in China

A research group headed by Prof. Niu Zhichuan from the State Key Laboratory for Semiconductor Superlattice and Microstructures affiliated to the CAS Institute of Semiconductors has succeeded in developing a GaAs-based longwavelength laser device: InAs/GaAs self-assembly quantum dot laser with a wavelength of 1.33 μm under continuous-wave operation mode at room temperature. Experts say this is the most important achievement in the field of GaAsbased near-infrared,     

UV Raman Spectroscopic Studies on Catalytic Materials

Due to their excellent work on UV Raman spectroscopic studies on catalytic materials, a team of scientists led by CAS Member Prof. LICan at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics （DICP）, CAS were awarded with a Second-Prize from the 2011 State natural Science Award. The team has long devoted themselves to the research on catalytic materials, and has helped solve some long-standing difficulties in this field, including the characterization of catalyst activity and studies into synthesis mechanisms of catalytic materials.     

CAS, Guangxi to join forces for eco-environmental restoration in Karst areas

CAS has recently signed a protocol with the Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to jointly rehabilitate the depleted ecosystem in the local Karst areas. Early and effective partnership has been formed between the two sides to eliminate the local poverty with S&T means and improve the ecological setting in the Karst areas of the Region. Since the conclusion of a cooperative pact between the two sides to exploit the stony mountains of the region in 1993, for example, a batch of key research results and effects of applicable demonstration has been achieved.     

Discussion on the System of Administrative Counterpart's Right of Resistance in China

The research value of the right of resistance in the administrative law has been highlighted gradually in recent years with the enhancement of legal awareness and the increase of administrative cases in our country.In this paper,based on the concept and characteristics of the administrative counterpart’s right of resistance and the present situation of its development in our country,a conception of system of administrative counterpart’s right of resistance is proposed with the use of the regulations concerning the right of resistance in other countries for reference.
