Grandparents of Children with Autism: A Review with Recommendations for Education,Practice, and Policy

One in 166 grandparents will become grandparent to a child with autism. A review of empirical studies suggests that these grandparents experience significant role confusion. They provide the autistic child's parents—who are more likely to be depressed, single, or divorced—with both burden (e.g., conflict regarding behavioral symptoms) and emotional and instrumental support (e.g., childcare; financial assistance; advocacy). Unique stressors of autism upon families include social isolation and financial burden. Custodial grandparents face additional stressors. Opportunities for education, practice, and policy that are designed to help grandparents redefine their role, share in the diagnosis and treatment of autism, and obtain social support are advanced.

Examining Service-Learning Literature in Physical Education Teacher Education: Recommendations for Practice and Research

Service-learning is a teaching strategy designed to provide learners opportunities to transfer theory to practice in an authentic environment while concurrently meeting genuine needs in the community. The reciprocal nature of service-learning differentiates this pedagogy from other learning venues including field experiences, internships, and student teaching. Recently the interest surrounding, as well as the utilization of service-learning, has grown in numerous academic disciplines including physical education teacher education (PETE). PETE research investigating the impact of service-learning in regards to student and community outcomes is also emerging. The purpose of this article is to provide a review of the current PETE service-learning literature. Components of the review include examination of theoretical frameworks, exploration of the impact of service-learning on PETE students and community participants, and recommendations for practice and future research.     

Interpersonal Problem Solving : A Selective Literature Review to Guide Practice

Increasing evidence exists of the need for school professionals to be proficient in interpersonal problem solving. With the intention of providing information on how to solve a problem, literature on interpersonal problem-solving skills from various disciplines is reviewed and summarized. The review indicates that the interpersonal problem-solving process consists of five stages: (a) problem identification, (b) generation of alternate solutions, (c) decision making, (d) implementation of the solution, and (e) evaluation of the outcomes. Suggestions for carrying out each stage are enumerated. Concerns regarding the empirical base of the interpersonal problem solving literature are raised.

神性写作和日常写作作为不同审美观照下形成的两种不同文学实践方式,它们在叙事形态、情感方式以及审美境界、艺术想象力上都迥然不同。在当前的汉语文学写作中,尽管两者均有缺失,但是尚处不成熟状态的神性写作仍然显示了对汉语文学长久以来只有社会—政治之维的单一局面的冲击,并将与宗教、与神性对话的崭新维度引入了文学审美,为拓展文学空间,奠定文学的现代品格提供了某种可能。

The Bookmark Standard-Setting Method: A Literature Review

The Bookmark method for setting standards on educational tests is currently one of the most popular standard-setting methods. However, research to support the method is scarce. In this report, we review the published and unpublished literature on this method as well as some seminal work in the area of evaluating standard-setting studies. Our review highlights both strengths and limitations of the method. Strengths include its wide acceptance and panelist confidence in the method. Limitations include a potential bias to produce lower-than-intended standards and problems in selecting the most appropriate response probability value for ordering the items presented to panelists. It is clear that more research on this method is needed to support its wide use. Several areas for future research to better understand the validity of the Bookmark method for setting standards on educational tests are presented.     

国内数字校园研究综述分析:基于2010-2012年文献

数字校园自20世纪90年代末以来备受研究者的青睐。为深入了解国内数字校园研究的现状、热点与发展趋势,从文献研究视角分析2010－2012年间数字校园研究的CSSCI期刊论文和优秀硕士学位论文。据此归纳了数字校园已有的研究成果,阐述了当前数字校园的研究现状,讨论分析了国内数字校园研究存在的问题,总结了有关数字校园研究的热点,包括新视角下数字校园建设、数字校园应用系统与应用推进、新媒体技术在数字校园中的应用及教育信息化建设与发展四个方面,并从智慧校园、物联网、大数据三个方面探讨了数字校园研究的发展趋势。     

管窥《外国文学评论》和《外国文学研究》

《外国文学评论》和《外国文学研究》对域外文学的介绍和述评功不可没,其圈内影响力和成就得到公认;但是由于缺失更开阔的视野和追随域外的文学批评路径,两刊在构建中国自己的外国文学评介体系和学术探索上缺失创新性的突破,在中国学术界的跨学科影响力有限。笔者就两刊的栏目设计、选题和编辑方针的不完善之处进行了简析。     

Recommendations for Practice: Justifying Claims of Generalizability

Recommendations for practice are routinely included in articles that report educational research. Robinson et al. suggest that reports of primary research should not routinely do so. They argue that single primary research studies seldom have sufficient external validity to support claims about practice policy. In this article, I draw on recent statistical research that has formalized subjective notions about generalizability from experiments. I show that even rather large experiments often do not support generalizations to policy-relevant inference populations. This suggests that single primary studies are unlikely to be sufficiently generalizable to support recommendations for practice.     

教育与代际收入流动关系(上)——基于理论视角的文献述评

代际收入流动是社会公平正义的基本议题,而教育与代际收入流动的关系是当今社会的热点话题.经济学与社会学家基于不同的学科视角对教育与代际收入关系展开了丰富的理论探讨,但目前学界缺乏对教育影响代际收入关系内在机制的梳理.文章将代际收入流动过程分为三个阶段,分别探讨教育影响作用的理论机制.在家庭教育投资决策阶段,家庭效用函数理论关注现实经济和信贷约束的作用,而自我实现理论更关注不平等的阶层非经济特征;在学校教育过程阶段,人力资本理论强调学校教育的精英主义和绩效原则,而社会化理论则认为学校教育是代际不平等再生产和合理化的工具;在教育的劳动力市场回报阶段,地位获得理论等仅强调劳动力供给特征的收入效应,内部劳动力市场理论、劳动力市场分割理论等则仅关注劳动力需求特征的收入效应,而工业化理论等调和了劳动力供给和需求双方特征对于个人收入的影响效应.研究发现,经济学视角的研究普遍认为教育对改善代际收入不平等具有积极作用,而社会学视角的研究则多认为教育无法改变现有的社会阶层分化并呼吁直接的社会改革.基于理论视角的系统梳理对于教育与代际收入流动关系的实证研究具有重要启发意义.     

New Challenges in Agricultural Advisory Services from a Research Perspective: A Literature Review,Synthesis and Research Agenda

Abstract

Purpose: Agricultural advisory services are perceived by many actors involved in rural development as a key driver behind innovation processes in agriculture. However, changes in national and global contexts cause dramatic changes in the orientation of advisory services, their organisation and their methods of intervention. This article aims to analyse the major research topics related to agricultural advice.

Design/methodology/approach: The study is based on an extensive review of literature produced over a ten-year period that is accessible through the CAB, ECONLIT and Web of Science citation indexes. Using keywords related to extension and advisory services, we selected published articles according to the relevance of the results provided in relation to advisory services and the quality of the discussion on past or current controversies.

Findings: The results show that the ongoing scientific debates are shaped by the diversity of disciplines, methods, topics and schools of thought. The scientific community largely has focussed on five main themes: (1) the institutional environment of agricultural advisory services; (2) the structures necessary for the operation of an advisory system; (3) the actors providing advisory services and the skills deployed in advisory activities; (4) the approaches, methods, tools and content of advisory activities; and (5) the assessment and impacts of advisory systems.

Practical implications: This literature review is useful for researchers and practitioners to better understand research results in the field of advisory services. It paves the way for future research.

Originality/Value: Although many articles have been written in recent decades on agricultural advisory services, few studies provide an overview of the contributions of, and debates in, the international scientific community.     

The Use and Efficacy of Handheld Computers for School-Based Data Collection: A Literature Review

Given the increasing influence of technology and the explosion in data collection demands, the acceptance and assimilation of new paradigms and technologies require today's educators, researchers, and evaluators to consider alternative tools, and apply them effectively. One of these alternatives, handheld computers, also known as personal digital assistants (PDAs), makes the benefits of computerized data collection more accessible to field-based researchers. An evaluation of handheld computers as data collection tools in research settings requires an understanding of their use from different perspectives in existing research. This review examines the willingness of teachers to adopt handheld data collection systems by focusing on 5 main features: (a) ease of use, (b) usefulness, (c) subjective norms, (d) intention to use, and (e) dependability.
