所谓“漫画事件”，是指由丹麦、挪威等欧洲国家新闻媒体率先刊登或转载亵渎伊斯兰教先知的讽刺漫画而引发穆斯林世界抗议怒潮的突发公共事件，又称“漫画风波”。此事肇始于丹麦，后续影响不断扩大，并蔓延到欧洲、中东乃至于亚洲，最终酿成一场政治危机、人道主义灾难。     

“共识”与“共识的程度”:国家形象认知的别种维度

论文循着国际合法性与国家形象之间的内在关联,尝试从国际合法性视角出发来建构国家形象认知。国家形象是一种主观见之于客观的活动,它直观地体现着一国的主流民众对他国的融汇情感在内的整体性知觉和评价,在此种意义上国家形象可以理解为共识;同时,国家形象并非静态的主客体关系的结果和单纯对现实的复制式描述,而是主体间进而是形象间交往互动的产物,其中不可避免地裹挟着国家间多重力量的博弈,在这种意义上国家形象可以表示为共识的程度。     

Approval plans for religious and theological libraries

The task of acquiring materials in the area of religion on a level to support research and teaching for graduate or professional programs is a challenging one. Even within the relatively narrow scope of religious or theological studies, the quantity of published material makes it a substantial task to review all newly published titles. The concept of an approval plan, whereby books published within a defined subject area (or areas) are automatically shipped to the library, at first seems a logical and elegant method of reducing the burden on typically overworked bibliographers. Unfortunately, experiences from a variety of seminary and theological libraries corroborate our essentially negative experiences with approval plans. It appears that for specialized collections such as theological libraries, approval plans may be a good idea whose time has not (or perhaps never will) come. Some of the problems with approval plans are discussed, and the alternatives used by the Divinity Library at Vanderbilt are presented.     

Paving Consensus: Enacting, Challenging, and Revising the Consensus Process in a Cohousing Community

This study focused on a cohousing community's use of consensus to make a decision about surfacing a parking area. It revealed that the community's use of consensus decision making allowed the residents to balance three goals: making an appropriate decision, meeting members' needs, and maintaining the community's well-being. Reaching agreement, however, was complicated by members' value differences and discontinuity in their participation. The analysis of this case reveals three qualities characteristic of the enactment of consensus: the role of structured communication within and between group meetings, a tension between maintaining process openness and reaching decision closure, and the expectation that group members will work within the consensus process. The analysis also highlights the importance of timing in the interpretation of conflict in a consensus-oriented group and the role of process change when a group reaches the limits of members' commitment to consensus.     

Issues in developing a religious studies collection

The study of religion has developed over recent decades into an interdisciplinary, multifaceted field which requires special considerations for the academic library. The implementation of a program of collection development for religious studies is dependent on the place of religious studies in the total mission of the institution, the needs of the users, the strengths and weaknesses of the existing collection, and the resources available to develop it in needed areas. Collection managers also need to be aware of their role in interpreting the collection to users.     

Some characteristics of the black religious audience

Rhetorical critics have no consensually acceptable understanding of their enterprise because theoretical discussions of the nature of rhetorical criticism have been conducted from within the stances of the natural attitude. The reflective attitude, in contrast, reveals the shared assumptions and procedures of all rhetorical critics, regardless of their particular theories and methods. The reflective attitude is thus required in formulating an acceptable understanding of rhetorical criticism as a form of experience.

The role of importance,novelty, and plausibility in producing belief change

This study investigated the role of importance, novelty, and plausibility of message information in producing belief change. Participants in the study were 224 university students who read messages that were either high or low in importance, novelty, and plausibility. The results demonstrated that significant belief change only occurred when message information was high in importance, novelty, and plausibility.

From exemptions to censorship: religious liberty and victimhood in Obergefell v. Hodges

This article analyzes the Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, showing that a subset of the dissent constructed devout religious groups as victims to rearticulate power relations between the state, LGBT groups, and religious entities. This rearticulation is possible as a consequence of ambiguity in the legal concept of religious liberty, which is explored in depth. That ambiguity is employed to mount an argument against the decision, moving LGBT individuals from oppressed to oppressor of religious groups. The study contextualizes this inversion against the material and symbolic conditions of both the LGBT and devout Christian communities in the United States.     

A telephone survey of religious program preferences among listeners and viewers in Los Angeles

This study attempts to supply an answer to a question often asked by religious speakers and laymen alike: How effective are religious radio and television programs in reaching people who do not usually attend religious services? The information gained by this study represents an important means in determining the value of present day programs of a religious nature — as far as the reactions of people living in the Los Angeles area are concerned.     

Mestre Piranga - study and conservation of Brazilian religious sculptures from the eighteenth century

Abstract

Known today only by the name of the region where he lived, Mestre Pirang-a, an eighteenth-century santeiro (saint-maker), is considered a great artist by afficionados of Brazilian sacred art. Part of the present work consisted in a survey and cataloguing of the surviving religious imagery in the region of the Piranga river valley. A considerable number of these images could be attributed to the master. Three sculptures were analyzed with regard to form, style, iconography and technique of execution (support and polychromy), using scientific methods. Their state of preservation was investigated and a proposal for conservation was drawn up.     

Interpersonal attraction and religious identification: a comparative analysis of Muslims and Hindus in India

This study compared whether an individual is more likely to perceive interpersonal attraction toward a member of his/her own or a different religious group. Self-identified Hindus (N=526) and self-identified Muslims (N=301) in India participated in the study. Results indicate members of a religious group (Hindus and Muslims) are significantly more likely to perceive physical, social, and task attraction for members of their own religious group than for individuals from another religious group. These results support an ethnic group vitality and in-group/out-group dichotomy.     

The necessity of the fairness doctrine given the religious right televangelists

An experiment examined the effectiveness of two intervention strategies to reduce children's fear of the television series The Incredible Hulk, in which a mild‐mannered character (David) transforms into the monstrous Hulk. The Identity tape emphasized the similar positive motivations of David and the Hulk. The Visual Cues tape showed an actor being made‐up to look like the Hulk. Both tapes reduced fear (relative to a control condition) during the post‐transformation segment that featured the Hulk. Additional measures (ratings of the characters, explanations of the transformation) were used to evaluate several possible reasons for the success of the interventions.     

Consensus formation in science modeled by aggregated bibliographic coupling

The level of consensus in science has traditionally been measured by a number of different methods. The variety is important as each method measures different aspects of science and consensus. Citation analytical studies have previously measured the level of consensus using the scientific journal as their unit of analysis. To produce a more fine grained citation analysis one needs to study consensus formation on an even more detailed level – i.e. the scientific document or article. To do so, we have developed a new technique that measures consensus by aggregated bibliographic couplings (ABC) between documents. The advantages of the ABC-technique are demonstrated in a study of two selected disciplines in which the levels of consensus are measured using the proposed technique.
