高校学报稿件组织选择误区及应对策略

高校学报在组织选择稿件时若找不准其社会定位,就会走进不利于学报生存发展的误区.要使高校学报得到可持续发展,学报建设必须成为高校整体建设的一部分,使学报工作与高校学科建设、科研工作互动,真正实现高校学报的社会功能.     

高校图书馆选书决策模式及选书质量评价机制研究

高校图书馆的选书组织形式，应该是图书馆专业采购人员与本馆“学科馆员”相结合，再吸收部分师生参与的决策模式。对他们所采购的图书，还应专门成立一支合理评价队伍，以科学的标准进行评价。     

芝加哥学派的阅读研究

芝加哥学派的阅读研究主要是指在20世纪30年代,美国芝加哥大学图书馆学研究生院道格拉斯·韦普尔斯等人所进行的阅读研究.此外,巴特勒和谢拉在致力于构建他们的图书馆学科学体系的时候,都没有忽视阅读的作用,他们认为,正是通过阅读,个人才能学习社会知识,图书馆作为人和书写记录之间媒介的功能才得以实现.芝加哥学派阅读研究所取得的成果不仅使美国阅读调研传统得以形成,而且对中国目前的阅读研究也有重要的参考价值.     

Book selection strategies in university libraries of Pakistan: An analysis

University libraries in Pakistan spend a large portion of their funds on buying books and these are still the most important part of libraries' collections. Selection policies and practices play fundamental role in developing a strong book collection. This study aims to explore the policies, methods and procedures of selecting books in the university libraries of Pakistan. Data for the study were collected following multi-method approach, through questionnaires and unstructured interviews with the university librarians and faculty members for the doctoral research by the present author during 2003 to 2004. The analysis of data shows that the factors affecting successful execution of the practice of effective selection include: overly dependence on the faculty for selection, constraints of faculty members as selectors, non-availability of selection aids, lack of awareness regarding online resources available for selection, etc. The study suggests some feasible ways to improve the situation. The findings and suggestions may be of value to the countries with similar situations in the developing world.

The University of Chicago (UC) Press was a major catalyst in the rise of the University of Chicago's Department of Sociology to preeminence by 1920 in American, indeed international, sociology. The role of the UC Press in this development has been overlooked, even though a majority of books and articles written by Albion Small, W. I Thomas, their cohort, and their students in this period bore the UC Press imprint. Editorial control of theAmerican Journal of Sociology, founded by Small in 1895, was exercised within the UC Department of Sociology due to its publication by the UC Press. The preparation and use of library manpower

Trends in library education and manpower utilization in general are briefly surveyed, with special reference to the official ALA Policy on Library Education and Manpower approved in July 1970.The trends are marked by general upgrading of standards and content of library education, resulting in a longer period of formal education with more room for intensive specialization; different kinds of preparation for different levels of responsibility; and a serious exploration of the ways in which paraprofessional or supportive staff can be utilized to release the librarian for more professional responsibilities.The Policy Statement is analyzed to show its support of most of these developments. A key concept is that the demands of the position should be the test of professional quality, and not the diploma held by the applicant. The hope is that the changes suggested will improve the quality of library service and the preparation for it and that this general improvement will be applicable also to such special fields as medical librarianship.     

论高校图书馆制度创新

图书馆事业的发展对高校图书馆制度体系提出了创新的要求，而高校图书馆制度建设中存在着缺乏创新意识、“治人”色彩浓厚、监督机制薄弱以及制定过程中的诸多问题。针对此，本文提出了几点看法：在制度创新中要体现以人为本的思想，做好整体规划，处理好稳定与修改的关系，进行管理创新，提高图书馆员制度意识等。
