The relationship between science laboratory behavior strategies of students and performance in and attitude to laboratory work was investigated in an observational study of 160 laboratory sessions involving 600 class five (eleventh grade) biology students. Zero-order correlations between the behavior strategies and outcome measures reveal a set of low to strong relationships. Transmitting information, listening and nonlesson related behaviors exhibited low correlations with practical skills and the attitude measure. The correlations between manipulating apparatus and observation with practical skills measures were found to be strong. Multiple correlation analysis revealed that the behaviors of students in the laboratories observed accounted for a large percentage of the variance in the scores on manipulative skills and a low percentage on interpretation of data, responsibility, initiative, and work habits. One significant canonical correlation emerged. The loadings on this canonical variate indicate that the practical skills measures, i.e., planning and design, manipulative skills and conduct of experiments, observation and recording of data, and attitude to laboratory work made primary contributions to the canonical relationship. Suggestions as to how students can be encouraged to go beyond “cookbook-like” laboratories and develop a more favorable attitude to laboratory work are made.  相似文献

A 49‐item Inventory on Higher Education was developed that assessed attitudes toward higher education. The Inventory was administered to 310 undergraduate and graduate students in Education. Item endorsement values were presented for comparison and interpretation. A factor analysis of the Inventory identified 14 factors representing higher education attitudinal dimensions. Also admin‐instered was a 55‐item Life Values Inventory, which also yielded 14 factors. Factor scores for the two instruments were subjected to canonical analysis. Results revealed three significant canonical correlations that demonstrated interpretively useful relationships between attitudes toward higher education and basic life values. Discussion of results emphasised both the methodological and substantive significance of the findings and the meaning of these findings for an understanding of the possible influence of the institutional environment.  相似文献

通过对义务教育阶段教师的学历变化进行连续跟踪调查,假设全国各地开展的学科带头人和骨干教师等学术称号能完全代表教师的教学能力,并通过数理统计对小学、初中教师的最初学历、最终学历、师范类学历、非师范类学历与教学能力的相关关系进行研究,结果表明:教师教学能力与初始学历呈负相关,与最终学历有时呈负相关,有时呈正相关;教师最终师范学历和最初师范学历与教学能力呈正相关。但是,教学能力与学历的相关程度并不是很高。有关部门应严格小学、初中教师的入口,并加强在职教师的培训。  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among nine measures of attitude toward quantitative concepts and verbal and quantitative aptitude. Subjects were 353 graduate students enrolled in educational research courses. The attitude measures consisted of nine factor scores drawn from a seman tic differential instrument; the aptitude measures were the Graduate Record Examination Verbal and Quantitative scores. Canonical correlation was used to relate the attitude to the aptitude measures. Two significant canonical variates were obtained. The first showed a moderate relationship between positive attitudes toward quantitative concepts and high quantitative aptitude. The second indicated a slight relationship between negative attitudes toward quantitative concepts and high verbal aptitude.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to do a canonical correlation analysis of demographic information and the Behavior Problem Checklist (BPCL) in order (a) to employ the demographic information in a manner that had not been possible using other methods, and (b) to examine the four factors on the BPCL as a general measure of mental health and mental illness. Subjects were 2,314 children who differed in grade in school, sex, social class, ethnic group status, and type of class in school (i.e., regular or special education). Teachers provided the demographic information and the BPCL ratings. It was found that the four factors on the BPCL were significantly correlated. It was also found that there were four canonical correlations between the demographic information and the BPCL ratings of which three were and one was not significant. The meanings of the four canonical correlations were described for the demographic information and for the four factors on the BPCL.  相似文献

Abstract

A series of multivariate statistical analyses was used to determine what relationships exist among three demographic variables, the Otis-Lennon Mental Ability Test (OLMAT), and the Stanford Achievement Test (SA T) at Grades 2 and 4. Data were obtained from the second grade classes in 1977-78 (V = 91) and 1979-80 (V = 103), and from the 1979-80 fourth grade class (/V = 91) in a rural middle income school district in southeastern New Hampshire. The best predictor of achievement at either Grade 2 or Grade 4 was the IQ variable alone. The correlations among the SAT subtests led to questions concerning that test’s construct validity and its use for differential diagnosis of educational problems of children. Among the Grade 2 variables, the best predictor of achievement at Grade 4 was the SAT; IQ was a negligible factor. Detailed study of the correlations between the OLMAT and SAT did not support the continued use of the group IQ test as part of the district’s comprehensive testing program; the costs expended cannot be justified by the value of the information obtained.  相似文献

Several high-quality instruments are used for investigations on classroom climate. Out of these, none is valid on all three educational pre-tertiary levels (primary, middle school and high school). This situation limits our understanding about classroom climate along different educational levels. We collected responses on a large Romanian student sample (1003 students, 49.3 % boys), and we investigated the internal validity of the Classroom Climate Questionnaire – Primary (CCQ-P, Aldridge & Galos, 2018) using confirmatory factor analyses and measurement invariance analyses. The original model obtained a good fit and partially maintained structure across the three educational levels. Thus, this study opens the door for the investigation of this questionnaire for the three pre-university levels in other national contexts. This could impact how we look at the transition of students between levels and it could offer new input about the practical actions related to this process.  相似文献

The intent of this study was to investigate possible relationships among the constructs of attitudes toward science, interest in science, science curiosity, and self-concept of science ability. Data were collected from 228 sixth-grade students by way of four Likert-type instruments, each of which measured a given attribute. Statistical procedures included univariate and multivariate analysis of variance, product-moment correlations, canonical correlations, multiple regression analysis, and factor analysis. The results indicated that attitudes toward science, interest in science, and science curiosity are highly related. Implications for classroom science teaching and suggestions for future research have also been discussed.  相似文献

文章以需求为起点,采用问卷调研和文献调研的方法,从用户视角和研究视角分析了教育机器人的需求:用户视角方面,主要归纳了学生(包括小学生、中学生和大学生)、教师(包括幼儿教师、小学教师、中学教师)和家长三类用户所需教育机器人扮演的角色;研究视角方面,从STEAM教育、身心障碍治疗、第二语言学习、社会化教育、学科教育等五个方面分析了教育机器人应用需求的特点。在此基础上,文章提出了教育机器人功能设计应关注的要点,以期推动教育机器人的功能完善和创新应用,促使教育机器人更好地服务于教育教学。  相似文献

In this study, we present the development of a vocational interest scale for university students studying psychology. Three dimensions were extracted through principal component analysis, namely, organizational, educational, and clinical psychology. A second study with confirmatory factor analysis replicated the same three factors obtained in the first study. We found significant positive correlations between clinical and educational psychology with the social dimension of Holland’s model. The enterprising dimension appeared to be significantly and positively correlated with the organizational psychology component.
