Radio drama revisited

The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity of using two variables, topic importance and non‐commitment latitude, in operational definitions of enduring involvement. Results indicated that topic importance was an acceptable variable to consider in such a definition, but that the latitude of non‐commitment was constant across topics. Rather than serving to identify levels of enduring involvement, the size of respondents' latitude of non‐commitment appeared to be a personal characteristic of the respondents.     

Concept image revisited

Concept image and concept definition is an important construct in mathematics education. Its use, however, has been limited to cognitive studies. This article revisits concept image in the context of research on undergraduate students’ understanding of the derivative which regards the context of learning as paramount. The literature, mainly on concept image and concept definition, is considered before outlining the research study, the calculus courses and results which inform considerations of concept image. Section 6 addresses three themes: students’ developing concept images of the derivative; the relationship between teaching and students’ developing concept images; students’ developing concept images and their departmental affiliation. The conclusion states that studies of undergraduates’ concept images should not ignore their departmental affiliations. 目标教学新探索

<目标教学新论>一书,是广西教育学院教研部10年来进行目标教学实验研究的理论探讨的结晶.书名之所以定为"新论",我想,一是因为本书概括了广西广大中小学教师在实施目标教学中的许多新鲜经验;另一方面,更为重要的是,本书对当前教学改革面临的新问题进行了探讨.这些新问题,当然也是目标教学面临的新问题.对这些新问题的探讨,我以为是非常有意义的,很可能由此开了目标教学实验的新生面,同时对现实的教学实践也会产生深远的影响.

Sustainable assessment revisited

Sustainable assessment has been proposed as an idea that focused on the contribution of assessment to learning beyond the timescale of a given course. It was identified as an assessment that meets the needs of the present in terms of the demands of formative and summative assessment, but which also prepares students to meet their own future learning needs. This paper reviews the value of such a notion for assessment; how it has been taken up over the past 15 years in higher education and why it might still be needed. It identifies how it has been a successful intervention in assessment discourse. It explores what more is needed to locate assessment as an intervention to focus on learning for the longer term. It shows how sustainable assessment can help bridge the gap between assessment and learning, and link to ideas such as self-regulation, students’ making judgements about their own work and course-wide assessment.

词汇空缺及其翻译方法

文化和历史的相异必然意味着语言的不同,容易产生翻译中词汇空缺现象,并增加理解障碍和翻译困难.翻译中处理词汇空缺的方法可以概括为:直译、音译或加注释相结合保留原文的比喻形象;对原文的文化及比喻进行对等处理;借词;意译时注意原语和译文在内涵和文化方面是否对等;意音兼译,生动再现原语的文化色彩;创造性地灵活处理.     

Academic workload planning revisited

This report extends and updates a 1996 paper ondepartmental planning of workload for academicsin UK universities. Categories of workloadplanning system can be discerned by introducinga set of differentiating dimensions. Usingthis taxonomy the situation in departments in a(pre-1992) UK university is explored via casestudy and survey. The study finds a highdegree of variety and limited reliance onformal workload planning systems. The questionof whether these systems are effective isconsidered and leads on to identifying keycriteria for effective systems. Increasedenvironmental pressures are driving departmentsto confront workload planning in a morerigorous and effective manner.
