On the occasion of Dewey's sesquicentennial anniversary, Kazuyo Nakamura explores Dewey's aesthetics, which holds the plurality of art and culture in high regard. Nakamura develops a theoretical foundation for art education in the present age of globalization based on educational insights drawn from Dewey's aesthetics. The theme of this essay unfolds based on three topics: Dewey's view of the educational value of art in general education, the fundamental viewpoint of art in relation to democracy, and the discussion of the educational aspect of individuality and community with respect to the experience of art. Based on Dewey's aesthetics, this essay presents new perspectives on art education that emphasize the realization of personal values, development of intelligent visual literacy, and enhancement of the quality of communication of art, in the context of globalization.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to design, implement, and evaluate an undergraduate peer‐helping program curriculum having as its primary objective the facilitation of cognitive/affective maturity. The study also sought to test the effectiveness and practicality of using formative research in designing and evaluating the peer‐helping program. The results of the study indicated that the final peer‐helping program, designed through the action/ reflection methodology of formative research, was able to facilitate increases in ego development as measured by the Loevinger Sentence Completion form. In our increasingly instrumentalist culture, debates over the privatization of schooling may be beside the point. Whether we hatch some new plan for chartering or funding schools, or retain the traditional model of government‐run schools, the ongoing instrumentalization of education threatens the very possibility of public education. Indeed, in the culture of performativity, not only the public school but public life itself is hollowed out and debased. Qualities are recast as quantities, judgments replaced by rubrics, teaching and learning turned into exchange values. Schools should be central to public life: key locations for the regeneration of values, the cultivation of judgment, and the creation of the conditions for positive freedom. In this article Chris Higgins, drawing on Hannah Arendt and Alasdair MacIntyre, goes beyond typical treatments of the schools as equalizer of individual opportunity to explore three aspects of educational publicity: the school as an object of communal concern, schooling as preparation for public life, and the classroom as public space.  相似文献

Teacher education is facing major new challenges. In this context the concept of partnership between LEAs, schools and the training institutions has assumed key importance. This paper outlines an in‐novatory scheme of professional partnership with a BEd primary degree programme. The Westminster Primary Link Schools Scheme is developmental, responsive to the changing nature of education, built upon existing good practice in initial and in‐service education and self‐evaluatory. The evaluation of the first year of the scheme is described. Guiding principles, relevant to the development of partnership schemes, are discussed and issues relevant to evaluations of this type are explored  相似文献

The article gives an overview of higher education in Europe and North America from the student revolts of 1968 to the present, stressing its massification and its diversification. Economic insecurity, the author suggests, has made students forgo the radicalism of the late 1960's; however, the poor conditions in which students must study should serve as a warning to the public authorities. The growing complexity of the educational process, including the links between education and future employment and employability, are such that the services of student advisors and counsellors are needed at all levels. Their services will become as important as those provided by the teachers themselves.

The role that governments play in higher education systems in the western world is being generally criticized. Most studies on desirable future models show that most of the experts and individuals involved favour a reduction in government influence. At the same time, however, governments are ‐ in publicly‐funded higher education systems ‐ accountable to the public for the funds allocated to the institutions, and are held responsible for a number of (political) aims and goals associated with higher education policy. This article considers which type of relationship between governments and higher education systems might be considered to be the most prominent for the future. It combines critical signals on the present methods, on the one hand, and the generally accepted responsibilities of governments, on the other, in a multi‐criteria analysis. Contrary to the general outcome of studies on governance, the participants in the study have opted for a relatively orthodox scenario in which governments remain influential actors with regard to higher education policies.  相似文献

This article seeks to understand religious education as a process of communal endeavor that prioritizes and considers the learning experience intrinsically connected to its social and cultural contexts. Two authors will be of help to develop this pursuit: Lev Vygotsky, whose work emphasizes learning as constructed through interactions and in collaboration with members of a community, and Victor Turner who identifies the potential for creativity and transformation within the concepts of liminality and communitas. The article concludes by suggesting that when a community acknowledges the multiple zones of proximal development—which creates opportunities of mutual support and democratic participation—communitas surfaces as a sign of liminal vitality, openness, and solidarity.  相似文献

本文基于国家统计局“城调队”1991年、1995年、2000年和2004年中国城镇住户调查数据,采用计量回归方法,对我国城镇居民个人教育投资风险进行了实证研究。研究结果表明:第一,增加受教育的时间其实是减少了一个人获取其教育投资收益的风险;第二,近些年来教育对减少教育投资风险的能力正在逐年增强;第三,女性的教育投资风险高于男性;第四,东部地区的教育投资风险高于其他地区。  相似文献
