Laser Engineered Net Shaping Technology

Laser engineered net shaping (LENS) technology is a new type of rapid prototyping technology, which combines the conventional rapid prototyping technology with the laser cladding technology, and studies the rapid manufacture technology of metal components and moulds with comparatively complex shape or complex component. The diagnosis of pupils’ misconceptions and the identification of reasons for such misconceptions must be considered the prerequisite for helping the pupils to develop correct scientific conceptions. In the present study, an attempt was made to investigate student teachers’ competency to diagnose pupils’ answers for possible misconceptions. It was found that student teachers are, by and large, not capable of making appropriate diagnoses of misconceptions. In view of this, it is suggested that in science teacher‐training programmes specific training activities be included which are designed to develop the desired diagnostic competence.

What Drives Successful Technology Planning?

ABSTRACT

Providing computers and in‐servicing staff is not enough to get teachers and students using technology for teaching and learning. Schools of teacher education can prepare teachers better by helping college and university education faculty model technology use throughout the teacher credentialing curriculum. Another approach is to help teachers construct a model for identifying and developing factors that will support their own technology initiatives. The literature on technology integration reveals eight success factors for schools attempting to help teachers adopt technology in their classrooms. This article examines those success factors and looks at strategies for implementing them.

MEMS Test System Based on Virtual Instrument Technology

On account of the multiformity of MEMS devices, it is necessary to integrate with some optical measurement techniques for meeting static and dynamic unit test requirements. In this paper, an automated MEMS test system is built of some commercially available components and instruments based on virtual instrument technology. The system is integrated with stroboscopic imaging, computer micro-vision, microscopic Mirau phase shifting interferometry, and laser Doppler vibrometer, and is used for the measurement of full-view in-plane and out-of-plane geometric parameters and periodical motions and single spot out-of-plane transient motion. The system configuration and measurement methods are analyzed, and some applications of the measurement of in-plane and out-of-plane dimensions and motions were described. The measurement accuracy of in-plane dimensions and out-of-plane dimensional is better than 0.2 μm and 5 nm respectively. The resolution of measuring in-plane and out-of-plane motions is better than 15 nm and 2 nm respectively.     

People and Technology Today： Some Educational Implications

The present article approaches some of the educational implications borne by humanity with technological progress We begin by pointing out significant data that classify what is considered relevant. Then, confronting the future is discussed by analyzing the attitudes necessary to promote the goals. Confronted with these challenges, three possible focuses are suggested in accordance to the novel realities issued from science and technology： The first is the revitalization of humanism; The second is, the society of knowledge calls for both ＂radicalism and responsibility＂, which is also a response to our own decisions, without avoiding their consequences nor discharging them in others; The third is, understanding the true and full significance of solidarity. Finally, some approaches and educational suggestions are highlighted allowing parents, professors and students the greatest opportunity for profiting from the limitless resources that science and technology provide us for personal growth.     

How Can Technology Enhance Children's Natural Curiosity?

Summary

We want children to WANT to learn. Since they have a natural curiosity about so many things in their world, it is only right to base our teaching strategies around this curiosity. If we disguise our teaching objectives as child-centered activities, our students will soon realize that learning is fun and not something to dread. People often have a natural bond with animals, especially with cats and dogs. We have used technology to support our students' inquiry as they observed a puppy and kitten throughout several months. By linking technology with our county objectives, the Maryland School Performance Assessment Program science outcomes (MSPAP) and the National Science Education Standards we have provided the students with an exciting, real-world experience.     

Thinking Over of the Orientation for Educational Technology

This paper tries to address the reference point for orientation of Educational Technology and starts to draw an orientation for the synthesis and applies subject-Educational Technology, which belongs to the education and remains the features of Technological layer. We take a further look and find that this subject is existing at the cross part of education and technology by which we can draw the boundary of the subject as Educational Technology. Then we discuss the significance of how and why we have to correct the orientation for Educational Technology, and by doing that we can do good things to construct the concept of Educational Technology and cultivate more qualified technological personnel in this area so that we can get more benefits from the practice of Educational Technology.
